Was I In A Cult?

Hosted by Tyler Measom and Liz Iacuzzi, Was I In A Cult? is a documentary-style podcast showcasing individuals who have been in, and most importantly, successfully left a cult. Told first-hand by the experiencer themself, these are raw, riveting and inspirational tales of what it means to be a survivor. Using levity and info-tainment, the show humanizes the cultic experience and may leave some of our listeners asking themselves…“Wait…Was I In A Cult?” If you or someone you know has been in a cult and want to share your story, contact us at info@wasiinacult.com. Suspect

Suspect is an investigative series about mislaid justice and the kinds of weighty decisions that detectives, lawyers, and jurors make every day - decisions that, once made, are almost impossible to reverse.

Season 3: Five Shots in the Dark follows Leon Benson, who spent 24 years in an Indiana state prison for the 1998 murder of a young man named Kasey Schoen. His conviction hinged on the testimony of two eyewitnesses – but what if their memories turned out to be wrong? And what if the people who knew what really happened had never been allowed to speak? Suspect Season 3: Five Shots in the Dark is the story of two victims: one murdered, one sentenced to life. Follow host Matt Shaer and attorney Lara Bazelon as they investigate how the justice system failed both Leon and Kasey, and who the real killer might be. Join this unprecedented look inside the attempt to overturn a wrongful conviction and find out if justice will finally be served.

The Worst Podcast

Celebrities are always talking about their bests. Now hear them at their worst.

Join award-winning filmmaker and noted curmudgeon Alan Zweig for refreshingly honest conversations with “notable people” about the worst things in life.

Alan has no interest in best-selling books or Hollywood triumphs, and doesn’t know (or care) much about his guests. He’s looking for real conversations that dig deep and get to the worst things: nagging fears, embarrassing secrets and haunting regrets. And he’ll no doubt share a few of his own along the way.

They Called Her Georgia Lee…

In August of 1997, 12-year-old Georgia Leah Moses went missing in Santa Rosa, California. Nine days later, her body was discovered along the 101 Freeway in Petaluma, about 20 miles south of her last known whereabouts.

In spite of many leads and an eye witness description of the last person she was seen with, no one has been arrested or charged in her abduction, rape, and murder.

After 24 years with no movement in the case, Angel (Georgia's younger sister) has taken the investigation into her own hands. Since the case is still technically active, resources were limited and information was scarce.

So, in 2020, she started from scratch. Retracing every step and every avenue she could think of to gather information on her own. She began reaching out to friends, family, law enforcement, and the residents of Sonoma County to try and piece together the full picture of Georgia's tragic death.

In October of 2020 I joined Angel in her hunt for justice, hoping that my history in Sonoma County and my father's connection to the Sheriff's department might help us get some footing with those who have been holding on to her case all this time. But honestly, it was a long shot to begin with, because if next of kin can't get a straight answer, then how would I?

Although there are many hurdles facing us, we did get some answers and from some pretty unexpected places. However, with every question we checked off our list, more questions arose.

As the months pass and we dig deeper into what was really going on with Georgia in the last year of her life, a story filled with twists, turns and shocking revelations continues to unfold.

Transmissions From Jonestown

On November 18, 1978, in Jonestown, Guyana, over 900 people died in one of the largest mass murder-suicides in modern history. Locked deep within an FBI vault, the audio tapes documenting the rise and fall of Peoples Temple were sealed away until they were finally made public more than 20 years later. From Jim Jones' shadowy beginnings as a faith healer to the final, tragic night when his devoted followers drank cyanide laced Flavor Aid, Transmissions from Jonestown pieces together the story of a movement that spiraled into catastrophe. Transmissions from Jonestown is a true crime podcast and investigative audio documentary that exposes the untold story of Peoples Temple and the Jonestown tragedy using rare archival recordings, interviews with survivors, and original research. More than the story of a cult, this is an important chapter of American history that challenges everything we thought we knew about power, belief, and the cost of blind devotion. Read More

The Clearing – Terrance Phoebe

There are plenty of sayings about family. You can even buy them etched on wood and scatter them around the house. ‘You don’t have to be mad to live here but it helps…’ or just ‘family is everything.’ April Balascio would probably like to make a giant bonfire of these signs. She had always been afraid that her father was up to no good but at 40, when she pieced together her childhood of endlessly moving home, she called a detective with her suspicions. Edward Wayne Edwards, it turns out, was a serial killer and April had supplied the missing piece for a swathe of cold cases. Read More

Convicted: Across Borders

Each year, millions of Americans travel abroad and more than 3,000 are imprisoned every year. Many of them are wrongfully convicted, and many of them are told they will never go home again.

From Focus Features and L.A. Times Studios comes the brand-new podcast series, CONVICTED: ACROSS BORDERS. Hosted by famed lawyer and bestselling author, Marcia Clark, we’ll hear straight from the mouths of the men and women who lived through these trials. Through these stories we’ll explore how seemingly benign actions can lead to incarceration in foreign lands, how to navigate different legal systems when you don’t even speak the language, and who one turns to when the closest help is thousands of miles away.

Five unimaginably harrowing stories. Five traumatic fights for freedom. And five incredible true cases with emotional homecomings that have to be heard to be believed.

Convicted: Across Borders is produced by L.A. Times Studios and Treefort Media.

This podcast series is funded by Focus Features and produced by L.A. Times Studios. The Los Angeles Times newsroom was not involved in the creation of this series.
