Kyle Tucker gets benched, Shane Bieber to return from UCL tear & Brian Anderson joins the show Aug 20, 2025
    Show notes

Kyle Tucker was in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15, playing in an unforgettable MLB All-Star Game. Just over a month later, Tucker finds himself headed to the bench amidst a cacophony of boos. The All-Star has not been putting up All-Star type numbers. He has been hitting a dismal .160 average in August and has not hit a home run since July 19. Tucker hopes to hit a reset and figure a way out of his slump from the dugout as the Cubs, who currently lead the NL Wild Card race, look to make a push for the postseason. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the lead-up to this benching and how Tucker and the Cubs can figure out a way forward.

“I’ve never seen anything like this from a Brewers team” is a strong statement, especially coming from Milwaukee Brewers and Turner Sports broadcaster, Brian Anderson. Anderson joins the show and chats with Jake and Jordan about the magical season the Brewers are having thus far. What is it about this team that makes them different from everyone else? Anderson talks about what he is seeing out of Brewers' manager Pat Murphy and how he has seen him change over time. The three also discuss Brewers' associate manager Ricky Weeks and how vital he is to the team's success. Finally, they discuss Christian Yelich and the leadership role he now plays in the clubhouse.

Later on in the show, the guys fill you in on what is happening Around The League. In Toronto, Shane Bieber is preparing to return on Friday from his 2024 UCL tear, and subsequent Tommy John surgery. Plus, Seattle Mariner Victor Robles has been suspended 10 games from his bat-throwing incident. Jake and Jordan fill you in on their thoughts of these situations plus everything else around the league.

Get over that mid-week hump here on Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

Dodgers sweep Padres, Commissioner Manfred talks expansion and realignment & weekend recap Aug 18, 2025
    Show notes

The San Diego Padres walked into Dodger Stadium, on Friday, with a one-game lead in the NL West over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They left, on Sunday, two games behind the Dodgers after being swept over the weekend. The Padres struggled at the plate in the series. Is this a sign of an improving pitching staff for the Dodgers? Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss their takeaways from the series and preview what it may be a sign of for the rest of the season. These two teams will meet up again this weekend in San Diego.

The Little League Classic was over the weekend. All of the little leaguers competing at the Little League World Series got to meet and watch some of their favorite major leaguers. Jordan, who was in attendance, shares some of the stories he witnessed from the weekend. The guys dive into the importance of these events and the memories they have from years past. In contrast to the little leaguers' unadulterated joy, drama across Major League Baseball came from the broadcast. Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke about realignment and expansion plans for MLB's future. Jake and Jordan discuss what they think an actual timeline for this is and how they see it playing out.

Amongst all of this drama, there were so many other series played. Three other sweeps occurred this weekend by the Yankees, the Braves and the Royals. Giancarlo Stanton may be injured. How might this change the Yankees? The Guardians have a huge misstep against the Braves. How can they recover? The Royals are trying to work their way into the Wild Card conversation. Jake and Jordan dive into all of these topics and every other series from the weekend.

Padres overtake Dodgers in NL West before weekend showdown + Mookie Betts interview Aug 15, 2025
    Show notes

The Los Angeles Dodgers sat on top of the NL West with a nine game cushion, on July 3rd, and looked ready to run away with the division. Not even a month and a half later they've fallen out of first place after going 12-21 in that timespan. In the same timespan, the San Diego Padres have gone 23-12 and taken sole possession of first place in the NL West. All of this leads up to back-to-back weekend series between the two teams. First up, it's the Dodgers turn to play host. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the Dodgers' slide and everything that led up to it. They also discuss where the Padres are right now and how they see the rest of the season playing out for both teams.

Later in the show, a star from the Dodgers joins Jake and Jordan as they chat with Mookie Betts! They chat about Mookie's career in podcasting, what it has been like being a part of the Dodgers, the struggles of both the team and himself this season and how impressive it is to watch Shohei Ohtani pitch and hit.

The guys wrap up the show with some distraught, but funny, mentions that plagued the Minnesota Twins' socials coming on the heels of the announcement that the team was not being sold. To finish, Jake and Jordan share this week's edition of The Good, The Bad and The Uggla. The Milwaukee Brewers come through for free burgers, a Bob has returned to Major League Baseball, betting on children's baseball is discouraged and more!

