    Baby-Led Weaning with Katie Ferraro

    Is your baby ready to start solid foods but you’re feeling overwhelmed or confused about baby-led weaning? Babies can eat so many more foods than we give them credit for and you don’t have to force-feed or spoon-feed to get them to eat real food!

    I’m Katie Ferraro, Registered Dietitian specializing in infant feeding and baby-led weaning. I’m a college nutrition professor and mom of 7, and my goal is to help you start solid foods safely using baby-led weaning.

    On this podcast I share practical tips on safe food preparation and starting solid foods, as well as in-depth interviews with other feeding experts. Listen to learn how you can get your baby to safely enjoy real food so that you can start enjoying mealtimes again too!

    #208: Does baby food really contain heavy metals that are toxic for my baby? Well according to the tests that Consumer Reports conducted on fifty nationally distributed packaged baby and toddler foods, it definitely does! In this episode we are joined by James E. Rogers PhD, he is the Director of Food Safety Research and Testing at Consumer Reports who will be talking about how the heavy metals in baby food study was conducted, why they chose the tested baby foods, what the tests found and some recommendations for parents who are considering some of these products for their babies.

    #206: What is my feeding role as a parent and how do I make sure that I stay in my lane to ensure a healthy feeding relationship with my baby? Oftentimes it is common to feel the need and responsibility to manage what, when, and how much our babies eat but in reality a parent and a baby have different jobs during the transition into solid foods and learning how to eat.

    In this episode, I am joined by Marsha Dunn Klein, OTR/L, MEd, FAOTA who is a pediatric occupational therapist specialized in working with children who have feeding challenges for 50 years and she is here to clearly define what a parent and baby role consist of and provide us with some tips on how to build a stronger feeding relationship.

    • Marsha Dunn Klein OTR/L,MEd, FAOTA is a pediatric occupational therapist who has spent a career specializing in pediatric feeding challenges. • She received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from Sargent College of Boston University in 1971. She also received a master’s degree in education with emphasis on special education in 1975 from the University of Arizona. • Marsha has co-authored PreFeeding Skills editions one and two and Mealtime Participation Guide and Homemade Blended Formula Handbook with Suzanne Evans Morris and Feeding and Nutrition for the Child with Special Needs with Tracy Delaney. • Her book Anxious Eaters, Anxious Mealtimes: Practical and Compassionate Strategies for Mealtime Peace serves as a great resource for parents and caregivers.
