Aaron Judge out, Nick Kurtz makes MLB history & Hall of Fame recap Jul 28, 2025
    Show notes

The Yankees' tumultuous season got a bit more challenging this weekend as they lost their star to injury. The best player in baseball, Aaron Judge, is out for the foreseeable future with a flexor strain in his right elbow. He did not tear his UCL, but the fear of preventing that may cause the Yankees to proceed with caution when figuring out a timetable for his return. Coming off of a series loss to the Phillies, how will the Yankees adjust going forward, and will we see Judge again this year? Jake and Jordan discuss all of the possibilities and share their thoughts about what they think should happen.

Slightly over a year ago, Nick Kurtz was getting drafted out of Wake Forest. Now, Kurtz is not only playing in the majors, but he just made MLB history. Kurtz became the first rookie ever to hit four home runs in a major league game. "The Big Amish," Kurtz's nickname despite the fact that he is not Amish, went 6-for-6 with 4 HR, 8 RBI and 19 total bases vs. the Houston Astros on Friday night. Although Jacob Wilson has taken most of the headlines for the A's, they have another star in Kurtz. The guys discuss his historic game, his impressive last couple of months and what the future looks like for the young slugger.

While a rookie was etching his name into the record books this weekend, some MLB legends were being immortalized into baseball history. Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner, Dave Parker and Dick Allen were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday in Cooperstown. Jake and Jordan discuss the emotional ceremony.

All of this news and we haven't even talked about all of the series from the weekend. Jake and Jordan cover every single series including sweeps by the Mets, Reds and Rangers. They get you caught up on everything that happened on the field and where they think some potential trades might be stirring off of the field.

The live Trade Deadline Reaction show is Thursday at 5:30pm ET. Don't miss the guys discussing all of the madness of the trade deadline and real-time reactions to any trades that happen in the final minutes.

Begin your MLB Trade Deadline week at the Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

Mariners-D-backs kick off trade season, Spencer Jones-Yankees dilemma & Josh Luber talks sports collectibles Jul 25, 2025
    Show notes

We’re officially less than one week away from the July 31st Major League Baseball trade deadline and some teams are already making moves. On Thursday night, the Seattle Mariners acquired Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks, a strong move that might have multiple implications for both teams as they head into the ever so important deadline season.

On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss why this trade from the D-backs might signal they're ready to start selling off some highly desirable players before the deadline and why it's no surprise that Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto is already taking action to boost Seattle’s chances in the wild card race. Which player could be next to go from Arizona in the next few days?

The guys are then joined by Josh Luber, co-founder of StockX and founder of Ghostwrite, to talk about his experience in the sports collectibles world. Josh shares the story of how he acquired one of the rarest Shohei Ohtani autographed rookie cards and details his latest collaboration with MLB and the Ghostwrite brand, set to launch in August.

Later, Jake and Jordan make their picks for The Good, The Bad, and The Uggla including why now might be the perfect time for the New York Yankees to trade Spencer Jones to help their current roster problems, how Rich Hill is defying all odds at his age by pitching for the Kansas City Royals this year and much more.

MLB trade deadline preview: buyers & sellers Jul 23, 2025
    Show notes

There is slightly over a week until the MLB trade deadline. Rumors are running rampant as it nears the time for teams to decide if they are going to bolster their roster for a run towards the postseason or if they are going to cut their losses and prepare for the future. Some will be buyers and some will be sellers. That is exactly what Jake and Jordan discuss. They break down each team and project what moves those teams might make. Eugenio Suárez is the biggest name being rumored to be swapping jerseys by next week. Will he be the latest Bronx Bomber or will another team come in and take the star? The Dodgers have had a far less spectacular season, thus far, than many expected, and their pitching depth needs help. Who might they go get to help them on their quest to repeat as World Series champions? The two best teams in baseball are notorious for not doing much at the trade deadline. What kind of moves, if any, will the Milwaukee Brewers and the Detroit Tigers make? 30 teams, more than 30 possibilities and one podcast to cover it all.

Plus, Robert Murray, MLB Insider for FanSided, joins the show. He gives his thoughts on what to watch for as we approach the trade deadline. He also tells the story of the career-altering moment he broke the Rafael Devers trade news.