All of this and more to close out your week on Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

Pete Alonso breaks Mets home run record, Ohtani in hot water again & MLB's top prospects Aug 13, 2025
    Show notes

A polar bear walks into a ball park and hits a home run. No this isn't the beginning of a joke, it's just another day at Citi Field as Pete Alonso, nicknamed Polar Bear, hit two home runs on Tuesday against the Braves. What was special this time, especially with the first home run he hit in the bottom of the third inning, was Alonso breaking the Mets all-time home run record of 252 set by Darryl Strawberry. Alonso will continue to extend that record, currently at 254, for as long as he remains a Met. Jake and Jordan talk about how long that may be and reflect on this impressive accomplishment.

MLB's top 100 prospect lists have been updated and Jordan is here to break it all down. He shares which prospects this season have stood out to him the most, what guys are having breakout years, who may get called up to the big leagues before the end of the year and what teams have the most interesting group of prospects. He and Jake get you caught up on the future of Major League Baseball.

How the west was won is the talk around baseball, but it's not the 1962 movie that everyone is talking about. The talk is about the western divisional races that look like they may come down to the wire. With 42 games left in the regular season, the Mariners and Astros are tied for first in the American League West and the Dodgers and Padres are tied for first in the National League West. The guys talk about how they think this final stretch will go and who will come out on top.

Plus, Jake reveals breaking news as he finds out that the Minnesota Twins have announced they are not being sold, the guys discuss the Brewers' 11-game winning streak and the restaurant that is giving out free burgers if they make it to 12 games and Shohei Ohtani is in the midst of another controversy.

All of this and more to get you over the mid-week hump on Baseball Bar-B-Cast.

Brewers serve payback to Mets, Dodgers getting help from IL & deflated Cubs fall to rival Cardinals Aug 11, 2025
    Show notes

Heading into the weekend, the Milwaukee Brewers had revenge on their minds for the last time they played the New York Mets at home. The Mets staged a dramatic comeback in the 2024 postseason and knocked out the Brew Crew. However, things were a little different this time in Milwaukee, with the Brewers dishing out a sweep of the Amazin’s.

Jordan Shusterman is joined by guest host Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports Network to break down whether what the Brewers are doing is truly sustainable and to analyze the remarkable season from Brandon Woodruff thus far. They then recap all the other sweeps, including the Philadelphia Phillies beginning to pull away from the Mets and the Seattle Mariners starting to nip at the heels of the Houston Astros in the AL West.

Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan and Lance talk about the Chicago Cubs looking deflated in their series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees continuing to struggle as former champions were celebrated during Old Timers’ Day in the Bronx and the Los Angeles Dodgers getting much-needed help with players coming off the injured list. They also recap all the other action from around the league this weekend.

Roman Anthony extension, Jen Pawol to make MLB history, Andrew Vaughn's rebirth & more Aug 08, 2025
    Show notes

By the time Roman Anthony is 30 years old, he will have made well over $100 million on MLB contracts alone. This stems from the Boston Red Sox latest extension which the 21-year-old rookie signed for eight years and $130 million. That number could go even higher if he hits certain markers. The earliest Anthony would be able to hit free agency is 2034, when he is 30, so the Red Sox will have their rookie star for the foreseeable future. Jake and Jordan give their thoughts on the deal and what it means for the future of the Red Sox.

Andrew Vaughn has stepped into the spotlight in his new home of Milwaukee. The former 3rd overall pick struggled during his time on the White Sox. It got so bad that at the time of his last game with Chicago he had a -1.4 WAR, good for the worst in MLB. Since being traded to the Brewers, not only has his WAR turned around, but he also has an NL leading 1.146 OPS. Jake and Jordan dive into what sparked this turn around, if Vaughn can keep it going and what his career looks like going forward.

A major league debut is happening on the diamond this weekend, but this person won't be wearing a glove. Jen Pawol is debuting as MLB's first female umpire in a regular season game. She is scheduled to be behind the plate for the series finale of the Marlins vs. Braves on Sunday, August 10. The guys discuss this historic moment.

It's that time of the week. The Good, The Bad & The Uggla! A legendary pitching matchup happens one last time, Boston fans are able to reuse an old sign and the Cubs trade acquisition gets hurt after two innings. Check out the best stories of the week in baseball.

2025 free agent rankings, questions from the mailbag & Heart and Hustle Awards Aug 06, 2025
    Show notes

Jake's 2025 free agent rankings are in. Is Kyle Schwarber really ahead of Pete Alonso? Guest host, Bailey Freeman, aka Foolish Baseball, pinch hits for Jordan Shusterman and gives his thoughts on Jake's list. Where does he agree and disagree with the rankings mid-season?

