In our latest Voices of Lupus podcast, we had a very interesting discussion about lupus research with Dr. Robert Carter. As Deputy Director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), Dr. Carter is an expert in the fields of rheumatology and immunology, with a background both as a researcher and a physician. We talked with him about the role of NIAMS as a research institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and he explained why NIAMS has been interested in lupus research as well as why some areas of lupus research are of particular interest to scientists.
