    Show notes

On this week's show I'm joined by Andrew Allen to chat about the week's goings-on, and we also take questions from the Arseblog Members on Patreon. On the agenda: our ideal owner for Arsenal, Wilfried Zaha and sacrificing someone to get him, youth prospects like William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli, whether there's a long-term plan or are we just making it up as we go along, how much we'd get for Sead Kolasinac, the Mesut Ozil situation, Laurent Koscielny and lots more – plus a bit of the usual waffle.

    Show notes

On this week's show has misfortune for James sparked our transfer bid for Kieran Tierney? We chat about the Celtic left-back, what kind of a signing he might be, and also discuss which of Sead Kolasinac or Nacho Monreal might leave if we do sign him. We touch on AC Milan's interest in Lucas Torreira and whether there's been encouragement from the player's side, before answering questions about Dani Alves as a possible right back next season, the quality of the sides we're playing in pre-season, players we DON'T want to sign, favourite non-Arsenal goals and even more Magpie Mayhem.

    Episode 530 - Zonal Marking Jun 21, 2019
    Show notes

This week I'm joined by Michael Cox to discuss his new book, Zonal Marking, which tracks the development of European football over the last 30 years. From the Dutch Total Football to Spanish Tiki-Taka and everything inbetween. We chat about Dennis Bergkamp, the role of the number 10, Arsene Wenger's tactical approach, as well as some Pep, Klopp, Unai Emery, and more. There's also a chance to win a copy of the book, and some of the usual waffle in there too.

Follow Michael @Zonal_Marking and if you want to pick up a copy of the book head down to your local independent bookstore and buy it there to support decent business owners who don't treat people like filth and also pay their taxes, but if you have to you can get it from Amazon too.

On this week's show I'm joined by Philippe Auclair to discuss FIFA and some of the wider issues that are affecting football right now – from internationals, World Cups, nation state finances and vested interests who are shaping the game for financial and commercial interests rather than sporting ones. Then we move on to Arsenal to talk about our summer plans, bringing through young players, Unai Emery, our budget, who is going to spend the budget, Philippe provides some insight into some of the French players we've been linked with this summer, and much more.

Then we answer listener questions about right back, the captaincy, missing players who can carry the ball, names on the back of shirts, the Europa League and lots more before James regales us with magpie facts and a magpie jingle.

    Show notes

On this week's show we look back on the Champions League final in Madrid when the bad thing did not happen, and Liverpool beat Sp*rs 2-0 and made them cry. We chat about the game, how enjoyable the result was, and all the rest, before discussing the tragic news of the weekend with former Gunner Jose Antonio Reyes losing his life in a car accident. Then there are loads of listener questions about transfers, summer plans, Calum Chambers, where we need to buy and sell, our footballing identity and lots more.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 290 - 30.05.2019 May 30, 2019
    Show notes

A 4-1 defeat to Chelsea was a chastening and disheartening end to the season. We discuss the game itself, the key moments, a disastrous second half, Unai Emery's decisions, the substitution of Mesut Ozil and all the rest. Then we chat about where it leaves us in the short term, how it might affect what we need to do this summer, and how we're going to do it under the auspices of owner Stan Kroenke who couldn't even be bothered to go to the game last night. There's a lot of introspection, a lot of sighing, plenty of wondering about where we go from here, if Emery is the right man but also an understanding that even if he's not our choices to replace him are likely to be very limited, we talk about the soul and fabric of the club itself, season ticket renewals and tons more.
