(With lots of crazy stories and laughs.) Bobby: Episode 90 everyone… and we get to celebrate it with the amazing and powerful Rebels. “WOOOO REBELS IN THE HOUSE BABY!” Ryan: Gary & Carolyn Norris know what it’s like to face challenges as entrepreneurs. They have experienced both success and failure more than once, including a business partnership going south, laying off employees, closing the doors of a once successful endeavor, losing three homes to foreclosure and finding themselves almost a quarter million dollars in debt, while refusing to declare bankruptcy. As a result of their financial reset, their marriage hanging by a thread and their precious daughter trying to “check out” of life, they knew they had to “REBEL UP” and create something different, and that’s just what they did! Before we continue, we want to thank those behind the show. We have Cedric at the controls, Dontrell on social media and we want to give a shout out to our producer Ileana. (Bobby, enthusiastic as always) Bobby: “ILEANA ROCKS IT!” You guys are going to see a ton of Ileana all the time. She is our eyes and ears on all of our social media platforms. SHE’S DOING IT ALL, SHE’S DOING EVERYTHING! (Everyone laughs) Ryan: That’s our Biz4GoodShow Team. It started out with two crazy guys and now it’s growing. Bobby: Welcome to the Biz4GoodShow where two fun adventurous entrepreneurs share their experiences of the real secret to success. The business of doing all things with a be good do good mindset. There is so much bad noise in the world, lets fight against the noise and flood the world with the good so come on and go for the ride with us. Follow us on: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play Music, Digital Podcast, TuneIn, and all other podcast outlets. Spread the word #Begooddogood #Goodagainstthenoise and #Biz4goodshow. FYI, tell Alexa to play the Biz4GoodShow and she will do it. I have done it and my kids are really tired of it. Ryan: I don’t know if you are aware of this, but since it’s episode 90 the reboot of Murphy Brown from the 90s returns to television tonight September 27, on CBS. We would like to know your favorite shows from the 90s. Gary: Seinfeld, I just love it. Carolyn: It’s just a show about nothing it can go on forever…..(Laughs). To be honest, I am not that big of a TV person. I like to do stuff. Ryan: Oooo a smack down. Bobby: TV for losers…. Carolyn: (Laughs hysterically) Thats not what I meant. I do watch the Tonight Show every now and then. Bobby: I lived on TV. I would have to say ALF… it’s a love hate relationship. But I have to say New Heart was my favorite by far. Ryan: I enjoyed Saved by the Bell…. (Bobby looks concerned) Ryan: Just kidding. I have the song memorized. Bobby: You had me scared there Ryan. (Everyone laughs) Bobby: Okay back to the show. We are going to start out by having Carolyn and Gary tell us a little bit more about themselves. (Carolyn jumps the gun) Carolyn: I have to unfriend my husband from Facebook from time to time. But my saving grace is that now he joined this private group called Nasty Politics. Gary gets all of his opinions out on Nasty Politics and now I don’t have to unfriend him anymore. It’s Really good! Bobby & Ryan: Oooo you are one of those dudes. Gary: I vent in a secret Facebook group, but on Facebook in public I am an awesome nice guy. Carolyn: So when you talk about Biz4Good and you have a problem you just go and join a secret Facebook group. Bobby: Yes.. that’s what Facebook is for. You don’t give it to everybody. You go and find a cool group where everybody has the same “I hate this.” Ryan: I hate Peaches! Bobby: Well you know there is a “I hate cilantro” group. Who hates cilantro? They literally want to ban cilantro. Ryan: I am not that bad. I’ll let the peach-eaters eat. Carolyn: I eat peaches. Its good we can sit by each other and get along. (Getting back on track…) Overview: Story Time Gary attended the Consumer Electronic Show in the early 2000s, where all the latest and greatest technology was being revealed. Remember, this is also the time of disposable cameras. Digital cameras and selfies were non-existent. Gary was amongst 16 million people. A handful of people with cameras and video recorders began to swarm him, trampling him to the ground. Gary gets up, looks straight ahead, standing about 5 feet away from him was Bill Gates. Gary was in shock and decided to take out his disposable camera to document this “once in a lifetime moment.” He reaches for the camera, holds it up to his chest, clicks the button, and the flash beams across everyone. The crowd turns to look at Gary. He puts his camera down and begins to slowly walk a way…. embarrassed. Carolyn broke her arm before heading to Hawaii for vacation. The injury was not sever, so it was securely wrapped in a soft brace. Carolyn was determined her injury would not get in the way of her adventures. So as she was prepared to propel down an 80 foot waterfall, an employee supervising the guests said “I gotta ask, but what’s up with your arm?” Carolyn sitting there thinking… Well I don’t lie, but I want to go down thus waterfall. She responds with, “Well, hey. I just have this don’t ask don’t tell policy about my arm.” And the guy says “You know we have some of those ourselves. Go ahead.” Carolyn jumps off and begins to ponder his response “WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!” Safe to say, she is alive. Garry and Carolyn have been married for 30 years and it has been such an accomplishment for them. They have been