    Addict II Athlete Podcast

    The Addict II Athlete podcast is hosted by Coach Blu Robinson, a licensed clinical mental health counselor and substance abuse counselor who has worked in the field since 2001. He is a fantastic public speaker, coach, and therapist who works with many individuals, youth, couples, and families addressing issues like addiction, trauma, communication, parenting, and more. Blu hopes to provide listeners with the skills and game plans for anyone to turn their mess into their message of hope and a bright future. The AIIA podcast is here to inspire anyone. We share recovery stories, education, life tips, address teen and parenting issues, and more. Our topics address all walks of life but also addiction recovery with tips and fundamentals for those seeking recovery as well as the family and friends of someone who is. Addict II Athlete removes the negative stigma of addiction and mental health and creates a foundation of potential and support. Addict to Athlete is a nonprofit team of peers, friends, and family who have a desire to create a new way of life. By knowing an addict, having been affected by addiction, or being in recovery yourselves, Team Addict II Athlete is here to help. We have come together to help one another with the outcome from all angles of addiction using our Erase and Replace Philosophy. Erase negative behaviors by replacing the void left behind with health, service, support system, and recreation. We are here to carry the message of recovery and change the outlook of addiction. Our goal is to spread the message of recovery to the addict and family of the addict who still struggles with addiction and to show that we have discovered a more excellent way to live. Moving from Addict to Athlete, dismisses the old way of thinking that recovery must remain anonymous as you become an Agent of Sobriety and a Champion of recovery.     Understanding Anniversary Reactions Aug 10, 2020

    Today Coach Blu and Athletic Director Marissa process traumatic anniversaries. We have all have times in our lives when an experience leaves behind memories and feelings that are brought back every calendar year or, through every benchmark forecasted. The anniversary reaction is the annual reminder of trauma or loss, such as the death of a beloved, a nightmarish experience, or an accident. Yet, regardless of what happened, the anniversary reaction is a distinctively timed, emotionally tragic, hit to your overall well being. They discuss strategies to help cope with the anniversaries as well as work past them.

    Sudden Sam McDowell Jul 20, 2020

    Today Coach Blu speaks to Sam McDowell, a Major League Baseball starting pitcher from 1961 to 1975, most notably for the Cleveland Indians.

    Following his "retirement", McDowell's drinking increased to the point where it cost him his marriage. His wife left him, taking their two children with her, leaving him desolate and broke. Eventually, McDowell checked himself into Rehab, and after repaying his debts, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned associate degrees in sports psychology and addiction. McDowell also works as a consultant with the Baseball Assistance Team (BAT) and the Major League Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA). You don't want to miss this one.

    Today Coach Blu talks to Tim McDowell. Tim pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League from 1988 through 1991. Tim is a masters level therapist and clinical director of the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.), formed in 1986 by a group of former Major League Baseball players. B.A.T. was founded to confidentially help members of the Baseball Family who were in need of assistance with nowhere else to turn.     Today's podcast features Ultra Runner and friend of the program Carl Adams from England. Carl is the co-founder of Primal Roots - a community recovery group based in Kent, UK. Sober since August 26, 2018. Ultrarunner: 50 miles, 100 milers, and the 215 Race Across Scotland. Carl ran bars for 10 years.
