      • How long does the program take to complete?
        • The program is self-paced, but is designed to be completed throughout the school year. The curriculum takes ~ 20 hours to complete. Once completed participants take an assessment and then assemble their portfolio to submit along with their application.

        • The program is centered on the 5-Step Coaching Model, and provides a structured, research-proven set of strategies to drive impactful coaching interactions and technology use. The focus, however, is not on the technology rather on building the relationships, making this program useful for all educators in a coaching role (not just for Tech Integrators). Google highlights their Workspace tools as a means to assist coaches in their work.

      • What is required to maintain your Certification?
        • Once a Google Certified Coach, you need to report 100 hours of 1:1 coaching per year to maintain certification on the EDU Activity App as well as maintain your Google Level 1 & 2 educator status.

        • The goal of the Google Certified Coach Cohort Program is to help instructional coaches strengthen their practice and successfully become Google for Education Certified Coaches. The first cohort was a huge success and we’re hoping for another great turnout this fall!

      • Benefits of MassCUE’s cohort program:
        • Support from facilitators who have completed the program and have experience coaching.
        • Support from peers who are working towards the same goal.
        • Monthly check-ins.
        • Sharing of strategies, tools, ideas, resources...- think tank model.

    • Hands-on, kinesthetic, group learning.
    • Present like a wrestler!
    • Playgrounds: Have an elevator pitch ready!

    Post Workshop
    • Collection of all resources on Wakelet to share

    • How do we accomplish this?
      • Conversations with administrators and get them on board.
      • Develop a team via PLC meetings to begin the strategic plan and decide how it will get carried out.
      • Write common goals for the teachers / teams to move in a similar direction

    • What if I don’t have support as a coach to accomplish this?
      • Have a plan written out of your own ideas of where the school/district might be going to help give direction and opportunity for conversation and planning.

    • How do we be sure our plans are put into motion in the new school year?
      • Continue to re-visit in regular meeting and updates with administrators and teacher meetings.

    Question of the Week

Our favorite part of recording a live podcast each week is participating in the great conversations that happen on our live chat, on social media, and in our comments section. This week's question is: What is the difference between coaching in elementary vs coaching secondary buildings?

    Coaching Elementary vs Coaching Secondary

“Our department is going through a district realignment. Our coaches are being asked to coach at the secondary level. What is the secondary world like? Do I use similar strategy to get into teachers classrooms as I do now?”
    • Relationships across the board. Make them comfortable coming to you no matter what grade level.
    • Remember Technology integration is the same basic concept. As the coach you are not expected to know the higher-level content; just be an encourager and motivator in teaching them how to integrate technology effectively.
    • Similar strategies are definitely effective such as 1:1 coaching, Lunch/learns, etc. Etc.
    • I Do-We Do-You Do model can be effective then word spreads to colleagues about the effectiveness of what you as a coach has taught them
    • At the high school level, think about meeting with the department heads periodically to get a feel for how things are going and then fill the principal in throughout the year.

    About “The Book”

This interactive book from the author of Sketchnoting in the Classroom shows educators how to use the practice of dot journaling to develop a personalized system for time management, goal setting and more to improve productivity and save time. We are living in an age when “hustle” and “grind” are part of our daily lives. While teachers are expected to stay on top of their lengthy to-do list, the demands on them are greater than ever. How can we provide the tools teachers and, by extension, their students need to declutter thoughts, manage time better, and remain focused and productive? With her approachable style, educator and trainer Nichole Carter demonstrates how unlocking the creative brain can help improve mental health and problem-solving ability, as well as lead to better self-awareness and time management. Filled with the author’s original illustrations, the book shares ideas and techniques for developing an effective, personalized system to improve productivity and address teacher burnout. The book can also help teachers help students — particularly those in older grades — prioritize and think through their thoughts, goals and actions to be more productive learners.

    About the Book

Learn how librarians can positively effect change in areas like digital equity and inclusiveness, while creating powerful programming for middle and high school students. Developing programs for learners can be an ongoing challenge for librarians – especially first-year librarians. Current books on the topic primarily focus on makerspaces or read alouds, and are aimed at elementary school grades, with a surface-level approach. This book addresses deeper issues that librarians face, while illustrating how to serve teens and tweens specifically by offering programming relevant to their lives. The authors offer practical ideas for developing effective programming through collaborating with the community to develop and implement programs, connecting programs to ISTE Standards and curriculum, and addressing curricular and socio-emotional needs. They also share practical advice on budgeting and funding to support programs, scheduling, maximizing the use of technology to aid in programming and much more. The book also explores ways library programs can have a positive impact on school culture, such as addressing the digital divide, inclusion and cultural relevance. This book:
    • Discusses why programming is critical and covers how to develop library programs that are inclusive, culturally relevant and beneficial for students transitioning from high school to college.
    • Shows how library programming aligns with American Association of School Librarians (AASL), Future Ready Librarians framework and the ISTE Standards.
    • Provides checklists and templates to help readers develop their own programming ideas and lesson plans.
    • Offers guidance on building consensus from various stakeholders and involving students, faculty and community in the development of programs.
    • Shares stories from librarians in K-12 and higher education, addressing how they design their programs and offer career and educational paths for students.

Programming for teens and young adults is a catalyst for learning and exploration. The activities and learning experiences shared in this book will empower librarians and deepen student learning.
