The Past, the Promise, the Presidency

Welcome to "The Past, the Promise, the Presidency," a podcast about the exciting, unexpected, and critically-important history of the office of the President of the United States. You'll find four seasons of this podcast: Season 1 - Race and the American Legacy; Season 2 - Presidential Crises; Season 3 - The Bully Pulpit; and the current Season 4 - Conversations. Between Seasons 3 & 4, you will also find here a new pilot series called "Firsthand History." In each season of this series, we'll tell a different story from the complex and controversial era of the George W. Bush presidency. We'll tell these stories by featuring oral histories from our Collective Memory Project - firsthand stories told by the people who were there, including U.S. government officials, leaders from foreign countries, journalists, scholars, and more. Season 1--"Cross Currents: Navigating U.S.-Norway Relations After 9/11"--explores the tangled webs of transatlantic alliance in a time of war and uncertainty. "Firsthand History" is a production of the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University.

Better Etc. with Trista Sutter

Have you ever heard Maya Angelou’s phrase, “If you know better, you do better”? Well, Better Etc. is here to help with the “know better” part so that we can all get out there and tackle the “do better” part! Trista Sutter, our spunky host, is a mother, wife, and author… oh and she’s also known as the fairy godmother of a little reality dating show you might have heard of… you know, the one with the roses and the right reasons. Each week Trista chats with experts and everyday people about how we can all be better versions of ourselves. Whether it’s figuring out how to talk to our kids about sex, mastering a batch of cookies that your friends and family will drool over, guiding us down a path of being a more compassionate human, or shining a light on how to improve the important relationships in our lives, no topic is off the table. If we can get better at it, we’ll talk about it. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll open some eyes and hopefully even change some lives…for the better!

UnTextbooked | A history podcast for the future

UnTextbooked is brought to you by teen change-makers who are looking for answers to big questions. Have you ever wondered if protests really can save lives, why assimilation required Native American kids to attend boarding schools, how Black-led organizations for mutual aid began, how the fear of communism led the United States to plan the overthrows of many leaders in Latin America, or why Brazilian cars run on sugar? Or maybe you've questioned when Asian Americans will stop being seen as "perpetual foreigners," how African heritage influences Black activism, or what resilience looks like for Iranian women?  Your textbooks probably didn't teach you how American Jews were an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement, if history’s greatest leaders were generalists or specialists, how a Black teenager and his young lawyer changed America’s criminal justice system, or if either the US or the USSR won the Cold War. Did you know some of the forgotten BIPOC women of history were spying in aid of the French Resistance, that there's more to being a leader than going down with your battleship, or that there is a long history of gender expression in Native American cultures that goes beyond the male/female binary? Listen in as we interview famous authors and historians who have the answers.  Context is the key to understanding topics like British imperialism, segregation, racism, criminal justice, identifying as non-binary and so much more. These intergenerational conversations bring the full power of history to you with the depth and vividness that most textbooks lack. Real history, to help you find answers to your big questions. UnTextbooked makes history unboring forever. Read More

Unshaken Saints

Seismic shifts in the religious and secular landscapes are destabilizing the faith of millions. Join religious educator Jared Halverson as he explores restored scripture, doctrine, history, and practice; examines patterns and pitfalls in navigating faith crisis; and wrestles with ways to make your faith unshaken.
___________

Hello my friends, I’m Jared Halverson and this is Unshaken. I’ve spent my life studying the scriptures, my professional career teaching them, and my education at a Bible-belt divinity school exploring ways they have been used and abused, attacked and defended. And I’d like to share with you some of the things I’ve learned. In March of 2020 I created a YouTube channel called Unshaken, and six months later we hit our one millionth view, as people around the world are eagerly pursuing an unshaken faith in God by immersing themselves in His word. More and more viewers have been asking for an audio-only version of the lessons on Unshaken, and this podcast is my attempt to meet those needs. What it lacks in the visuals shown on YouTube, or the polished sound of a podcast-only production, it hopefully makes up for in its accessibility to the drivers, joggers, and multi-taskers out there who want to study their scriptures “on the go.” To you, welcome to our verse-by-verse, Come Follow Me study of the scriptures. I pray that it helps your faith in Christ become unshaken.

Sweetbitter | Women & LGBTQIA+ History

About Sweetbitter | Sweetbitter is an investigative history podcast with a focus on queer & women's history. Each season, we explore a different corner of history, using historical figures and texts as a starting point to discuss a broader story of erasure of people with marginalized identities. Along with the listener, in collaboration with multidisciplinary experts, we untangle untold histories for a modern audience.

Season 3 | This season, we explore the history of the Bible, unsettling assumptions about the text and religious tradition. With interviews from LGBTQIA+ clergy and scholars, we break down, re-frame, and re-imagine Bible passages to reveal untold stories of queer resilience, love, and liberation. Soul Speak with Erika Elmuts

With more than 17 million views on YouTube (and counting), Erika Elmuts describes herself as a consciousness catalyst and starseed tasked with a powerful soul mission to accelerate the ascension of the planet, cleverly disguised as a Bostonian at heart, a Harvard graduate, a naturopath, an international professional speaker (yet extremely introverted), and mom. She can be seen driving an F-150 around town and is often spotted wearing cowboy boots or yoga pants (but not both). Her proudest accomplishment (aside from her amazing daughter of course) was that she swam from Alcatraz to shore and lived to tell about it. Erika’s direct yet loving approach to inspiring her global audience to navigate the journey of soul growth has resulted in tens of thousands of people attributing their lives improving significantly directly to her teachings. In this show, she covers all of the fascinating topics in the realm of consciousness, New Earth, healing and spirituality, with a dose of humor and relatability. If you’re looking only for “love and light” or “namaste” this may not quite be your vibe. While there is still plenty of that, Erika’s messages are that of the beautiful, the raw, the challenging and the profound. Helping you navigate the reality of living as a higher consciousness being in a third dimensional world. It isn’t always pretty, it’s certainly not easy, yet it’s full of rewards, magic and connection. Using a blend of naturopathy, energy healing, spiritual counseling, channeling and intuitive guidance, Erika’s expertise spans multiple disciplines, which share the same common thread ~ applying universal consciousness and principles to all aspects of life. To your health, within your family and your children, in your intimate love relationship, and to your soul. Having spent the last almost 20 years in the realm of healing, science, consciousness and helping thousands of clients from across the globe heal physical, emotional and spiritual dis-eases, Erika is now bringing all of that expertise into a higher realm…to teach others how to reverse the aging process without using drugs or surgery. She has pioneered Biofield RejuvenationTM as the next evolution of her mission supported by her multi-disciplinary expertise, embodying a balanced blend of clinical and scientific, along with an intimate understanding of universal laws, energy and consciousness practices.
