Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria.

Beginning this week, Coheed will embark on a series of rare full album playthroughs of their 2005 LP, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, which includes Furnace Fest, When We Were Young, and two shows in Australia. Grab tickets here.

Jax Sep 18, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jax.

Whether she’s critiquing Victoria’s Secret in hit pop songs, crafting TikTok clips with Paris Hilton, or posting viral parodies of “Stacy’s Mom,” Jax imbues comedy into everything she touches.

Brought up by musical theater, Jax has parlayed her time onstage into countless funny songs (and even some famous covers) that generate thousands of views.

In a full-circle moment, Jax gets into a proper conversation with Madden after meeting him as a teenager at a Good Charlotte show, where one of her early bands opened a couple of dates during their 2011 tour with Forever the Sickest Kids.

Reggie Watts Sep 11, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Reggie Watts.

Watts is an experimental comedian and musician whose improvised sets are created using just his voice, a keyboard, and a looping machine. Whether he’s beatboxing, pulling off deft impersonations, or switching into different languages, Watts takes pleasure in confusing everyone around him, never performing the same show twice.

His surreal style has led him to several seasons on Comedy Bang! Bang!, guiding the house band for The Late Late Show with James Corden, and hosting the game show Taskmaster — injecting originality and oddness into everything he does.

The comedian also has a new special, Never Mind, available to stream on Veeps, where he transports the audience back to the ’90s from LA’s Regent Theater.

HARDY Sep 04, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by HARDY.

Growing up in the small town of Philadelphia, Mississippi, HARDY was introduced to heavy music in high school. Soon, he fell in love with nü metal and metalcore, including System of a Down, Linkin Park, and August Burns Red.

It’s all culminated in an overlap of country and hardcore within his own music, where HARDY has scratched out a unique space.

His 2023 album, the mockingbird & THE CROW, was split into two halves — country and hard rock — the latter featuring a collaboration with A Day to Remember’s Jeremy McKinnon. Since then, it’s hit No. 1 on the Top Country Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts and rose to No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

Lainey Wilson Aug 28, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Lainey Wilson.

Over the past decade, Wilson has blossomed into a bonafide country star. The Southern-bred singer has written tracks with Luke Combs, made her acting debut in Yellowstone (as well as had her songs featured on its soundtrack), and devised her own genre, “bell bottom country.”

The sound combines Southern rock, soul, and a distinctly Nashvillian POV, where she now resides. That’s best heard on her latest album, Whirlwind, which continues to play with the boundaries of her sound and includes a wistful duet with Miranda Lambert.

Morgan Lander of Kittie Aug 21, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Morgan Lander of Kittie.

Kittie formed in London, Ontario during the late ’90s when the Lander sisters — Morgan and Mercedes — were teenagers.

Near the turn of the millennium, the band unleashed their debut album, Spit, which explored hate, ignorance, and misogyny — and grew into their biggest-selling album.

Earlier this year, Kittie made an explosive comeback with Fire, their first new album in 13 years, that reconciled with their nü-metal beginnings and sharpened their rage.

Jakob Nowell of Sublime Aug 14, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jakob Nowell of Sublime.

After disbanding in 1996, Long Beach ska veterans Sublime reunited at this year’s Coachella — with Nowell filling in for his late father, Bradley.

Between honoring his father’s legacy and creating his own futuristic songs as Jakobs Castle, Nowell has proved that he’s a talented musician who’s determined to keep rock ’n’ roll a family affair.

He’s played a handful of shows in support of this year’s debut album, Enter: The Castle, has plans to revive old Sublime compositions, and gets into a nearly hour-long chat with Madden about his whirlwind year.

Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker Aug 07, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker.

The Orange County post-hardcore unit are spending the rest of the year on the road, having just completed a short run overseas.

In the fall, they’ll pick back up with their world tour, launching Sept. 27 in Dallas.

Shaggy 2 Dope of Insane Clown Posse Jul 31, 2024

Show notes

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Shaggy 2 Dope of Insane Clown Posse.

Given that Violent J sat down with Madden last summer, it’s fitting that the other half of the Detroit horrorcore outfit joins the series — just in time to talk about Gathering of the Juggalos.

Beginning in 2000, the annual festival acts like a modern-day Woodstock, bringing together a community of kindred spirits where “anything can happen — and quite often does.”

The festival will celebrate its 24th year in August, including performances from Rakim, Kim Dracula, DJ Paul, Vended, and beyond.
