Manga Pulse 474: School the Bitch Aug 09, 2022
    Show notes

With all the targeted marketing branching out, I have an idea. There’s an underutilized market that’s ripe for tapping. The boomers. You might counter that they see foreign comics as degenerate. I counter that there’s a large chunk of them that are secretly degenerates and can be swayed by the argument that it’s art. Or just blast their DMs with animu titties and they’ll eventually come around. Tim has Get Schooled. A manwha that would make the actual boomers as excited as an anteater in the insect pavilion. It’s set in the vaguely immediate future of South Korea. Schools have become a nightmare after the banning of corporal punishment resulting …

    Episode 763: Summer 2022 Previews #3 Aug 06, 2022
    Show notes

This week on Anime Pulse we got driving on a suspended license, Yakuza: Like a Babysitter, and anime that the FBI might come after you for watching. Up first Joseph has to spend a boatload of the money he was trying to save up for his upcoming vacation to Florida, and Andrew is wire-free as he asks us to expose our deep dark anime search history. Then in the industry news a solo topic and a timely one, as a man drives for over 50 tears without a proper license. And finally another previews episode as Joseph wakes up from a 17-year coma in another world and has to babysit his boss's daughter, and Andrew goes even deeper into the abyss to discover more KATETO-SAMA.

    Popcorn Pulse 178: Tim’s Audio Sucks Aug 02, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever just sat in a spaceship and wanted to drive? You know I was a Tesla Mars customer before I ever did ads. Even without the chip in by brains screaming at me to be loyal to the Emperor Musk. Even before all of that, Matthew McConaughey did other things. Like be the titular Joe in Killer Joe[2011]. A nineties play which had spent quite a bit of of time floating through development hell. With all sorts of actors champing at the bit to land roles it finally got adapted with McConaughey as Joe. Broke family in a trailer park comes up with a plan to have a …

    Episode 762: Andrew’s Lost Previews Jul 30, 2022
    Show notes

Andrew's an idiot and lost his half of the Previews for Anime Pulse 762 (the part in the anime podcast where we talk about anime..). So here's a re-recording of the anime coverage in case you're interested.

VG Pulse 377: One Cat To Rule The Internet Jul 30, 2022
    Show notes

This week on VG Pulse, cats win the internet. We start off with side notes of work life and summer life, before diving into the regular news where we discuss the (maybe?) revival of E3, the tragic loss of a young member of the Minecraft community, another rant about the implications of pushing for online-only, discussions about the implications of even more small studios being absorbed up by larger studios, and some great mods for Stray! Speaking of that, we head off to the reviews, where I discuss the catastic world of Stray and all of it’s beautiful furry ways, while Millennium updates the review for World of Tanks! We …

    Episode 762: Summer 2022 Previews #2 Jul 30, 2022
    Show notes

This week on Anime Pulse we got good gatcha luck, the return of Vic, and a man Joseph hates as much as Andrew hates Rent-a-Girlfriend's Kazuya. First up Joseph got all the 5-starts he wanted in the recent summer FGO event, and Andrew asks us to look way into the future and think if you'll be watching anime still. Then in the industry news we have topics like a man doing his best to ruin the environment, and Seven Seas being a shitty publisher attempting to appeal to the LGBT community by turning a man trans. And finally in the previews Joseph summons a sexy Onee-san demon to kill a deadbeat loser who keeps turning down paying work, and Andrew loses all his previews to the data sea and can't recover them.

    Episode 761: Summer 2022 Previews #1 Jul 23, 2022
    Show notes

This week on Anime Pulse we got hot new summer anime, the latest COVID vaccine craze, and teacakes. Up first Joseph talks about the Tunnock's Milk Chocolate Teacakes and his new aversion to chocolate, meanwhile Andrew is curious about how our tastes in anime have matured. Then in the industry news a follow up to the death of the Yu-Gi-Oh creator, and the creator of Love Hina! wins election for Japanese Parliament. And finally we kick off a new season of anime with Joseph starting life in a new world as an overpowered skeleton, and Andrew defends the skies as a comedic witch.

Manga Pulse 473: Token Takehashi Jul 19, 2022
    Show notes

Look at the hands on that clock, Steve. It looks like the hands are running backwards. I guess that means it’s time to do the Time Warp again. Because we seem to have fallen into the past through some sort of paper lined gateway. By that we mean manga and manga that’s aged. Has it aged like wine or soured like vinegar? Tim starts us off with InuYasha. That’s right, the origin of our term Takehashi Tokens has finally made it into the show via a request. Plus it’s a three volume omnibus! And Tim was only really exposed to the anime back when the cable anime boom was going. …

Episode 760: From Commonplace to Scrabble! Jul 16, 2022
    Show notes

This week on Anime Pulse we got bad news and more bad news, acceptable CG, and snacks from across the pond. Up first Joseph talks about his experiences with IRN-BRU, Jaffa Cakes, and Digestives. Andrew on the other hand has been on a game buying spree, falling prey to the steam summer sale. In the industry news it's a Joseph only day, with nothing but sad and bad news of the passing of two legendary Japanese icons. And finally in the reviews Joseph continues to be an edge lord in another world, and Andrew hates penguins so much his dad makes him a penguin android to cure his hatred.

Popcorn Pulse 177: Knives Outfit Jul 12, 2022
    Show notes

What what, eh old chap? Sharpen your shears. Block your wool. Polish your buttons and grab your straps because we have a movie. The Outfit[2022]. It’s the late fifties in Chicago when gangsters were gangsters and you could buy cigarettes from a machine for a nickel. We join Mark Rylance as he opens up his suit shop for the day at some point in the chilly months in the city. Mark, or ‘English’, runs the store while the local gang puts things in a dropbox. Things come to a head when the son of the gang leader shows up one night shot. It turns out there’s some informant among the …
