Episode #83 - THE LIGHTHOUSE Oct 31, 2019

Show notes

In today's special Halloween edition of The A24 Chore, Jack and Alex discuss THE LIGHTHOUSE, just after returning from a 45 minute drive in the gloomy rain from the nearest theater playing the movie. This is a first impressions recording that avoids spoilers but it most definitely does not avoid ENTHUSIASM. All of our takes on Willem Dafoe, Robert Pattinson, and slick, windy black-and-white photography can be found here. Check it out!

Episode #82 - The Hole in the Ground Oct 24, 2019

Show notes

Alex and Jack get together to get spooky in preparation for Halloween, (and because they've reached that point in A24's filmography) with THE HOLE IN THE GROUND. A scary kid movie from the horrifying DirecTV/A24 partnership.

Episode #81 - Outlaws Oct 17, 2019

Show notes

Alex and Jack return with a film from the lovely folks of DirecTV in tandem with A24 and this one is all about motorcycles and motorcycle gangs, topics that are OBVIOUSLY parts of many A24 movies (they are not). This was a fun episode that involves a whole lot of both hosts talking about how they have never watched an episode of Sons of Anarchy, so check that out!

Episode #80 - Mid90s Oct 10, 2019

Show notes

Jack and Alex return to get fully into a movie entirely set within the time period in which they were born, that is, Jonah Hill's directorial debut MID90S! It's an important part of A24's releases and it gave these two mid-90s kids a whole lot to reminisce about, even if neither host is a cool skateboarder.

Episode #79 - The Children Act Oct 03, 2019

Show notes

Alex and Jack return to talk about a hard-hitting drama from DirecTV and A24. Our mixed up feelings about religion, blood transfusion, and infidelity are all laid out here, as well as our thoughts about THIS MOVIE. Check it out!

Episode #78 - A Prayer Before Dawn Sep 26, 2019

Show notes

Alex and Jack get together this week to talk about a movie that is stunningly artistic for just how masculine the thing is. A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN! A prison-based drama that really subverts some action movie tropes and leaves a whole lot of violence to talk about! Check it out!

BONUS - BASICALLY and C'EST LA VIE (ADJACENT24 Ari Aster MIDSOMMAR MADNESS Series) Sep 25, 2019

Show notes

In the third installment on the short films of Ari Aster, Jack and Alex go for a 2-for-1 episode discussing the two most similar works he's done, BASICALLY and C'EST LA VIE. Both shorts are available on vimeo and spark some interesting discussion about Ms. Maisel and class-struggle or some shit. Check it out!

Episode #77 - Goin' Back to NEVER GOIN' BACK Sep 19, 2019

Show notes

In a fast and loose type of hangout episode, Jack and Alex rewatched Augustine Frizzell's NEVER GOIN' BACK, a raunchy comedy that's mostly about underage drug and alcohol but also, the heartwarming friendship between leads Maia Mitchell and Camila Morrone. Crack open a brew or do whatever illicit substance you're into and check it out!
