Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

Latest Episodes:

Lil Wayne Dec 27, 2023

Show notes

Celebrate 50 episodes of Artist Friendly as Joel Madden is joined by multi-GRAMMY award-winning rapper Lil Wayne.

Wayne, who joined Good Charlotte onstage for “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” at When We Were Young back in October, has shifted from an off-the-wall rapper — always packing a punchline — to an elder statesman who can still spin woozy bars. After releasing his platinum debut album, Tha Block Is Hot, when he was 17, Wayne continued to make his mark with Tha Carter series, which boasts bonafide classics like “A Milli,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” and “Hustler Musik.”

All these years later, Wayne remains inspired, as evinced by his latest project, Welcome 2 Collegrove, a collaborative LP with 2 Chainz, that was released in November.

John O'Callaghan of The Maine Dec 13, 2023

Show notes

This week on Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by John O'Callaghan of The Maine.

The Maine are celebrating a big year. After another unmissable year of Sad Summer, where they headlined (and performed a pretty great cover of Taylor Swift’s “cruel summer”), the band released their ninth studio album, and first self-titled project, in August.

They’re also in the midst of touring their Sweet 16, where they’re reflecting on nearly two decades of being a band by performing sets featuring songs from all of their albums night after night. Grab tickets here.

MAY-A Nov 22, 2023

Show notes

Joel Madden is joined by Australian singer-songwriter MAY-A on this week's episode of Artist Friendly.

Last year, the alt-pop rising star featured on Flume’s dance burner “Say Nothing,” which won triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown. Since then, she’s opened for 5SOS and Nessa Barrett on tour and shared her second EP, Analysis Paralysis. Orville Peck Nov 08, 2023

Show notes

Country artist and songwriter Orville Peck joins Joel Madden on this week's episode of Artist Friendly.

Since his arrival, Peck has become synonymous with the queer side of country music. With his 2019 debut album, Pony, the fringe-masked musician proved that punk and country are alike while rocking a dark baritone and breaking genre conventions. His follow-up, 2022’s Bronco, explored those freedoms more deeply.

From his friendship with drag queen Trixie Mattel to crooning about his lovers, Peck offers necessary representation in country music. You can also catch Peck live at his upcoming Rodeo festival, which serves as a three-day celebration of country music, comedy, drag, and more.

Mickey Guyton Nov 01, 2023

Show notes

Listen as Grammy-nominated country artist Mickey Guyton joins Joel Madden on the latest episode of Artist Friendly.

Guyton represents a new crop of artists coming out of Nashville. Her 2021 debut album, Remember Her Name — titled in tribute to Breonna Taylor, who was killed by Louisville police officers in 2020 — pushed convention as a Black country singer and possessed a sharp, powerful message. In July, she also shared the affectionate single “Nothing Compares To You” with Kane Brown, which was proceeded by a heart-warming music video.
