#12 The Fifth Element (1997) Jul 16, 2021

Show notes

Pleeeese Halp - I used to be so lukewarm on the Fifth Element. Even though I was a big fan of Bruce Willis, at the time this came out I didn't think much of it. It was okay, but I never thought it was worth revisiting. After coming back to it at the suggestion of our first time guest, Jesse Hurst - I have now fallen in love with this movie. This is almost exclusively due to a new found appreciation for Milla Jovovich and her performance in this film, along with the undeniable chemistry between her and Bruce. We were joined by my long time friend and collaborator but also first time guest Nicole Frier and our one of our regulars, the Nebraskan himself, Brady Cox. Some movies that you may have felt one way about, might be worth a second look. I truly believe that certain movies hit different depending on where we are in life when we encounter them.

#11 The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987) Jul 09, 2021

Show notes

The movie based on a trading card (which is always a great basis for a movie) was a huge box office flop when it came out. Even though there were thousands of kids who liked the Garbage Pail Kids, they couldn't get them to come see the movie. The truth is it was doomed from the start by a horrible plot (they form a sweat shop to meet a teenage girls demand for a fashion show) or animatronic heads that don't work (nightmare fuel). Whatever it was, this film is a disaster and we try to find a single redeeming quality. Is there a reason that this movie actually rules?

#10 Timecop (1994) Jul 02, 2021

Show notes

The movie that sees Jean Claude Van Damme roundhouse kick time right in it's stupid face. This is a fun time travel movie even if the majority of the time they are traveling back and forth between an indistinguisable 1994 and 2004. This is much more story-driven than typical JCVD fare, but it's a great movie and a lot of fun, with a great payoff in the final 30 minutes. Give it a watch and then come join us to pull it apart.

#9 UHF (1989) Jun 25, 2021

Show notes

Weird Al has only ever done one movie, because the world could only ever handle one Weird Al movie. Everyone on the panel loved this movie, so we walk through the film showering it with praise - this is a movie that bombed in the box office but is beloved by many fans today. Come join the party and have a laugh with us as we talk about the 1989 classic, UHF. Even if you aren't old enough to know what a UHF station is, you will still love this!

#8 Howard the Duck (1986) Jun 18, 2021

Show notes

The duck that almost sank George Lucas, while also simultaneously being responsible for Pixar's creation. Howard the Duck is a movie that has no idea what it wants to be. Does it want to be a kids movie? A comic book adventure? An 80's sex comedy? It ends up being none of these things, yet somehow ends up with a large cult following 35 years later. We examine the movie and try to find some redeeming qualities, but here's a hint, one of them is not Tim Robbin's performance. Come and have a laugh with us.

#7 Judge Dredd (1995) Jun 11, 2021

Show notes

Stallone was headlining the last big summer blockbuster of his original run as a top box office draw. There were lots of behind-the-scenes struggles concerning the tone of Judge Dredd and what movie they should make. What is great about 1995's Judge Dredd? What didn't make any sense at all? Was the 1995 version better than the 2012 version? We dive deep into this futuristic Stallone action movie and wonder about Dredd's power fist, and the physics of the Flame Pipe.

#6 Cool As Ice (1991) Jun 04, 2021

Show notes

One of the most unintentionally hilarious movies to ever be released about a white rapper chasing after a high school horse girl. Yes, this movie is horrible, but it's horrible in the best way possible. I'm a little disappointed in myself for having such a good time watching this and talking about it. So here it is - a stunningly accurate portrayal of the kind of guy a horse girl goes for. Cool as Ice!

Show notes

Imagine having to fight your last seven podcast hosts before moving on to a new podcast? Would you fight for us? Don't worry, we love you even if you don't love us. Today on the podcast we discuss Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. This movie bombed upon release, but is it bad? Short answer, no. It's incredible and we can't fathom why people didn't go see this movie when it came out. At the time many actors in this cast weren't household names - now many of them are A-List! We give out awards, and pick who each of us believed to be the top 3 performers!

We also ask and answer the most important question - if the 7 evil exes were forced to fight each other, who would emerge victorious?

Hosted by James Hauser, Curt Mummer, Joseph Goratowski, and with special guest Josh Servi.

#4 Mystery Men (1999) May 21, 2021

Show notes

We're not your typical podcasters, we're not the favorites...we're the other guys! In this episode, James and Clint are joined by Mike Svara as they discuss, argue, vent, and dissect the cult superhero movie, Mystery Men. We discuss the characters, who we loved, and who we'd rather go through a painful surgery then listen to.

We have plenty of praise for the movie that now appears to have been way ahead of it's time. Who will win the coveted Will Patton award and why did this randomly turn into a Warriors knock-off at the end? Come join us and let's discuss Mystery Men.

#3 Suburban Commando (1991) May 14, 2021

Show notes

The screenwriter for this masterpiece, Frank Cappello joins the guys to discuss the 1991 classic Hulk Hogan movie, Suburban Commando. We break the film down, and then Frank joins us to talk about how much the film changed from his orginal script, along with some behind the scenes story about the making of the film. Did you know it was inspired by an old Sci-Fi Classic from the 50s?

This movie came out when we were 6th graders and so that probably has something to do with why we love it. As always we pick the top performers in the film, break down the best quotes in the script and give out the coveted Will Patton Award.

Also, what wrestler could they remake this movie with today and have it still be just as cheesy? We want to hear from you so feel free to email us at ThisShowIsTrash@gmail.com and follow us on Facebook.com/BadMoviesRule - thank you for listening - we love you!