through a lot and they still love each other. I mean… they drove to the studio together in the same car. That says something, right? Ryan: What does Biz4good mean to you or doing good in business? Carolyn: Business for good is the only way to do good in business and the only way to have purpose in doing business. If you are not caring about other people then what the heck are you in business for? You are a problem solver, a solution maker, you are the person that pulls everything together. Bobby: Unfortunately, we originally thought that was a no brainer but there are a lot of businesses in the world that do not get it. If you focus on the good you do your company will do better. I didn’t realize how much it’s not a no-brainer. That is why we have awesome powerful people like you guys on the show, that get it. Gary: I noticed when we were invited to be on your show. We were checking you guys out and I noticed your hashtag (#) and I thought, “These guys are feakin awesome!” They # like I do. I always #Begooddogood, I mean #Dogoodbegood. We are like minded because we really believe that Biz4good means doing good and being good. Because if you are good, if you do good, good will come back to you, it is a law of the universe. It may not come back to you in ways you think it, or understand it, but it will come back to you. And if you live a good life you will be making an impact in the world for good. And if you can take that to business, that is the upper level, just being a good person in life and in business. Bobby: Drop the mic… that was awesome. (Phone rings…) Come on Ryan. Bobby: What does the future look like for you guys? What are you creating right now? Carolyn: For this year, we want to bring onboard a 100 people to help them go for financial freedom. Specifically, in this month we are looking for 10 people. We have a whole system in how we get you from A to B on the path to financial freedom. Gary: To go along with what my lovely bride, Carolyn was saying. We do have a mission and a great desire to help a lot of people. Our mission is to help people do good and be good. That is why we were so excited to join you guys on your show. We spread the goodness that we have by helping people plug-in to whatever it is they are doing to teach them a better way to do it. This will help better serve others more. Including impacting and empowering themselves if they do it. We do a lot of our do good and be good through real-estate, investing, training, and mentoring. That is our background. But we also do it in business entrepreneurship. We help people, whatever that may be we take it to a level that serves them best. We have this belief.. we were on a cruise ship and I went off on my own pondering life and I see the workers being busy bodies, cleaning, and making sure everything is ready for the guests and I thought to myself, “I own this ship, I own them.” I paid $750 for four days, to own this ship. Carolyn and I together paid $1,500 for those to come to our every need, service being 24/7. I noticed the power in that, and as a business owner and entrepreneur you do not need to start a business that is everything. A rebel, as we call it. A rebel entrepreneur. You can plug-in the materials that are already working and the systems that are in place. All for a fraction of the cost. People don’t know how easy they have it when starting a business. There are so many procedures and steps already implemented for you. All you have to do is tap in and spread the word on your new founding business. Bobby: If you want to start a business, dabble. Get your feet wet and do something on the side. Don’t go crazy and think you are going to create Facebook tomorrow. Learn about business by connecting with something that is doing all the fulfillment and all the other stuff. That is an awesome point. IT STILL TAKES WORK and you do have to work your butt off to create something. I tell people all the time the secret to success is one word, two letters. Do! If you don’t do something you will never get anywhere. Carolyn: And usually people don’t take action because of fear and everything you want is on the other side of fear. Bobby: This leads to our final question. What kind of action item can you give our audience members? Carolyn: One thing that I absolutely love for myself right now is enjoying getting up determined, going to bed satisfied, and looking in the mirror everyday and saying “Impress me.” Ryan: That gave me the chills. Bobby: I love that affirmation. Look at yourself in the mirror and “Impress me.” Gary: You need to be committed if you are going to be an entrepreneur and do good and be good in business. If you want breakfast, you are going to have ham and eggs and think about who contributed to your breakfast. A chicken contributed. It laid an egg, it was committed. It gave its life for your breakfast and how do you relate yourself, your business, the good that you do in your community, or the ways that you raise your family, and the way you act amongst the people around you?. Are you committed to helping people or are you just contributing? There is a difference and I am not saying one is not good. I am just saying that one is a whole lot better, to be committed to a cause. Bobby: You have to take action. That was a great way to end the show. PEOPLE! Take action and don’t just get ready to go. DO IT! JUST DO IT!!! Thank you guys for being on the show, it was a blast. You guys are amazing. Carolyn: Thank you. We had so much fun. Episode Notes: Overcoming The Impossible!

