The Movistar team completely relied on Aquilo for the entire Tour de France. They have 9 riders who used the cooling system for all 21 stages (some of them several times a day).? Each rider had his own pants.

Segment Two:?Put your best foot forward: why walking is good for you

Andrea Rosmann,?DPT, ATC, Clinic Director For ATI Physical Therapy?talks about the benefits of?walking as a form of exercise.

In our journey to get healthy, the majority of us have probably tried multiple types of exercises in an attempt to find some that not only work, but are sustainable.? The biggest challenge to getting in shape is finding a workout routine we?re willing to stick with and that truly provides us with some much needed health benefits.? While there are many exercises that can prove beneficial, whether or not we like them is a different story and it varies from person to person.

Last September, Harvard Medical School posted an article about 5 of the best exercises we can ever do.? These workouts all provide a range of health benefits and can be done regardless of age or fitness level:

    1. Swimming
    2. Tai Chi
    3. Strength Training
    4. Walking
    5. Kegel Exercises (for men and women)

Of these exercises, walking seems to be the one that is the easiest for almost anyone to do, makes us look and feel better, and doesn?t require any additional equipment.

Walking as exercise can not only be used to help us meet the recommended weekly activity level of 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise, but according to the Mayo Clinic brisk walks help us:

    • Maintain a healthy weight
    • Prevent or manage conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
    • Strengthen bones
    • Lift mood
    • Improve balance and coordination

On top of these benefits, walking is much easier on the joints than many other exercises.? And according to an article in Tech Times, even though running may be better for bone health and weight lifting better for strength training, walking still increases circulation, improves memory, increases growth of new neurons and increases creativity.

Combine the fact that almost anyone can walk for exercise with all of the benefits associated with it, it?s no wonder walking always makes the lists for the best forms of exercise.? So the next time you need to get in a workout and you don?t have any equipment, try going for a walk.

Andrea Rosmann?graduated from Northwestern University in 2010 with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. She received her B.S. in Athletic Training from Boston University, while also participating as a coxswain for the rowing team. Experienced in treating a variety of orthopedic injuries with special interest in sport injuries and jump re-training.

    Segment?One:?THE MICHAEL COLLINS?Story

Coach Jim Collins,?Founder of MCStrong, the Michael Collins Foundation talks about his personal experience and the importance of organ and tissue donation and the planned foundation events for funding initiatives.

    mc strong

Michael was a middle infielder and pitcher at Normal West High School when they won back-to-back Big 12 conference championships in 2009 and 2010. He earned All-Conference recognition in both 2009 and 2010. He was selected to the Illinois Coaches Association All-Star games in 2010 and was a member of the Big 12 All-Academic team in 2010.?Michael played two years of college baseball at Heartland Community College and made consecutive trips to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, OK in 2011 and 2012. The 2011 team was the first Heartland team to advance to the World Series.

Michael ?MC? Collins was 22 years old.?As a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Exercise Science, he was just two days away from coaching first base on opening day of his second season as an assistant coach with his Dad at University High School.

On March 28th Michael enjoyed a formal sorority dance at ISU and an evening out with several friends. They did the right thing, calling a designated driver for a ride home and using their seatbelts. Unfortunately across town, a 37 year old mom, already on probation for her 4th felony, made a much different decision. She got behind the wheel of her 2014 Camaro with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit for driving, and with no regard for human life, hurtled the car down a high-traffic street at speeds exceeding 130 mile per hour leading to a?horrific crash.

In life there are givers and there are takers. Michael was a giver. He signed up to be an organ donor not because his parents or anyone told him to, but because it was simply the right thing to do. He gave even in his death. His organ and tissue donation through the Gift of Hope have had a positive impact on hundreds of lives. His liver, pancreas and kidneys live on. He even restored sight to a blind woman in New York. He is our hero.

The EIM Solution is the practical application of integrating physical activity into healthcare provider services and linking patients to evidence-based community programs.? The integration of the EIM Solution is achieved through the following steps:

    • Embedding a physical activity vital sign (PAVS) into electronic medical records (EMRs)
    • Developing a national network of evidence-based PA programs and resources
    • Providing a clinical decision support system linking clinical and community so HCPs can offer behavioral PA counseling and refer patients to fulfill their PA “prescription” in the community

Three different types of stakeholders are paramount in bringing about the vision of EIM and integrating its scientifically proven benefits into healthcare systems:

    1. Healthcare Providers
    2. Exercise Professionals
    3. Community Members and Resources

    Segment One:?Brain Network Activation? Testing

Mike Palm, Manager of Athletico?Concussion?Management Services discussing the use of BNA (Brain Network Activation) testing to measure brain function; the importance of proper concussion diagnosis and management, risk of not reporting and sustaining a recurring concussion; removing?from and returning to play; avoiding permanent brain damage.

A Brain Network Activation? (BNA) Test uses an advanced software program to process measured brain activity. This cutting edge technology allows us to gain full insight into brain function as the test reads, and measures all neural activity. This test is performed preseason to understand the individual?s typical brain function.

Watch the video below to see the BNA Test technology in action!

Advantages of Brain Network Activation? Testing

    • Allows physicians to better understand a brain injury such as a concussion
    • Detects and measures actual brain activation
    • Reassurance for return to participation decisions
    • First-of-its kind, groundbreaking technology that measures brain function
    • Athletico is the only Brain Network Activation? Testing Center in Illinois
    • Annual preseason test used to compare a change in brain activity following a brain injury
    • Cleared by the FDA, unlike many concussion testing protocols on the market.

    The BNA Testing Process

The BNA Test process starts with scheduling your BNA Test. The next step is then receiving the test at one of Athletico?s BNA? Testing Centers. Once the BNA Test is complete, your Brain Network Activation (BNA) report is stored in a secure,?de-identified cloud-based database, that can be accessed by a physician if a brain injury were to occur.
