TerrorVision is turning 40, and we’re celebrating with director Ted Nicolaou, the filmmaker behind one of the strangest and most memorable cult horror movies of the 1980s.
In this wide-ranging interview, Nicolaou looks back at the making of TerrorVision, from the film’s bizarre concept and creature effects to its distinctive 1980s personality and the experience of making a movie that has developed such a lasting cult following.
Nicolaou also talks about his work on the Subspecies franchise, including the making of the original film and his experiences shooting in a post-revolution Romania, as well as his long history with Full Moon and Charlie Band. He shares stories from his years working in the world of low-budget genre filmmaking and reflects on the unique approach that made Full Moon such an important part of 1980s and ’90s horror.