Welcome to the Biz4GoodShow where two fun adventurous entrepreneurs share their experiences of the real secret to success. The business of doing all things with a be good do good mindset. There is so much bad noise in the world, lets fight against the noise and flood the world with the good so come on and go for the ride with us.

Today we welcome Scotty Smiley. A Former Military Officer who faced a suicide car bomber while serving time in Iraq. His injuries left him blind, but that did not stop him from overcoming his injuries and life long goals. Scotty became an avid adventurer, author, public speaker, and a world investment banker. Here to share his journey through adversity and give us some insight into his book Hope Unseen.

Bobby: We also want to welcome Guest Riikka Alakoski Jacobsen who was married to Captain William W. Jacobsen Jr. (Bill) He was stationed in Iraq with Scotty Smiley and was killed in the Mosul Massacre by a suicide bomber.

Riikka: “He had a great love for his soldiers,” comments Riikka. “He was a great leader, the type of leader who didn’t just sit there and tell you what to do but was actually out there in the front with his guys.”- Riikka/BYU Magazine

Let’s get to know Scotty a bit more.. He grew up with a work ethic of having fun, doing good, and working hard which enabled him to excel and build relationships. “Understanding what doing good for others meant and not only doing good for myself, but for the community and the world.”

Scotty joined the Military because he wanted to attend one of the best schools in the world and he knew the Military Academy had one of the best leadership training environments that would not only educate, but place their students into leadership situations of every part of every day. “From Freshman to senior you were always in charge of someone. You had peers, superiors, and subordinates. I knew that was the the school for me.”

After the Military and the hardships that led to Scotty’s injuries he decided to write a book, Hope Unseen. Scotty writes about his adventures as he struggles to push through the hardships that many don’t know how to overcome… Scotty had a wonderful life ahead of him, a beautiful wife, a job in the Army, and nothing was going to stop him from accomplishing his goals. Until… he was faced by a suicide bomber in Iraq. That day would forever change his life, for better or for worse.

He was on top of the world. Physically fit, mentally strong, spiritually tough, protecting, and defending our Constitution. He had lost friends and loved ones overseas. “You start to wonder why we are doing this and why we are fighting. There is so much destruction in the world, but you must look ahead and create a better life for others.”

But when life is turned upside-down, it’s your personal life being effected. “One minute I have eyesight and the next, it’s stripped away from me. I will never get to see my beautiful wife’s face, my kids, the sunset, the leaves changing in fall, and it was the absolute depths of despair. Depression, anxiety, and Why did I want to live?…”

Bobby: What Does the Biz4GoodShow mean to you Scotty?

