    You’re Making It Worse

Although performing stand-up comedy was what initially united Eliot, Brent, and H. Alan over 10 years ago, it’s their openness (and sense of humor) about feeling totally lost and disconnected from the gay community that’s truly bonded them. On YMIW, Eliot, Brent and H. Alan get down and dirty, exploring the good, bad, and ugly tropes of contemporary gay life, often the stuff that no one — especially straight people — discuss for fear of being labeled homophobic. (Don’t worry. They’ll do that for you.) Each episode features a special guest -- comedians, humorists, musicians, influencers, film/TV writers, journalists, politicians, etc. – as well as allies, enemies, and acquaintances from all backgrounds and professions, not just those in the public eye. And as white, urban-dwelling gay dudes in their thirties, Eliot, Brent and H. Alan check their own privilege at the door, eager to instead explore what life looks for those not afforded the same concessions.

    Mano Agapion Jul 30, 2020
    Show notes

Mano Agapion of Drag Her, the Drag Race podcast he co-hosts with Nicole Byer, joins the guys to talk all things RPDR. Who would host if RuPaul stepped down? Which queens still haven't been given their proper due? And is Kameron Michaels REALLY "mesmerizing?" (Don't ask Eliot.) Then, Brent, Eliot and H. Alan chat about openly bisexual Arizona senator Kyrsten Sinema, who's been wearing colorful wigs to work in solidarity with those social distancing from hair salons mid-pandemic, a move causing some conservatives to clutch their pearls IN HORROR! And can we talk about the gay New Yorker who shouted a racist slur at a sanitation worker (and got caught on film)?

John Flynn and Mark Rennie Jul 23, 2020
    Show notes

John Flynn and Mark Rennie of the podcast Two Old Queens join Brent, Eliot and H. Alan to talk about their system for rating movies by inherent "gayness," and the Muppets place higher than you might expect! (Listen carefully enough and you'll hear Brent virtually pass out when fisting comes up.) Then, what exactly are queer people supposed to do if they want to watch Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel? And finally, is German chancellor Angela Merkel fierce? We investigate.

    Bryan Rucker Jul 16, 2020
    Show notes

Comedian, writer and Jeopardy! contestant Bryan Rucker gives you the lowdown on all things Trebek and asks if any of the co-hosts could stand a chance on the show. Bryan, official co-host of the podcast Goop Yourself, asks Brent, Eliot and H. Alan if Gwenyth Paltrow has any queer appeal ...or is she just annoying? Plus, what happens when a professional photographer "can't photograph" gays? And when it comes to celebrity doppelgangers, who are the alleged "lookalikes" that make your hosts squirm?

Brandon Kyle Goodman Jul 09, 2020
    Show notes

Brandon Kyle Goodman -- writer, actor, and accidental Instagram activist -- joins Brent, Eliot and H. Alan to talk about becoming the de facto authority on societal consciousness in the age of Black Lives Matter and why white people need to just SIT DOWN. Then, why is it harder to buy a home if you're LGBTQ? And in terms of "coming out online," the guys talk about their early digital footprints, from AOL chat rooms to Penis.com to Li'l Brent convincing his friends to look up gay porn "as a joke" ...on their computers, not his.

    Franchesca Ramsey Jul 02, 2020
    Show notes

Franchesca Ramsey -- actress, comedian, writer, author, and forever our YouTube Queen -- joins Brent, Eliot and H. Alan to talk about growing up a POF ("person of Florida"), conspiracy theories about fireworks, and why you should never, EVER call her "Frannie." And in two wildly different segments, the guys evaluate whether a gay-on-gay murder is considered a hate crime and, later, just what we're supposed to do about Britney. She is NOT OKAY, y'all.

Evan Ross Katz Jun 25, 2020
    Show notes

Evan Ross Katz, writer and host of the podcast Shut Up Evan, joins Brent, Eliot and H. Alan to talk about a potpourri of gay (and gay adjacent) pop culture, from Harry Styles' pearl necklace to Meghan McCain drag to what it means to "serve." Also, can we cancel the entire state of Idaho for wanting to inspect its NCAA players' genitals just to make sure they're not trans? Leave trans people alone, Idaho! And finally, what would it take for the guys to return to a gay bar, and just how does Eliot manage to sneak a Kameron Michaels reference into the conversation?

    Show notes

Zach Stafford, former editor of The Advocate and ACTUAL employee of Grindr, talks the guys to talk about The Big Issues: white gays' racism, Instagays using Black Lives Matter for thirst traps, and the joy of being protested by Westboro Baptist Church (incidentally Brent's favorite homophobes). Then, Brent, Eliot and H. Alan try to figure out why J.K. Rowling is OBSESSED with trans people. Plus, get to know the "Pick Me Gay," and try and count how many times the guys mention LeFou.

    Judy Gold Jun 11, 2020
    Show notes

Judy Gold, pioneering comedian and tall lesbian, joins the guys to talk about everything in her wheelhouse: Jewish mothers, politics, gay parenting, and that one time Madonna used her infant son as a prop on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. The guys also address Grindr using the Black Lives Matter movement to finally disable the function to filter by race, which Eliot loves to remind anyone who will listen WAS ALWAYS RACIST. And with #LadyG in the news, Brent, Eliot and H. Alan split the difference, talking about the queer impact made by Lady Gaga and Lindsey Graham, respectively speaking. ...Oh, and fuck Lindsey Graham.

    EPISODE 100! Jun 04, 2020

It only took a couple of years to get here, but in this week's centesimal, guest-free episode, Brent, Eliot and H. Alan take YOUR questions. Plus, Brent devises bona fide trivia about his co-hosts with questions specifically designed to leave Alan beaming with pride and Eliot beet red with embarrassment. With the world seemingly crumbling around us, we hope this week's episode gives you an hour to zone out and ask yourself: is Brent Sullivan the only person in the world to "hate" olive oil?
