    Show notes

In this episode we look back at Friday night's 1-0 defeat to Everton at the Emirates. Another game Arsenal shouldn't have dropped points in, but somehow found a way to do it. We chat about the Bernd Leno error and the VAR decision which overturned the awarding of the penalty given for a 'foul' on Dani Ceballos. Then attention turns to the protests before the game, what sparked them, and the thorny issue of the club's ownership. We then take questions about which goalkeeper should play in the Europa League semi-final against Villarreal, Mikel Arteta's position if things don't go well in the next few weeks, Granit Xhaka at left-back, Thomas Partey's season so far, other billionaires interested in Arsenal and lots more.

    Episode 622 - Legacy Podcast Apr 23, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode I chat to Charles Watts of Goal about the crazy week we've all experienced with regard to the Super League announcement, and then collapse. We discuss Mikel Arteta's responses as he became the first person associated with the club to speak publicly, KSE showing their hand and making their end-game clear, and whether or not this might have an impact on the team when we still have so much to play for this season.

Then it's Akhil Vayas from the AST to discuss the Fans' Forum meeting at which Josh Kroenke was questioned about the Super League, the owner's commitment to the club, potential further attempts to make something like this happen, and lots more.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 411 - 19.04.2021 Apr 19, 2021
    Show notes

This episode is dominated by Arsenal's involvement in the proposed European Super League. We chat about how we feel about the plan itself, and the way that news was delivered with such contempt for fans. There's discussion of the ownership, the executives, what this will mean for fans, for the rest of the season, and how it impacts the games we have left. There's a lot us trying to work this stuff out during the conversation itself, before we do some football stuff surrounding the 1-1 draw with Fulham, including Nketiah's goal, Mat Ryan, Hector Bellerin and lots more as we circle back around to the super league stuff again.

In this episode we enjoy the 3-0 win over Sheffield United, accepting fully that the opposition wasn't great. We chat about Granit Xhaka at left-back and some very interesting heatmaps that generated; the selection of Gabriel Martinelli and his contribution which culminated in a goal; Alexandre Lacazette's double strike; Bukayo Saka at the 10 and Thomas Partey as a one-man midfield. We then take listener questions about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's absence, whether reports of squad unrest stand up to any scrutiny, the team for Thursday's second leg in Prague, Folarin Balogun agreeing a new contract and lots more.

    Episode 621 - A perilous moment Apr 09, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode I'm joined by Philippe Auclair to talk about Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague in the Europa League. We discuss a disappointing result, the way game was managed, substitutions, the overall performance, the reaction to going ahead, the late equaliser we conceded, and what it says about these players. We also discuss Mikel Arteta in the context of this game, and broaden the discussion out into where we're going, compromised principles, the need for a plan and identity, how the club have committed to the Arteta/Edu project, and why, if the owners don't get more hands on, the future could be a bleak one for Arsenal.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 408 - 05.04.2021 Apr 05, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode we look back at the dismal 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. We were missing key players, but that's no excuse for such a limp, lifeless performance in which we barely competed. Mikel Arteta's team selection, tactics and approach are up for discussion, and it's clear the manager got it wrong. We also chat about the impact of losing Kieran Tierney, using Aubameyang on the left, and much more, before taking questions about the captaincy, muddled thinking from Edu and Arteta, realistic expectations for the summer business we need to do, selling Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and beyond.

Episode 620 - Joe on the go Apr 02, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode I'm joined first by Tim Stillman to talk about the big news on the Arsenal Women front – the impending departure of head coach Joe Montemurro. We chat about his time at the club, the reasons for his decision, what he'll leave behind and what comes next in terms of finding a replacement. We also discuss the job of squad management Mikel Arteta has to do between now and the end of the season with, hopefully, another 14 games to play in under two months.

Then, for some pre-Liverpool chat it's Neil Atkinson from the Anfield Wrap to talk about their season, being unable to celebrate being champions, what's going wrong during this campaign, whether they'll have an eye on their Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday, and lots more.

In this Interlull episode there's not a lot going on from an Arsenal perspective, so we take a load of listener questions. Up for discussion, Martin Odegaard; Lucas Torreira as a potential partner for Thomas Partey; priorities when it comes to the transfer market in the summer; what level of confidence we have in Edu; the World Cup in Qatar; Thierry Henry's decision to leave social media; Calum Chambers; enjoyable inconsequential things in football; and loads more, including the now traditional predictions for the final 10 league games of the season.
