In this edition of Attaboy Clarence...

And then, Lionel Barrymore and Spring Byington are the heads of a small-town family who have to use their wits in order to prevent their children lives from being ruined by nefarious businessmen in 1937's A Family Affair - a film that would give birth to one of the most enduring and successful box-office phenomenons of the Golden Age!

Noir State Of Mind Nov 07, 2022

Show notes

We've arrived in Noirvember, and so it's time to embrace the chills, the shadows and the cigarette smoke...

I've got reviews of two very different, but equally compelling noir classics that might have passed you by - 1947's The Web starring Edmond O'Brien, Ella Raines and Vincent Price, and the twisted psychological noir, The Locket from 1946, starring Laraine Day, Robert Mitchum and Brian Aherne.

Mitchum pops up again to give us a tune, and see if you can guess the identity of the famous Golden Age star when we play another round of Who The Hell Is That Hollywood Legend?

To top it all off, hear from a genuine queen of Hollywood, as I'm joined by actress Shelley Taylor Morgan, who discusses her love for Old Hollywood, and the ways in which she's spreading the love for cinematic music.

Radio entertainment this time comes from the Lux Radio Theatre, and their stellar presentation of a noir classic...

Appointment With Romance Feb 28, 2022

Show notes

Love is in the air this time, and what better way to make your heart beat faster than in the company of threeclassic romantic comedies.

First up, Carole Landis and John Hubbard are switching places, literally, in 1940 body-swap comedy Turnabout. James Cagney is romancing Gloria Stuart on the high seas in 1934's Here Comes The Navy. And Charles Boyer and Margaret Sullavan have the most unorthodox marriage you can imagine in 1941's Appointment For Love.

We've got music from Cagney himself, as well as dreamy tunes from Doris Day and Jo Stafford. We're playing another round of Who The Hell Is That Hollywood Legend?

And radio entertainment this week comes courtesy of Charles Boyer and Myrna Loy!