Scotty: It’s making peoples lives better, and helping them build a better life. As I share my story through Hope Unseen, a business that my wife and I started almost 8 years ago, its about sharing our stories with others and teaching the struggles, trials, and disappointments that go with adversities. It is the choices we make, to choose freedom, to choose life, and joy is not just a single time, but an everyday opportunity. I am able to share my story and my life with others and to bring joy and to bring happiness and peace and in that same way with banking, whether be financial freedom or investing people you know, individuals, corporations, and states. Money is giving them the freedom so that they can use that money to bless others. That is what the Biz4GoodShow means to me. Helping others just as I and others would loved to be helped. #BeGoodDoGood

Bobby knew Captain William Jacobsen before deploying to Iraq. Jacobsen was a pal to Bobby and advised him on his first date with his now, wife. Bobby was extremely nervous and Jacobsen had a way of calming Bobby down, reminding him that everything would work out. Jacobsen’s advice paid off in the end. Bobby is happily married to Monique Christensen James.

    (Tears flood the room)

Riikka: “I have known Scotty since he was a young lieutenant and we Army families are all one big family. Tiffany (Scotty’s wife) was a good friend of mine and when the guys deployed we would get together along with a few other Army wives and we would sit, talk, eat and support each other. After Bill was killed in Iraq in December of 2004, Scotty was soon in an accident a few months later and I remember Tiffany and I were talking and I came to visit you Scotty in Walter Reed. That was probably the most powerful moment of my life. I went into the room and that was probably one of the very low moments, it was devastating. I remember Scotty held my hand for 45 minutes and apologized to me because of what had happened. This just talks about his character and who he is. Tiffany was standing right there next him. It was truly a powerful moment. Following the proceeding years, during this whole process Scotty had to learn all the basic things that we take for granted and he overcame all of them with Tiffany by his side and always has been. Now, you have this beautiful family and to me you are still the same young lieutenant, always smiling. I remember you from the barracks where my kids use to run up and down the stairs. Life is good. We go through awful things, but life is good.

Scotty, you are a prime and beautiful example of someone that keeps going and I love that about you and Tiffany. Thank you for everything you have shown and accomplished.

Scotty’s Action Item to Audience: Wake up with a smile no matter what. It’s those cheesy grins that lighten the mood and enable you to not think about obstacles or difficulties ahead, instead it puts a positive spirit in your heart and influences you to think, “What can I do to help others today?” Versus the obstacles and trials that may be in front of you. Just smile and live life fully and completely. #GoodAgainstTheNoise

Bobby & Ryan: Thank you so much for being on the show and thank you for your service.

    Signing off: Everybody! #BeGoodDoGood, #BeGoodDoGood, #BeGoodDoGood…..

    #Biz4GoodShow

E87 Scale It with Will Deane Sep 14, 2018
    Show notes

    Episode 87: Scale it!

    #Biz4GoodShow

    Welcome to the Biz4GoodShow

I am your host Bobby Glen James along with the… Ryan Pilkington

Bobby: Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome today’s amazing guest. Presenting Will Deane ( Not the county star…) But, Will Deane the successful entrepreneur.

Ryan! Let’s get this show on the road.

    Will: I am Ready!!!

Ryan: Thanks for joining the Biz4GoodShow. We are marching to the 90s here with episode 87.

Bobby: WOW! You beat me to the punch Ryan.

Ryan: (Laughs and ignores Bobby) Yeah… Episode 87 Sale It, with Will Deane.

Bobby: Welcome to the Biz 4 Good Show where two fun adventurous entrepreneurs are sharing their experiences of the real secret to success. The business of doing all things with a be good do good mindset. There is so much bad noise in the world, lets fight against the noise and flood the world with the good so come on and go for the ride with us.

Find us on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, iTunes, Spotify, Linkedin and all other podcast outlets.

    (Background noise)

OH! Sounds like we are in for some fun sound effects today. The construction workers are going to town on the rooftop. We are on the third floor of the Miller Corporate Partnership Building. Shout out to them!

    Ryan: Bring the Thunder!

    (All Laugh)

Bobby: Hey Ryan. Tell us about Will.

Ryan: Will Deane is a CEO of Unstoppable.co and a lifelong entrepreneur with several successful startups under his belt. Starting from the early age of 15 he has been building companies. He is a lover of all things marketing consumer trends branding and team building.

Bobby: Let’s introduce Will, but first lets throw a Google Challenge on him.

