    Authentic

G’day, I’m Kat John, authenticity coach, author, keynote speaker and everyday human. This podcast is where we tell the truth. No highlight reels, no love and light spritzing, no pretending. Just real conversations about what it actually takes to live aligned with who you are beneath the roles, patterns, and conditioning.

I teach this work because I live this work. Together, we explore the ongoing dance between your ego self and your true self in relationships, money, work, family, and the everyday moments that shape a well-lived life.

Expect grounded guidance, raw reflections, and conversations that don’t shy away from the messy middle. This is a space to get honest, take responsibility, and come home to yourself, one real step at a time.

New episodes drop weekly on Mondays. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.
And if it lands, a rating or review genuinely helps this work reach the people who need it.

Kat & Steve - The load of life May 18, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode, Steve and I talk about something I think a lot of couples quietly go through: when the load of life becomes so heavy that it starts impacting the relationship.

Not because love is gone or because anyone’s doing something terribly wrong.
But because one person is overloaded, stretched thin, carrying too much and the relationship starts feeling the weight of it too.

I share honestly about missing Steve recently, even while living in the same house. Missing the connection, the fun, the softness, the smooshiness of us. And how easy it can be, when one person is overwhelmed, for the other person to take it personally and create even more tension in the dynamic.

Because when your needs aren’t being met, it hurts. But sometimes, the most loving thing you can do is recognise that your partner is drowning under the weight of life, and stop making their overwhelm about your rejection.

We also speak about how unsustainable it is to carry too much for too long. Because if the overloaded person doesn’t deload, eventually something gives. Their health. Their nervous system. Their joy. The relationship.

This is a conversation about perspective, compassion, communication, and recognising when life is simply asking too much of someone for too long.

Play the long game May 11, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode, I speak about the pressure I used to put on myself to heal quicker, grow quicker, feel better quicker, and become “better” faster. I genuinely believed that if I was doing the work on myself, then surely I should be further along by now.

That mindset created so much suffering. I was constantly living with this quiet pressure in the background of my life, telling myself to hurry up, get there already, figure it out, fix it, improve. I struggled to let life unfold because I was too busy trying to force myself into the next version of me.

But over time, life has shown me that the most meaningful things rarely happen quickly. Trusting yourself again takes time. Building healthy relationships takes time. Changing lifelong patterns takes time. Coming home to yourself takes time.

None of the things that deeply changed my life happened overnight. They happened through small decisions, small shifts, and repeated moments where I chose to stay with myself instead of giving up on myself.

And eventually, I looked back and realised that things had actually changed. Not because I rushed them, but because I stayed long enough for the change to happen.

This episode is for anyone who feels frustrated with how long growth, healing, or life is taking. Maybe your life is not behind. Maybe your growth is not late. Maybe you just need to stop rushing yourself and play the long game.

Too in our heads May 04, 2026
    Show notes

I recorded this in a moment where nothing big was happening.

Clouds moving. Rain on the window. Wind through the trees. The dogs snoring. And me, just sitting there, actually in it.

We say we want peace, we say we want to feel better but we’re often anywhere but here. In our heads, in the next thing, in our phones, in the past, in the future.

And then we wonder why we feel disconnected, or lonely, or unfulfilled, or empty, or feel list.

This episode is that reminder. That you find yourself in the simple, ordinary, right-in-front-of-you moments.

There I am, in the simplest of things Apr 27, 2026
    Show notes

We find myself in the simple things. In movement, nature, laughter, in doing what we love.

We lose ourselves in the noise of the mind, the pressure to be more, do more, become more and feel disconnected from ourselves.

But the truth is we’re not lost and it doesn’t take much to come back.

This episode is a reminder that you don’t need to go searching for yourself.

You’re already here. Sometimes you just need to come back to what’s simple.

When I stopped needing to be liked as a step-mum Apr 20, 2026
    Show notes

This one took a while to land.

The part that tried hard not to upset anyone, to do it right, to keep the peace, to earn my place was running rampant!

    And how exhausting that became.

