    Show notes

We all know that junk food is bad for us, but what about junk news and social media?

These days, it's getting pretty nasty out there. The nightly news cycle of local crimes, endless stream of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram updates and feeds, celebrity gossip, reality TV shows, trendy clickbait articles. The list goes on and on.

In this age of information overload, your life can be filled with irrelevant or unnecessary information in an instant. And that just clouds your mind for the rest of the day.

Returning to the show to help us simplify our lives at a very opportune time as we get this new year off to a fresh start, we're here with Mr. James Clear.

Alright, let's go hang out with James.

Andrew “Spudfit” Taylor: How to Conquer Food Addiction & What Happens When You Eat Nothing But Potatoes Dec 27, 2018
    Show notes

What would happen if you ate nothing but potatoes for a year?

Believe it or not, today's guest did just that. He's a former junior Australian champion marathon kayaker, and also a high school PE teacher who embarked upon a quest to overcome food addiction, anxiety, and depression by eating only potatoes for an entire year.

At first, I was not sure what to think about all of this. But trust me, there is a lot of wisdom that today's guest has for you.

One thing that comes up for a lot of folks is the trouble they have with moderation. If you have a whole chocolate bar, can you eat just one square? If you feel like you eat that one slice of pizza or a few chips and then you have to eat the whole bag, then definitely pay attention to this episode.

You don't have to eat only potatoes for a year. It's really not about the potatoes, but listen to what he has to say. If you've ever struggled with cravings, moderation, or food addiction, this episode is definitely for you.

On this show with Andrew Taylor, we're chatting about:

    • Overcoming food addiction
    • How to practice moderation, especially if you're someone who can't practice moderation normally
    • Why we don't need to be afraid of carbs
    • Why potatoes are actually surprisingly nutritious
    • And tons more...

Let's go hang out with Andrew.

This is a throwback episode of the Fat-Burning Man show from 2012. But just because it’s not new, doesn’t mean it’s no relevant. In fact, I think a lot of listeners really need this message more than ever. Nora certainly spreads a lot of wisdom.

Max Lugavere: How Fasting Affects Brain Health & The Dangers of Air Pollution Dec 14, 2018
    Show notes

When was the last time you checked how safe your air is?

With all of the wild fires, increases in industrial pollution, increases in population—not just in the U.S. but around the world—more than half of us are breathing dirty, polluted air, especially if you're living anywhere close to an urban area, or an industrial area.

One of the most concerning things about breathing polluted air, is that it not only shaves years off of our lives, but it also decreases cognitive performance and actually makes us less intelligent.

When we're breathing polluted air, when we're eating polluted food or drinking polluted water, our livers are basically on overdrive and our bodies have to work harder to filter through a lot more junk.

Returning to the show today to help us put it all together is Mr. Max Lugavere. Max is a filmmaker, Health and Science journalist, and now the New York Times best selling author of Genius Foods.

Max has personally been touched by dementia in his own life, and has made it his mission to spread the word about how you can prevent a lot of these horrible things from happening.

On this show with Max you're about to learn:

    • How intermittent fasting affects your brain
    • How to get smarter over time (instead of dumber)
    • The dangers of air pollution and what you can do about it
    • The difference between a wild banana and a cultivated banana
    • And tons more...

Let's go hang out with Max.

David Smith: Transferable Skills for Athletes & How to Compete When You’re Not a Spring Chicken Anymore Nov 29, 2018
    Show notes

Can being athletic help you be a better singer and artist? Conversely, can dancing make you a better athlete?

Oftentimes people tend to compartmentalize their lives and don't make the connection between art, athletics, mindset and overall health, but when we take a more holistic view of our lives and our health, we start to realize how interconnected all of this is.

Joining me on the show today, I'm very excited to say, is my good friend, Mr. David Smith.

David is a coach, competitive athlete, Dartmouth and Harvard alum, artist, singer, a super freak of a man—and I mean that in a good way—and dear old friend. If you listen till the end of this episode, you can even hear a clip of us singing together on a long lost Abel James album from years ago.

On this show with David, you're about to learn:

    • How being athletic could help you be a better singer and artist
    • Meditative aspects of creative or physical work
    • What it's like to compete on a national and international level
    • How to recover from serious injury
    • And tons more...

Let's go hang out with Dave.

Eliza Kingsford: Food Addiction, Eating Disorders & Why The Average American Woman Tries 61 Different Diets Nov 22, 2018
    Show notes

Did you know that on average American women try 61 different diets over the course of their lives? 61 diets.

In the 1950s, around 10% of Americans were overweight. Taking current trends into account, though, it's predicted that by the year 2030, 85% of Americans will be overweight.

That is shocking and completely avoidable.

Imagine that, from 1 out of 10 people being overweight, to 9 out of 10 people. In just a few years from now. It's not progress, I can tell you that much.

But to help us sort it all out, we're here today with Eliza Kingsford.

Eliza is a Licensed Psychotherapist and also the author of Brainpowered Weightloss. She specializes in body image issues, weight management, eating disorders and food addiction.

In this episode with Eliza Kingsford, you're about to learn about:

    • How extremes become normal when they're sensationalized
    • Problems with eating at restaurants
    • Why you shouldn't give up vegetables for good
    • And tons more...

Let's go hang out with Eliza.