    (Will looks unprepared)

This is how the Google challenge works. Will, we are going to ask Google a question.

Ryan: Has he accepted the challenge?

    (All Laugh)

Bobby: Oh yeah… Will have you accepted the challenge? Will you go against Google?

(Will hesitant to answer, then answers with confidence)

Will: I will go against Google.

    Bobby: Let’s do this!

Will: What are my options here?

Bobby: Here is how it’s going to work and you will see your options are actually pretty good. We ask Google a question through the web browser and then answers begin to populate. We go to the third page on the web because everyone goes straight for the first and second page.

We are going to grab the answer of the question from the third page and we are going to read what it says. The thing that is not an Ad. You are going to give insight to that and give us the answer or say it’s bullcrap and give us a better answer.

Will: I love it! Let’s do it.

Bobby: How do you scale it?

(Ryan types the question and searches for the answer.)

    Bobby: Drum roll please…

Here we go ladies and gentlemen. Page three. The Best way to scale and deliver your startup… oh that’s lame. Let’s go to the next one. How to find the tools to scale your startup?

    (Scrolling down)

    Bobby: You’re the driver Ryan.

Ryan: I am the driver? What if I am drunk?

Bobby: Well you’re the drunk driver. Driving the internet drunk is a bad idea.

    (All laugh)

Bobby: So starting a company is really hard, it says. Psh.. that’s not true. Starting a company is easy. Making it work is the hard part.

Sure you may read that some random medium post like this one, but it is near impossible to truly empathize with the difficulties of a founding company until you are standing in the trenches of the startup battlefield sweating out the pain. Something like, 92% of new companies die within three years of the 8% remaining. Only a handful end up making a major impact in the world, as much as it is a game of skill and purpose ask any rare successful founder in the industry and they will tell you that luck is certainly a very influential factor. While you cannot directly control lucky, the least you can do is set yourself up for success by striking the chips in your favor. There are lots of ways to do this. Some more proven than others so what they have here are: Work with the best people, Raise the right money at the right time, Find good mentors, and Use the right tools.

That’s what we got from Google. Mr. Dean. What are your thoughts on the matter?

    That was quite the answer

Will: I think luck is BS. I think you make your own luck, to put that out there.

Bobby: I am with you 100% my friend.

Will: Yeah, I think grit is a big part of success. A lot of people quit way too early and I think Google’s answer might be using the word luck wrong. Um… the rest of it is great advice. Not very actionable, but I would agree getting a great mentor or somebody to emulate is a really good idea when you’re starting a business. I think that a lot of people go into business coming up with their own plans and own ideas when millions of entrepreneurs have either been successful or failed doing the exact same thing before so you might as well find somebody who you want to emulate and try to map their plan or map their process. I think the other stuff is good as well.

Bobby: Is there anything you would personally add to it?

Will: Hiring a good team is obviously the most important. Having a mentor is very good. READ! I think that goes along with finding a good mentor. I think that a lot of entrepreneurs like I said before, just go at it thinking that they’ve got this. Everytime I open another book about someone’s journey or whatever. I learn something that I don’t have to learn the hard way. Reading is very very important as it’s very overlooked, but it’s very important to achieve what you want as an entrepreneur.

Bobby: That was super powerful. I was reading in an article the other day and it was talking about Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and I think it was Elon Musk and how much of ferocious readers they were. I was an interesting article because they said Bill Gates takes like two-week called “reading vacations” where for two weeks he just sits and reads. I have always been a proponent of reading and how it can guide you to becoming a great leader and entrepreneur, so read.

Thank you for hitting that right on the head Will. When I hear people say I don’t have time to read it’s like you don’t have time not to learn stuff because you will make a crapload more mistakes.

Will: It’s insane the amount of stuff you can actually bypass by reading a story or a journey or you know an actionable advice from somebody. It’s successful and absolutely crazy.

Bobby: I believe it’s one of the top 10 secrets to being successful. Don’t you think? Learning is such a big part of business.

We think, all we have to do is get out there and do it and that’s great, but eventually it’s not going to be good enough. You have to learn to be successful.

    Will: I totally agree.

    Bobby: Thanks Will.

