Popcorn Pulse 215: Bee Paradise Feb 20, 2024

Show notes

Oh no, I hear buzzing. It’s either an angry transformer, cicada mating season, or the bees. We all know that there’s nothing worse than the bees. Unless you’re not allergic like Nic Cage’s character in Wickerman. Then they’re mostly pleasant as long as they stick to their job of making honey and pollinating. Like bees featured for a few seconds in The Beekeeper[2024]. How’s that for a non-sequitur intro? Jason Statham is a Beekeeper. Not the, just a. And that involves him keeping bees on the property of a nice old lady. Until she gets scammed by a drive by pop up that tells her she has all the viruses. …

Manga Pulse 508: Hot Rock Feb 13, 2024

Show notes

We’re really going to shake things up today. We have a manga. But wait, there’s more! Manga that is. Ok, you caught us. We’re not really breaking the mold here. We’re being reliable. The kind of reviewers you can count on to deliver quality content. Or at least content that is delivered. We’re kind of dissembling here because this week’s bit isn’t all fleshed out and we had to get something down for the episode description. Tim has Bocchi the Rock. If you’re into manga or anime you’ve probably heard about this one. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, hue hue. It’s a slice of life about Hitori. She …

Popcorn Pulse 214: Cube-age Feb 06, 2024

Show notes

Wait, is that a box? What’s in the box? No, really, what’s in the box? You’d be forgiven for thinking this means we’re talking about a well known and referenced nineties movie. We are talking about a movie that was part of the “have to watch” if you were slightly into film in that era though. Featuring a no-star Canadian cast that can’t help but beg for a box of Timbits and subpar coffee with every meaningful glance. Which can only mean the box we referenced prior has to be part of Cube(1997). The premise is fairly simple. There’s a bunch of cube rooms connected to other cube rooms. Some …

Episode 839: Winter 2024 Previews #2 Feb 03, 2024

Then in the industry news the lawyer for the KyoAni arsonist is attempting to appeal his death sentence, and examples of just how long the translation game has been politicized. And lastly in the previews Joseph becomes the buffest healer who can kill anyone just by telling them to die, and Andrew rolls into town with a coffin on his back and an android partner with long fangs to kill artificial humans.

Manga Pulse 507: Brave Knight Jan 30, 2024

Show notes

You know those cooking shows where they bring on the absolute worst people? Like, they find someone who was born without a sense of taste because they were raised on a steady diet of pizza rolls and hot cheetos. Then they give them a kitchen stocked full of ingredients and let them loose. Neither do we but we’d like to see it happen. Especially if they were forced to try and remake something akin to their favorite food. Luckily we have a couple of manga to make up for the lack of what could be on TV. Tim has A Knight With a Time Limit. It’s an isekai which serves …
