The two shortest parables Jesus shares with his disciples pack a great deal of truth. On the surface, Christ shows us how the kingdom of heaven is priceless. Both parables reflect that. So much confusion exists over what it means to be born again. A cultural understanding has taken root that most of us find unfavorable. But where does this term "born again" come from? Dr. Sams takes us through Christ's initial encounter with Nicodemus, where the term is first used. The real meaning is a challenge to all our assumptions, all our basic understandings of what it means to be a part of the Kingdom of heaven. But with the challenge comes a promise of new life. Exploring the Kingdom Sep 28, 2014

Show notes

In an intense passage of scripture, we explore a parable of hypocirsy - where a slave is forgiven a large debt, yet refuses to forgive a small debt he is owed by another. Dr. Sams show us how we place ourselves in a debtor's prison of our own making by forcing others to "pay their debt" in an infinite variety of ways. But Christ invites us to forgive others their debt, as He has forgiven us. And this is but one small aspect of the kingdom of God.

Describing the Kingdom, Part 1 - Video Sep 14, 2014

Show notes

Dr. Sams, in his opening sermon of the new "Thrive" series, differentiates between firsthand accounts and secondhand accounts of the kingdom of God. Description is just an entry point. Christ goes further by demonstrating the kingdom with signs and miracles. Choose Life - Audio Sep 07, 2014

Show notes

On the surface, the Scripture for today's message seems simple. Choose Life. But by misunderstanding "life", we are tricked into choosing death. We chase after things we think will give us life. They do not. We place faith in them, and they fail us. To contrast this, Dr. Sams shows us how this Scripture points to Christ: The Way, The Truth, and The Life. God is our everlasting life. Jesus Christ's death and resurrection grants us access to no less, if we choose to take it.