The Yankees lost again, and this time Aaron Judge was in the lineup. The guys give their thoughts on the situation in the Bronx and take a look, maybe regrettably so, at the Yankees mentions following their 2-0 loss to the Rangers on this week's "Sorry for Your Mentions."

You provided the questions and now Jake and Bailey will provide the answers. They reach into the mailbag and answer some questions from the audience! Do MLB players get jury duty? What other non-baseball stadiums should host a game? How exactly should we be evaluating MLB managers? The guys discuss.

The Heart and Hustle Award, possibly MLB's least talked about award, is given out by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to the player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game. Each team has a winner, and then an overall winner is selected from each of the 30 individual team winners. Bailey tries to guess each team's choice. Jordan will do the same on Friday. Who knows ball more? We will find out.

Yankees swept, Red Sox and Brewers sweep & a weekend recap Aug 04, 2025
    Show notes

The post-trade deadline MLB season got off to an inauspicious start for the New York Yankees as they flew down to Miami and got swept by the Marlins. That was the first time in franchise history that the Marlins swept the Yankees. Miami is now back to .500 while the Yankees have fallen to third in the AL East. Although New York still owns one of the coveted Wild Card spots, is Aaron Boone's seat starting to get a bit warmer? Jake and Jordan discuss this, what is going on with the Yankees and if they still look like they can be a postseason contender.

Feeling the exact opposite of the Yankees right now is their bitter rival, the Boston Red Sox. Boston spent the weekend cleaning up Fenway as they swept the Houston Astros. The Red Sox now sit atop of the AL Wild Card race and just three games back in the AL East. The Milwaukee Brewers were the third and final sweep of the weekend as they took care of the Washington Nationals. How are both the Brewers and Red Sox looking as they inch closer to the postseason? Is Jacob Misiorowski going to the IL as big of a deal as it may seem? The guys dive into both of these series.

There was a baseball game at a Nascar stadium this weekend. The Cincinnati Reds played the Atlanta Braves at Bristol Motor Speedway. The game finished up on Sunday after Saturday saw it get rained out in the first inning. Although the pomp and circumstance, complete with a Home Run Car, was dampened by the rain, the spectacle was still a sight to behold as the Braves took down the Reds. Jake and Jordan discuss this unique event and run through every other series from the weekend.

2025 MLB Trade Deadline Reaction Show: Carlos Correa, Eugenio Suárez & Mason Miller dealt! Aug 01, 2025
    Show notes

On Thursday, every MLB team set out to finalize their rosters for a potential postseason push or to revitalize their organizations with pieces that might help in the future. As trades poured in before the 6 p.m. ET deadline, the Baseball Bar-B-Cast was there to react and respond to the flurry of moves.

Bryce Harper vs. Rob Manfred, Emmanuel Clase put on leave & Remembering Ryne Sandberg Jul 30, 2025
    Show notes

Tensions were high in Philadelphia last week when Rob Manfred conducted his annual meeting with the Phillies. These meetings are something he does with each team every year. Although it is reported the words "salary cap" were not mentioned, the discussion of the "game's economics" caused Bryce Harper to confront Manfred and cuss him out. Jake and Jordan fill you in on all the information leading up to the incident and what the bigger picture is. What does this mean for the future of the CBA negotiations and how do the players and league proceed from here? Is a lockout looming? The guys break it all down.

There have always been issues with gambling in sports, and the legalization of gambling may have made that slope even slipperier. The latest gambling issue is in Cleveland. Star closer for the Cleveland Guardians, Emmanuel Clase, has been placed on the restricted list during an ongoing sports betting investigation. Clase joins his Guardians teammate, Luis Ortiz, as part of the investigation. More information will come out about the situation, but Jake and Jordan fill you in on all of the info there is currently surrounding the situation, where it may go from here and what this means for both Clase and the Guardians.

Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg died on Monday at the age of 65. He had been diagnosed with cancer in 2024. The former second baseman for the Cubs was a 10-time All-Star, 9-time Gold Glove winner and the 1984 NL MVP. Jake and Jordan react to the tragic news and remember the Chicago icon.

Plus, the MLB Trade Deadline is only a day away. The guys run through some trades that have already happened as we gear up for our live Trade Deadline Show. Be sure to join us tomorrow at 5:30 pm ET on YouTube, X, Facebook or TikTok as the guys react to the final minutes of the deadline and Jake and Jordan give all of their takeaways.