Don't forget about our special MLB Trade Deadline Live Show. In just over a week, on July 31, you can join Jake and Jordan live as they cover the final moments of the trade deadline and react to all of the drama that unfolded.

Enjoy a mid-week break at the Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

Brewers sweep Dodgers & a weekend recap Jul 21, 2025
    Show notes

The first series back after the All-Star break did not go as planned for the Los Angeles Dodgers. On the flip-side, it went as well as it could go for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers swept the Dodgers, in LA, over the weekend as they extended their win streak to ten and climbed up the standings to tie the Cubs for the lead in the NL Central. The Dodgers remain 3.5 games up in the NL West, but everything is not going according to the script in Los Angeles. Mookie Betts' struggles continued, and he's now been moved into the leadoff spot, and Freddie Freeman left the game Sunday after getting hit on the wrist. Freeman's future availability is currently in question. Jake and Jordan discuss both the impressive success of the Brewers and the Dodgers struggles.

That was not the only sweep of the weekend as the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks swept their series, and the Chicago White Sox notched their first sweep of the year by taking down the Pittsburgh Pirates. The guys dive into each of these series as well as the Cubs vs. Red Sox, Yankees vs. Braves and Reds vs. Mets. They wrap up by going Turbo Mode to chat about every other series over the weekend.

Plus, the Mets retired David Wright's jersey number on Saturday and Jake and Jordan reflect on the former Met's impressive career.

What to watch for post-All-Star break & Commissioner Manfred speaks to the press Jul 18, 2025
    Show notes

The All-Star break is now complete and the back stretch of MLB's season begins today. With so many storylines to follow, Jake and Jordan discuss the most compelling races for the remainder of the baseball season. After a very rocky start, could the Boston Red Sox still capture the AL East? Which teams are best positioned to make the postseason in the AL and NL Wild Card races? Plus, as we move closer to the end of the season, who are the favorites for postseason awards? Are Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani destined to repeat, or might Cal Raleigh dump on Judge’s chances?

The All-Star break also brought some important insight from Commissioner Manfred, who met with the media before the All-Star Game on Tuesday. One of the key topics addressed was the Olympics. It appears there's still a lot to be figured out regarding whether players will be able to compete in the LA Summer Games. Although it’s three years away, it’s clear that time is of the essence for a decision. A couple of teams around the league are on the brink of being sold and the Commissioner had thoughts on each. Jake and Jordan dive into what he said about these topics and more as they explore what the future of baseball may look like.

Later, everyone’s favorite segment of the week is here: a new meaning to “The Big Dumper,” Zack Jack Mack from San Jac and a few tweets highlight this week’s The Good, The Bad and The Uggla.

National League wins historic 2025 All-Star Game, Cal Raleigh crowned Home Run Derby champ Jul 16, 2025
    Show notes

2025's edition of the Mid-Summer Classic turned out to be a first of its kind on Tuesday night. At the center of it was a player who is no stranger to the dramatic. The NL jumped out to a 6-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, but the AL came storming back. The game remained tied at the end of nine innings. The result turned out to be the first ever home run swing-off. Each team had three batters with three swings each. Whoever hit the most home runs was to be declared the winner. Down two home runs, the Phillies Kyle Schwarber hit a hat-trick of home runs to give the NL the win. Schwarber was named the MVP. Jake and Jordan talk about the electric finish to the night.

The game's end was not the only highlight of the night. MLB showed out in style in the ATL, including a red carpet entrance earlier in the day. Three home runs, before the swing-off, Kershaw mic'd up while pitching, the ABS challenge system being used, and Misiorowski entering in the eighth are just a few of the many standout moments from the game. Jake and Jordan discuss everything that happened at Truist Park.

Tuesday night was not the only night of drama this week. Monday night's Home Run Derby lived up to its billing, but the winner was not who everyone expected. The man who leads MLB in home runs, but was not the favorite in the Derby, came away with the win. Cal Raleigh put on a show after barely making it out of the first round. It was a family affair with Raleigh's brother catching and his dad pitching. Jake and Jordan both did not pick 'The Big Dumper' to win, but they discuss his impressive Home Run Derby performance.
From Truist Park, get the immediate All-Star Game reaction from the guys on this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

All-Star pitching controversy, MLB Draft reactions & weekend recap Jul 14, 2025
    Show notes

