Ep. 825: 400,000 Feet of Climbing in One Month - Chris Fisher Apr 26, 2022
    Show notes

Chris’ feat of climbing 400k feet in a single month took place primarily on one 5-mile route in Utah.

The life path that Chris has been on to get to this point of continuing to go for big and hard objectives is filled with darkness and many failures along the way. From losing friends to drugs, mental health, and quitting during Navy Seal training a few years ago.

Pushing Chris’ limits both physical and mental is what he lives for and this is just the beginning of a long career of doing big things in the mountains.

You can follow Chris as he is in the middle of skiing all of Colorado’s 14ers!

    Show notes

BIG NEWS IN THE SHOW NOTES! - Come see us in the Denver area this Saturday!

When a life-altering car accident upended Jason Hardrath's world, doctors said he'd never run again. Seven years later he has the most FKTs (Fastest Known Times) of anyone on earth. Now, he's on a journey to be the first person ever to set 100 FKT records.

After pouring over different options for routes and peaks he came across a challenge he couldn't resist, Washington's Bulger List, the highest 100 peaks in the state, a lifetime challenge for most that attempt it but Jason, being a teacher, only had 50 days in the summer to complete it.

Ep. 820: 75 Years Young and Still Sailing Around the World - Revisited - Lin Pardey Apr 07, 2022
    Show notes

When Lin was tired of the “college type" guys that she was always surrounded by, she decided to get to know a couple of sailors as an outlet from the mundaneness of campus life. She quickly fell in love with one of the guys, Larry, who was completely different from the folks she spent her days in class with. Lin was eager to learn so he began to teach her how to sail.

Once she was comfortable on the water they began helping other folks deliver their boats around the area and they also began building their own. Not long after, the idea to live full-time on the 29-foot sailing vessel was born.

Fast forward 47 years, 210,000 miles, and 77 countries later and we have Lin now sailing around the world on her own and having written dozens of books about her and Larry’s epic life. Lin has a lot to teach us in today’s episode and I encourage you to check out her many books.

Ep. 819: Solo Circumnavigation of Lake Winnipeg at 18 Years Old - Revisited - Alex Martin Mar 31, 2022
    Show notes

Originally aired on October 29, 2018

Alex is not your typical 18 years old. Instead of setting out to trade school, college, or hanging out at home after the summer of high school graduation, Alex decided he wanted to do something adventurous to transition into this new phase of life called adulthood. That desire led him to kayak 1,750 km around the edges of Lake Winnipeg, something incredibly daunting considering the remoteness of much of the lake as well as the unpredictable weather.

Alex is incredibly articulate for his age and understands that this trip was an amazing opportunity to show the world the importance of keeping resources like Lake Winnipeg free of pollution, invasive species, and a refuge for the human soul. He’s already an experienced adventurer and we’re super excited that Alex joined us for this interview as we’re sure he’ll be an even bigger name in the outdoor community very soon.

Ep. 818: Life Lived Wild - Rick Ridgeway Mar 29, 2022
    Show notes

From “Life Lived Wild: Adventures at the Edge of the Map":

By the time he was thirty, Rick Ridgeway had gone on more adventures than most people do in an entire lifetime and calculates that he’s spent over five years of his life sleeping in tents. Called “the real Indiana Jones” by Rolling Stone magazine, Ridgeway doesn't shy away from unknown territory. In fact, he seeks it.

Ridgeway is recognized as one of the world’s foremost mountaineers. He was part of the 1978 team that were the first Americans to summit K2, the world's second-highest mountain, and he has climbed new routes and explored little-known regions on six continents. What really comes alive in Life Lived Wild are his relationships with his fellow travelers, such as Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, The North Face founder Doug Tompkins, and filmmaker Jimmy Chin. Some companions don’t make the return journey.

Ridgeway is also an environmentalist, writer, photographer, filmmaker, and businessman. For fifteen years beginning in 2005 he oversaw environmental affairs at the outdoor clothing company Patagonia and served as the VP of Environmental Initiatives. He has authored six books and dozens of magazine articles and produced or directed many documentary films. He was honored by National Geographic with their Lifetime Achievement in Adventure Award and was awarded the Lowell Thomas Award by the Explorers’ Club. Ridgeway serves on the boards of Tompkins Conservation and the Turtle Conservancy. He lives in Ojai, California.

    Ep. 817: Family of 6 Thru-Hiking the PCT - Revisited - Strawbridge Family Mar 25, 2022
    Show notes

    Originally aired February 17, 2020.

When a crippling amount of debt kept the Strawbridge family from going on family vacations, they quickly began looking for cheap ways to still enjoy an experience together. That necessity led them to camping and hiking. After realizing that this type of “vacation” was more rewarding than a tradition trip, they decided to go all in for an experience of a lifetime to celebrate getting back on track financially.

That led to the idea of thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail as a family.
