EMERGENCY PODCAST: Dalvin Cook Is Now on the New York Jets — Should We Care? Aug 16, 2023

Show notes

The campaign to sign Dalvin Cook came to a close on Monday. The New York Jets added Dalvin Cook on a one-year $8 million deal to pair with Breece Hall in the backfield — what does that mean for the Miami Dolphins?

Miami will lean on Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert throughout the 2023 season, but where does De'Von Achane come into play? How can Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin get into the mix?

Lastly, the Dolphins have roughly $13 million in remaining cap space -- how will the team decide to use that money?

Will Myles Gaskin's Strong Performance Impact The Miami Dolphins Depth Chart? Aug 15, 2023

Show notes

De'Von Achane played 50 percent of Miami's offensive snaps against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night but fifth-year tailback Myles Gaskin stole the spotlight with 57 rushing yards on seven carries. It's clear that coach Mike McDaniel and Miami's offensive staff is working to carve out a role for Achane in his rookie season. That said, can a successful preseason from Gaskin shake up Miami's plans at the running back position — considering Salvon Ahmed played just five snaps?

Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. will carry the workload in Miami's backfield but Gaskin looked like the perfect "flex seal" running back to help the team overcome the injuries that occur while playing a 17-game season.

What Did We Learn From Miami's 19-3 Loss to the Atlanta Falcons? Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins struggled to score in Friday's 19-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. That said, we did get a better idea of what coach Mike McDaniel is looking to find in the 90-man roster. News broke that Cam Smith isn't expected to miss an extended period but may miss the start of the 2023 regular season. Jaylen Waddle and Robbie Chosen are also dealing with injuries but neither are expected to be serious.

Miami gave rookie running back De'Von Achane a heavy workload and delivered in the passing game, what will coach McDaniel and the coaching staff expect from the first-year tailback? Myles Gaskin made an impact on limited plays while River Cracraft had a quiet night despite leading the team with 42 snaps played at wide receiver. Defensively, Brandon Pili and Jaylen Twyman made noise in the trenches while a new cornerback made his case with two passes defended in 31 snaps played.

Erik Ezukanma, Emmanuel Ogbah and Other Players Who Made a Strong Impression Against The Falcons Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

The score didn't matter but players saw their stock rise with a strong performance against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Emmanuel Ogbah played just 11 snaps but showcased that he was ready to return from injury with two tackles and two quarterback hits. In the secondary, both Cam Smith and Noah Igbinoghene played well — what will the depth chart look like as the team looks to overcome the injury to Jalen Ramsey?

Offensively, Erik Ezukanma touched the ball five times on his 26 snaps and was responsible for Miami's longest play of the night, a 39-yard rushing play. Chris Brooks made the most of hs snaps at running back while Mike White and Skylar Thompson struggled to move the ball at quarterback. What's next for Miami's offense?

Which Players Had The Heaviest Workload Against The Atlanta Falcons? Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

The final score of a preseason game doesn't matter, but four quarters on the football field gives us an idea of what a coaching staff is trying to learn in training camp. The Miami Dolphins struggled to score points against the Atlanta Falcons but 66 offensive snaps provided hints to what the coaching staff is looking for from some young offensive players.

De'Von Achane played 50 percent of the team's snaps against the Falcons and touched the ball 14 times. Wide receivers River Cracraft and Cedrick Wilson Jr. combined for two receptions — what will Miami choose to do at the position?

Dissecting the First Miami Dolphins Depth Chart of 2023 Aug 11, 2023

Show notes

Early in the preseason, it's easy to overreact to each bit of information released about a player or team. The Miami Dolphins released the first depth chart of 2023 earlier this week but did it offer any hints to what coach Mike McDaniel is thinking?

Larnel Coleman was the backup left tackle on Miami's initial depth chart last year but things look much different this season.
Will Isaiah Wynn stay at guard or get a shot at right tackle?
Preston Williams was a second-team receiver on the depth chart last preseason — what does that say for players like Cedrick Wilson Jr., River Cracraft, and Robbie Chosen?
Can Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed hold onto roster spots?

Previewing Miami's First Game of the Preseason + News & Notes From Practice Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

It may seem hard to believe but the Miami Dolphins return to action this weekend with the season's first game — a preseason showdown with the Atlanta Falcons at Hard Rock Stadium. The Dolphins and Falcons have practiced together throughout the week, offering both sides the opportunity to face some fresh faces for an extended period of time.

It's clear that Miami's offense had a "dingers only" mindset early in camp as the balls are flying against Atlanta's thin group at cornerback. It sounds like Vic Fangio has the defense ready to erupt — who are some early risers early in camp?

What To Watch For When The Miami Dolphins Host the Atlanta Falcons Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins have until Aug. 29 to solidify opening day's 53-man roster and Friday's bout with the Atlanta Falcons is the first of three major tests for 90 players hoping to stick with the team. Coach Mike McDaniel wasn't clear on if Tua Tagovailoa and the starters will play on Friday, but there is still much to learn about the 2023 Miami Dolphins.

Miami has question marks at left guard, right tackle, and cornerback — some of those questions could be answered against the Falcons.

Is Isaiah Wynn ready to take over at left guard?
De'Von Achane returning kicks?
Who wins a heated race at wide receiver?
Could Skylar Thompson be second on the depth chart to begin the year?

What Have We Learned From Miami's Joint Practices with Atlanta? Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons spent the week battles in joint practices ahead of Friday night's game at hard rock stadium. The Falcons offer a unique challenge as they're a team built in the trenches and on the ground. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are a finesse bunch flying around the football field.

The joint practices have allowed the Dolphins to focus on their weaknesses in the trenches and at linebackers while Tua Tagovailoa and the offense have been hit-or-miss against the Atlanta defense. Coach Mike McDaniel didn't seem to like Miami's effort in the first practice with the Falcons and held back on awarding an orange jersey for the first time this year.

Isaiah Wynn and Robbie Chosen stock looks ready to explode — which players are a step behind early in training camp?

Miami Dolphins Scrimmage At Hard Rock Stadium — One Step Closer To Football! Aug 07, 2023

Show notes

With eight training camp practices in the books, the Miami Dolphins scrimmaged in front of fans at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. The day was won by the defense as Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler, and Raekwon Davis all had big days in the trenches. That said, Miami also worked out former Eagles tackle Marvin Wilson. Tyreek Hill faced newcomer Eli Apple for the first time while the offense struggled to do much against Vic Fangio's defense. Terron Armstead, De'Von Achane, Terron Armstead, Malik Reed, and Trill Williams all missed the scrimmage — when should we worry?