Will: Did I pass the challenge?

Bobby: What do you think Ryan? Did he beat Google?

    Ryan: He’s a winner!

    Bobby/Ryan: Ding Ding DIng Ding…

Bobby: Will has officially beat Google in the Google challenge so Google you have lost once again. Alright. Will, let’s get to know you a little bit more and what led you to this crazy entrepreneur world of a business owner. We all know that every entrepreneur has their own weird mind. We all have this strange mind that just doesn’t fit the mold of having a job and going to work 9:00am to 5:00pm.

So when did you realize you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Will: That’s a great question. Well… I had my entrepreneurial experiments when I was in high school. I didn’t really know I was an entrepreneurial at the time. I just kind of wanted to make money or at least be kind of the leader of my own domain. I’ll give you a quick embarrassing story.

    Bobby: Perfect! We love those.

Will: Back in high school I remember my family and I went on a cruise and I think you had to be 18 to be on a cruise. I was not 18, but I wanted to be able to buy beer or buy something and so I didn’t know how to make this possible. Actually it was to play, it was to gamble at the casino that’s really what I wanted to do and I wasn’t of age. I was like…I’m gonna make myself a fake ID. I didn’t know what that was back then and so you know being teksavvy I made a fake ID. Fast forward a couple months from the cruise, everybody wanted one.

I basically manufactured a business that was highly lucrative in my early teens. I then took that and put into the stock market and it was actually my seed money for my first company. But you know… I’ve had some scared-straight learning experiences from that. My parents actually hired a lawyer pretending to be onto this and scared me straight.

I was like okay.. I am done. I am done.

Bobby: Your life of crime was over.

Ryan: You just wanted to gamble.

Bobby: Yeah, but you know that’s the entrepreneur mindset. You see the opportunities wherever they are and we do like it to be legit, but still you realized the opportunities at a young age.

Will: There is a problem here that compels me to solve. Once I solved it, I realized that a lot of other people were having the same problem and so I went about trying to solve that problem and the fine line between legal or illegal.

Bobby: That’s awesome, that’s perfect. With that let’s get to our question of the day that we ask everyone who is on the show.

Ryan: Will. I know that you stated before you have a lot to talk about on the subject here so what does Biz4Good mean to you?

Will: That is definitely a loaded question because I’ve got a lot to talk about but Biz4Good is basically figuring out a way to work with companies and help them talk to their customers

Ep85 The Millennial Business Revolution with IVYE Wear and Dax Francis Aug 17, 2018
    Show notes

It started in 2003, at the young age of 12, when Dax was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome (a disorder that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine), and then later Focal Segmental Glomeruloscerosis (FSGS), a rare disease that attacks the kidney’s filtering units (glomerul) causing serious scarring. Dax’s FSGS eventually progressed to end-stage renal failure. So, at age 18, Dax began dialysis. A college student, traveling 2 hours each way for dialysis treatment, it became apparent that Dax had to put his studies on the back burner. These late teen and early adult years for Dax were dominated by grueling dialysis treatment. “My first reaction to dialysis was shock,” he recalls, “even though I had been a chronic kidney disease patient for 6 years at the time I started dialysis—everything was new, and everything was scary.” The first signs that Dax was a warrior were evident as he fought through his treatment. Dax describes the first couple months of living on dialysis as, “Absolute torture. Every morning seemed worse than the one before, and the nausea was one of the hardest things to get used to. I struggled to eat enough to sustain my body. It is very hard to force yourself to eat when the thought of food only makes you sicker to your stomach. It is a vicious cycle that is very hard to cope with at first.”

In addition to the many physical side effects of dialysis that Dax adjusted to, he also struggled with the emotional toll it took on him, “For the longest time, I shut everyone out and pushed everyone away. I created a vacuum of depression and sadness. Dialysis changed me in a way that I felt no one understood. I looked the same, better, in fact, due to the weight loss, but inside I was dying.” But once again, Dax took his challenges head on and not only continues to survive, but to grow as a person while he is doing it. “I used to hide the fact that I was on dialysis, and now I proclaim it proudly, because it is something that not everyone can do. As chronically ill patients, we should always take pride in what we go through every day. It takes strength, fortitude, and a willingness to fight against the adversity thrown at you.”

