Miami at Jacksonville: Everything We Learned About the Dolphins Throughout the Preseason Aug 29, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins saw the 2023 preseason come to a close with a 31-18 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night. The game was called early after Daewood Davis was carted off the field with a head injury. Davis has since been released from the hospital following the injury.

From running backs to receivers and depth on the offensive line, Saturday's game told us plenty when preparing to watch the 2023 Dolphins. Who will take over as QB No. 2? Will Miami keep five running backs or decide to keep extra receivers? Looking at the defense, did someone finally take control at defensive tackle and safety? Tune in and find out!

The Miami Dolphins Need An Answer At Safety Aug 29, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins have one of the better safeties in the league with Jevon Holland starting in the secondary. The issue, however, is that football teams usually start with two players at the position. On top of that, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme can leverage a third safety when at its best.

The Dolphins need to uncover answers at safety as Brandon Jones works back from an injury that sidelined him for most of the 2022 campaign. Miami signed DeShon Elliot in free agency and Verone McKinley III helped the team overcome injuries last year — is it enough?

Should The Miami Dolphins Risk Placing Salvon Ahmed or Myles Gaskin on the Practice Squad? Aug 29, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins entered free agency with no running backs under contract but re-signed Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin, and Salvon Ahmed — last year's entire running back room — to new contracts during the offseason. The Dolphins also added rookie De'Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Ignoring a possible Jonathan Taylor trade — who will join Mostert, Wilson, and Achane on Miami's 53-man roster? Ahmed shined with a handful of big runs throughout the preseason but Gaskin showcased a level of consistency any play-caller would like in the backfield. What about the hard-hitting undrafted rookie Chris Brooks?

Miami Dolphins Close The Preseason By Signing DT Zach Sieler to Three-Year Contract Extension Aug 28, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins ended the preseason with a lopsided loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars but began the regular season with a major win. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that the Dolphins inked defensive tackle Zach Sieler to a three-year contract extension worth up to $38.65 million.

Sieler stuck with the Dolphins and signed a three-year contract extension in Nov. 2020. He set career highs with 70 tackles, two forced fumbles, and four passes defended in 2022. Sieler also earned 3.5 sacks in two of the last three seasons.

Sieler, Christian Wilkins, and Connor Williams each wanted new contracts this offseason but the former Baltimore Ravens DT may be the only one to ink a new deal before the 2023 season begins. What does that signal about Wilkins and his future in Miami?

Projecting Miami's 53-Man Roster 2.0 w/ @BrianCatNFL! Aug 25, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins have just three preseason games before trimming the roster from 90 players to just 53. The Dolphins have been determined to run the football throughout two preseason games, is this a sign to come in the regular season? Could Miami somehow keep five running backs with this focus on running the football?

Defensively, the Dolphins hope someone will step up at defensive tackle and safety — could general manager Chris Grier choose to find answers elsewhere? There are questions surrounding the roster, but time to find answers is running out!

Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). After helping project the 53-man roster earlier this month, Jake is joined by Cat (@BrianCatNFL) for this episode of ADP.

Acorns and Other Potential Practice Squad Players for the Miami Dolphins Aug 25, 2023

Show notes

Injuries are virtually guaranteed throughout a 17-game season, making depth vital to a football team's success. The practice squad doesn't feature Pro Bowl talent, but it does offer franchises a bit of flexibility when forecasting hurdles down the road.

Players with experience in the league are now eligible to be signed on a practice squad, will Miami choose to stash receivers instead of adding depth behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the active roster? Should the Dolphins continue to stock up on cornerbacks?

How does a Jonathan Taylor Trade Impact's Miami's Depth Chart? Aug 25, 2023

Show notes

Jonathan Taylor rushed for 1,811 yards in 2021 and Miami Dolphins' general manager Chris Grier believes he could be the missing piece of the team's offense. The Dolphins flirted with four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook throughout the offseason and have now set sights on the former All-Pro out of Wisconsin.

How would acquiring Taylor impact Miami's depth chart? Would either Raheem Mostert or Jeff Wilson Jr. be headed back to the Colts in the trade? On top of that, is it possible that the Dolphins could open up cap space with the move?

Diagnosing Miami's Depth Concerns with AllDolphins.com's Omar Kelly! Aug 24, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins have completed two preseason games and the team's opening-day roster still features question marks. AllDolphins.com's Omar Kelly (@OmarKelly) joins the show to share his notes from training camp. The Dolphins tried to avoid last year's mistakes by signing additional cornerbacks this offseason but things haven't gone according to plans — who will step up until Jalen Ramsey returns?

Vic Fangio's defense features a handful of studs but depth remains a concern, especially at linebacker. While the Dolphins did sign David Long Jr. and re-sign Andrew Van Ginkel. is it enough to make it throughout the season?

Kelly highlights Austin Jackson for his work throughout camp and shares his thoughts on Miami's chances of signing Jonathan Taylor.

Do The Miami Dolphins Actually Have a Shot at Landing Running Back Jonathan Taylor? Aug 24, 2023

Show notes

The Colts are fielding inquiries and trade offers for Jonathan Taylor and the Miami Dolphins are in the mix. After months of Dalvin Cook rumors it seems like general manager Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel have set their sights on a new top running back. Taylor and the Colts haven't agreed on a long-term deal, but how much would the Dolphins have to give up?

The rumor is that the Colts want a first-round pick — could this be an opportunity for the Dolphins to shed some contracts in order to avoid future headaches?