The All-Star festivities are already underway in Atlanta, and there has been no lack of drama leading up to Tuesday night's main event. With rosters in flux as players drop out of the game, the latest conversation is around who has been selected to be on the mound. The Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski was named to the NL All-Star team as an injury replacement. Misiorowski has only pitched 25.2 innings in the majors; the fewest innings a pitcher has ever pitched and been named to an All-Star team. That being said, having an ERA of 2.81 and allowing only 12 hits, 8 runs and striking out 33 in those 25.2 innings is pretty impressive. Is five starts enough to justify an All-Star appearance? MLB seems to think so, as they look for who will draw the most eyes Tuesday night, but the players seem to have taken exception to this selection. Jake and Jordan discuss everything surrounding the drama and give their takes.

Some more news about who will be on the mound was announced over the weekend as we found out the All-Star pitching starters. Pittsburgh Pirate Paul Skenes and Detroit Tiger Tarik Skubal are set to face-off in Atlanta on Tuesday. This matchup has provided a lot less controversy and a lot more excitement than the Misiorowski drama. Jake and Jordan talk about what they expect to see from this matchup and how the selection process went down.

We got to see MLB's future on and off of the field this weekend. Not only did the MLB Futures Game happen, which the guys chat about, but the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft took place on Sunday. The Washington Nationals selected Eli Willits, a 17-year-old shortstop, with the first overall pick. The drama did not stop there and our draft guru, Jordan, breaks down all the highlights and takeaways from the first day of the draft.

Finally, non-All-Star related MLB games were played this weekend. The Red Sox mopped the Rays, the Mariners swept the Tigers and the Brewers swept the Nationals. The guys fill you in on all the highlights from a packed weekend in baseball.

Plus, Paul Konerko received a signed White Sox jersey from the Pope.

Home Run Derby predictions & MLB Draft preview Jul 11, 2025
    Show notes

The 4th of July has passed, but there will be some fireworks in Atlanta in just a few days as one of the most electrifying events in baseball takes center stage. The Home Run Derby. A stacked field will arrive at Truist Park ready to put on a show. The eight contestants consist of Cal Raleigh, James Wood, Junior Caminero, Byron Buxton, Brent Rooker, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Oneil Cruz and Ronald Acuña Jr. Jake and Jordan have been bursting with excitement for this year's Derby, and now they break down the field and ultimately pick a winner.

While those home run hitters are preparing to show off their power, the next great home run hitters might be waiting to hear their names called as the MLB Draft is just a couple of days away. The Washington Nationals have the number one pick. Coming off of a recent franchise overhaul, with the firing of their long-time GM and manager, they hope to take someone who will help carry them into the future. Jake and Jordan discuss this and chat about names to look out for in the 2025 MLB Draft.

MLB has announced its top-20 highest selling jerseys, and to no one's surprise, Shohei Ohtani is at the top of that list. What is surprising is where some other players landed, including those who didn't make or fell off of the list.

Last, but surely not least, everyone's favorite segment of the week is here. The Good, The Bad & The Uggla. Steve Cohen has taken to twitter again, Justin Verlander has a very unfortunate stat on the year and an epic playlist are some of the highlights from this week's segment.

Dodgers & Blue Jays streaking in different ways, All-Star Week updates & Bryson Stott interview Jul 09, 2025
    Show notes

The Los Angeles Dodgers went into Tuesday night riding a four-game losing streak, hoping that Clayton Kershaw could get them back into the win column to calm fans’ nerves. However, it was the Milwaukee Brewers’ young buck Jacob Misiorowski who outdueled the future Hall of Famer, handed LA another loss and started to raise some concerns among the Dodger Blue faithful.

Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss why they’re not overly concerned about the Dodgers’ recent play and what big problem does worry them if it’s not fixed by the postseason. They then dive into the extremely impressive 10-game winning streak by the Toronto Blue Jays, leaving them one win shy of tying their franchise record that now sees them alone at the top of the AL East.

Later in this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan are joined by Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott to talk about his time in Philly, taking pride in being a batter who sees a lot of pitches and why it might take a little while for Las Vegas to catch onto baseball. The guys then close the show by discussing the home run race between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh, before sharing some insights on the 2025 Futures Game and Home Run Derby.

They also discuss what the Nationals future looks like and where they may go from here.