Finally, in 2012 Dax received a kidney transplant and what would appear to be a new lease on life—no more dialysis and re-enrollment in college. But things soon took a turn for the worse. Less than a month after Dax’s transplant, the FSGS recurred in the new kidney. This news was crushing to Dax, as he recalls “the disappointment, depression and sadness that came from learning that my first transplanted kidney was showing signs of FSGS. It was almost too much for me to take.” Never giving up and determined to take advantage of the gift he was given, Dax stayed enrolled in school despite failing health and dialysis three days a week. He attained his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

Once again, dialysis became a prominent part of Dax’s life. Admitting that it is very hard to be a relatively young patient in treatment, Dax decided he was going to resist a path of isolation and negativity. “I struggle to pass the time still today. It is a constant battle to keep my mind engaged in something positive, and not dwell on where I am.” In fact, Dax began filming some short 5 minute videos during his dialysis treatments. The videos not only take up a good amount of time, but are something Dax finds resonates with many other patients. His inspirational and motivational videos have become an effective way to reach out to fellow patients and got him thinking, “Let’s do something bigger!” Pursuing an idea that came to Dax when he first began treatment, Dax unselfishly set his sights on founding a clothing company, Ivye Wear, LLC. Dax and his company champion for the rights of the sick, creating comfortable, accessible clothing for spoonies (individuals living with a chronic disease). These garments are designed to inspire strength, preserve dignity, and grow hope for those with chronic illness. Dax also considers his business a a leader in the Millennial Business Revolution in which compassion, empathy, and kindness in the community’s businesses serve take precedent over the bottom line. We want to bring the world together with the strength and wisdom of those who are everyday superheroes, fighting just to get through the day, often in silence. Acting as a warrior again, Dax aims “to be the change I want to see…to bring hope to anyone who is struggling.” Well on his way to his goal of being “an advocate for organ donation, rare disease research and bringing awareness to vital causes related to chronic kidney disease at the highest level,” Dax, first and foremost, is admirably committed to helping others.

Turning his hardships into good deeds every day, Dax, with the support of his girlfriend Missy Allen, continues to find the strength to live while bringing hope to others, “I draw strength from everything I go through – I look at everything like a battle. I’m facing a future of battles and even though there will be bad days, weeks or months, they won’t last forever. The sun will come out again.” Dax is not sure if he wants to receive another transplant because of the odds of its success (the chance of FSGS returning is higher than with the first transplant) and the fact that it could take a healthy organ away from someone else. So, for now, as we would expect from Dax, he continues to show resilience and lift up others by doing great things.

Ep84 Plant forward in a crazy world with Kimmi Wernli w/ Crazy Richards Peanut
    Butter company

Kimmi Wernli is the first female owner of one of the oldest natural food companies in America. When Kimmi assumed the reigns as the second generation owner of her family’s historic peanut butter business, she identified ways to take the Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter Company into the 21st century by breaking into new markets, creating a clear brand and messaging and tapping into a savvy young audience via social media.

Her family owned both the Krema Products Co. and Crazy Richard’s brands, and Wernli decided to merge Krema into the Crazy Richard’s brand. She worked tirelessly with her sales team, national grocery store distributors and the marketing team to ensure a smooth transition.

Kimmi established the “Healthy Kids Happy Future” project as a way to follow her passion for supporting families through ongoing charity work and contributions. In 2017, the Healthy Kids Happy Future project donated over 350,000 servings of peanut butter to children and families in need with a goal to reach 1 million by 2020.

Kimmi is an active member of NAWBO National, sits on the Board of Directors for the American Peanut Council and is a founding board member for the Columbus Kids Do Good foundation. The mother of four young children, former collegiate lacrosse player and lover of natural foods and all things peanut butter, last year Kimmi was awarded the Progressive Women Award by Smart Business Magazine. Additionally in 2017, Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter Co received a Smart 50 Award, became an official WBENC certified company and obtained the highly esteemed Benefit Corporation Certification (B-Corp).
