Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: Dune

We couldn't choose a title so... both!

Surprising probably no one, Laura Marie loves Dune. Surprising probably no one, Jessica Marie had never read Dune. One of the most famous Sci-Fi books of all time and probably one of the most intimidating books to tackle, Dune is a lot of things to a lot of people. Mostly men. What is Dune to ACOFAE? Women. Powerful women. Join Laura Marie and Jessica Marie as they jump into Dune and wonder why men are gatekeeping a story about religion, women, politics and terraforming? Your savior's name is Paul. Sit down.

BIG. WORM.

042. Romeo + Juliet: F**k you DHL. Oct 11, 2021

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet

Do other versions of this story exist? Sure. Do we awknowledge them? Debatable.
THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY. This is a tragedy people! The miscommunication trope at it's finest, this version of Romeo and Juliet is part of the reason why we are the way we are. The music, the delivery, the water, and the religion, oh and also Paul Rudd and John Leguizamo transport us into a modernish world where there are consequences for your actions. Even for the lovers. This is not a love story.

No spoilers in this episode.

041. The Craft: "We are the weirdos mister." Oct 04, 2021

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: The Craft

Kicking off Spooky Season '21 Laura Marie and Jessica Marie are doing a re-watch of the cult classic "The Craft". Is there anything better than 90's fashion? No? Ok good glad we're all in agreement. Female friendship and the idea of female empowerment only if you're a good girl is front and center here as is the idea that "good for her" has limits. How many times did you try to do the pencil thing!? Did you know her hair was a wig?!

We are the weridos mister.

Mentions: ACOMAF, Serpent & Dove, The Priory of the Orange Tree, Scream, 90210, Charmed, Sex Education

CW/TW: Discussions surrounding suicide, sexual assault, mental health, sex work, racism, bullying and harassment, eating disorders

More than the music. More than the dancing. More than the costumes. Moulin Rouge is so much more than a movie. It's a life changing experience that seems new each time you watch it. Join Laura Marie and Jessica Marie as they re-watch one of their favorite movies and discover that watching as a kid and watching as an adult is a brutal thing. Ugly crying until you can't cry anymore is cathartic right!?
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: Kaven is back (part 2)

We had so much fun with Kaven it ended up being too long and too chaotic for one episode. Here is part 2 of Kaven discussing TVD and giving some hot takes, some ship opinions, and letting us know exactly what she would say to Julie Plec if they were to ever meet. Oh and that question from last week is answered. Oh and we had to bleep some stuff. OH and we may have gone off the rails at the end a bit. But we love each other. Women supporting women.

Spoilers include The Vampire Diaries, Loki, Wandavision,

036. Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments 1-3: Nothing less than 7 inches. Aug 30, 2021

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones | City of Ashes | City of Glass

This is Jessica Marie's first experience with the world of Shadowhunters and Laura Marie did the work to make sure that she was able to navigate these admittedly, not so great first 3 books. Things were spoiled for Jessica Marie so she could focus on everything except THAT, things were explained, and then the show was watched… Join Laura Marie and Jessica Marie as they jump into the massive world of Shadowhunters and try to remember that we were all the "pick me" character once.

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast presents: Disney's Moana

There are some movies that hit harder when you watch them as an adult and some movies that leave you speechless. Moana leaves you speechless and ugly crying. Whether it's the music, the animation, or the message that you could do it all along, this movie does something.