Somewhere along the way, I realised trying to be liked was costing me something far too precious ... myself.

This is a conversation about self-abandonment in prettier clothes. About confusing being liked with being loving. About the shift from managing everyone else’s comfort to staying true to what feels right and good and true for you.

If you’re a step-parent who has bent yourself to belong, bit your tongue, second-guessed your instincts or wondered why this role can feel so hard, this one is for you.

    Kat & Steve - If we had 24 hours left ... Apr 13, 2026
    Show notes

We asked a question ...“If we had 24 hours left on earth, what would we do?”

A real, honest question to look at what actually matters when time is no longer on our side. Because questions like this have a way of showing you your life as it is, not the one you say you want, but the one you’re actually living.

    What would you drop?
    What would you lean into?
    Who would you call?
How would you spend your time?

And maybe the better question is, what’s stopping you from living a little more like that now?

    "I'm not ready yet!" Apr 06, 2026
    Show notes

You keep telling yourself you’re not ready. Not clear enough, not confident enough, not quite there yet.

But if you’re honest, you already know.

You know the conversation you’ve been avoiding. You know the decision you keep circling. You know what’s not working anymore.

This episode is about that space. The in-between where you sit and think, and think and think some more whilst thinking you need more time, when really you’re avoiding what the next step is asking of you.

It might disrupt things. It might feel uncomfortable. It might require you to show up in a way you haven’t before. So instead, you stay in your head. You go back and forth. You wait for a feeling that isn’t coming.

In this episode I talk about the illusion of readiness, why clarity doesn’t come before action, and how we keep ourselves stuck by calling avoidance “not being ready.”

If you’ve been circling something in your life, this one will land.

    Kat & Steve - To re-marry or not to re-marry Mar 30, 2026
    Show notes

I asked Steve a question - "were you scared to get married again, to be in a relationship again after your divorce?”

When something significant ends, especially a marriage, it changes you. It shapes how you see love, commitment, risk, yourself and others.

In this episode, Steve shares what it was actually like stepping back into a relationship after divorce. The hesitation. The awareness. The things he didn’t want to repeat. The work he needed to do on himself.

We talk about how he chose to do it differently the second time around.

This isn’t a conversation about getting it perfect and 100% right. It’s about being honest about what you carry from the past, and what you consciously choose to do differently moving forward.

If you’ve ever wondered if you can love again after something’s ended or how to not bring old patterns into something new, this one will land.

    I give myself permission to ... Mar 23, 2026
    Show notes

Permission sounds simple, but most of us are waiting for it.

Waiting for someone to say it’s okay to slow down, okay to change your mind, okay to outgrow something that once made sense.

But life rarely hands us that permission, and so, we keep going. We keep doing the roles we’ve always played. We keep carrying responsibilities, expectations, identities that once fit even when something inside us is saying that we’ve changed.

Transitions have a way of bringing that nudge to the surface.

A shift in your work, your relationships, your body, your priorities, your sense of who you are. And in those moments, the mind wants certainty. It wants a clear answer, a plan, a way to get back to solid ground.

But real change rarely works like that.

In this episode, I explore the idea of permission. Permission to be in a season of change. Permission to not have everything figured out yet. Permission to let go of what no longer fits. Permission to listen to the quieter voice inside you that knows something is shifting.

Sometimes the most honest thing you can do in the middle of life rearranging itself is stop fighting it and give yourself permission to be exactly where you are.

Kat & Steve - What we are carrying right now (and how we can help the other) Mar 16, 2026
    Show notes

Steve and I asked each other a simple question this week:

“What are you carrying right now that I might be unaware of… and how can I support you?”

When you live with someone, love them and talk to them every day there are always things they’re carrying that you don’t see. Or maybe you do, but you're asking the best question to help them express it.

Pressure. Worry. Fatigue. Things they haven’t quite found words for yet.

It’s easy in relationships to assume we know what’s going on for the other person, or to get caught up in our own world and forget to ask.

This episode is just us talking about that.

Just a real conversation about remembering to look at the person you love and ask a real type of question that will give real answers.
