By knowing an addict, having been affected by addiction, or being in recovery yourselves, Team Addict II Athlete is here to help. We have come together to help one another with the outcome from all angles of addiction using our Erase and Replace Philosophy. Erase negative behaviors by replacing the void left behind with health, service, support system, and recreation. We are here to carry the message of recovery and change the outlook of addiction. Our goal is to spread the message of recovery to the addict and family of the addict who still struggles with addiction and to show that we have discovered a more excellent way to live. Moving from Addict to Athlete, dismisses the old way of thinking that recovery must remain anonymous as you become an Agent of Sobriety and a Champion of recovery. Exercising Recovery with Nicole Golden Nov 14, 2022
    Show notes

Today Coach Blu speaks to Nicole Golden who is a NASM Master Trainer, CES, BCS, FNS and AFAA certified group fitness instructor and Master of Science in Applied Exercise Science/Sports Nutrition. Nicole shares the research and the importance of using exercise in your recovery. We all know exercise is a powerful depression fighter for several reasons. Most importantly, it promotes all kinds of changes in the brain, including neural growth, and new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well-being. It also releases endorphins, powerful chemicals in your brain that energize your spirits and make you feel good. Finally, exercise can also serve as a distraction, allowing you to find some quiet time to break out of the cycle of negative thoughts that feed depression and addiction.

Exercise can be a valuable medicine in the treatment of substance use disorders. Learn about the effectiveness of exercise as an adjunct therapy for drug/alcohol use disorders in this episode. Find out more about her business https://fwfwellness.com/

Understanding Triggers, Cravings and Using Dreams Apr 12, 2021
    Show notes

In this week's podcast Coach Blu and Athletic Director Marissa discuss triggers, cravings, and using dreams. Triggers and warning signs of relapse are always important to pay attention to if you or a loved one is struggling with addiction. A trigger is a stimulus that can cause a craving and lead to behavioral responses. Triggers often come at the beginning of a behavioral cycle; prompting a specific thought, feeling and a subsequent behavior chain. Warning Signs become present when a person stops focusing on recovery or begins fantasizing about the days when they were using, this is when relapses may occur. Some warning signs typically are experienced when romanticizing about past substance use, believing you can use again without becoming addicted or being able to quit on your own, and could include reconnecting with old unhealthy relationships. These in combination with cravings and without proper help could result in relapse or continued use.
As we explore using dreams we dive into what our body and subconscious will do to remind you how you used to cope with stress, even when sobriety has been achieved. The using dream typically awakens that sleeping addiction and can have emotional responses as a result. The good news is, using dreams are an indicator that you're on the right path, that you're choosing, and being very aware that returning to substance use will not solve your problems, and that your body is re-learning how to cope with stress. It is a sign that your brain is healing.
