    Show notes

    2019 AFC season preview Jul 17, 2019
    Show notes

We're only days away from the first NFL training camps opening up from rookies, so Charles Robinson and Terez Paylor are back in action with their full team-by-team season preview.

Today they tackle the AFC and give their worst-to-first predictions for every division. They start with the lowly AFC East, which could easily feature two of the league's worst 5 teams (5:35).

Next they move to the AFC South, one of the more confusing divisions where every team has a case (even a slim one) to make the playoffs (19:15). Later they tackle the AFC North, where there are some disagreements on the hype surrounding the Cleveland Browns and the addition-by-subtraction potential for the Pittsburgh Steelers (35:05).

Charles and Terez wrap up with the AFC West, where the Kansas City Chiefs look poised to beat their demons and challenge the Patriots yet again for an AFC title (50:30). They end the show with their predictions on who will take the AFC crown (1:10:05).

Optimism season: which teams should be hopeful right now? Jun 26, 2019
    Show notes

The beginning of summer marks the beginning of a different kind of season in the NFL: optimism season. It's the time of year where every local paper is reporting how even the most injury-prone veterans are looking spry and how every rookie QB is learning the playbook like a Bradley Cooper in Limitless. Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson break down optimism season in the NFL and which teams have a reason to be cheery this time of year.

Even the Kansas City Chiefs have something to be optimistic for as a decision regarding Tyreek Hill's playing status looms closer. In the absence of criminal charges, some within the organization are hopeful that a league suspension could be very short. Terez outlines the latest on the Hill situation and why the NFL could still issue a pretty major punishment (1:30).

Moving to the rest of the league, they run through which teams should be hopeful, including the Cowboys, every team in the NFC West and even snakebitten franchises like the Jaguars, Redskins and Giants (9:55).

Charles and Terez later run through all eight of the last-place teams from last season and try to predict which one could make the playoffs this year (25:30). That leads into a discussion about the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson, and the legacies of Jim Kelly and Dan Marino (34:45).

O.J. and Favre social blunders and why marijuana will be crucial in the next CBA Jun 19, 2019
    Show notes

One of the slowest stretches of the NFL season saw some rare social media pyrotechnics courtesy of two former stars.

Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson open the episode discussing the brief moment of Tuesday afternoon where former Green Bay Backer great Brett Favre appeared to have posted on Instagram that he would be returning to the league (0:45). They later discuss the more troubling social media resurgence of O.J. Simpson and the awkward situations he could put the league in by seeking out some renewed spotlight (4:10).

Transitioning to players and teams of the present, they discuss Terez' offseason visits to Cowboys (13:35) and Chiefs (23:35) OTAs. Later, Charles gives some background on the situation in Houston after the Texans fired GM Brian Gaine and how it may be a power play by head coach Bill O'Brien (25:40). Charles also reports on what he learned from visiting the OTAs of the Raiders (33:50) and 49ers (40:20).

Terez wraps up the show discussing his column on how marijuana will be a crucial bargaining chip in negotiations for the next CBA and why players might sacrifice softer marijuana rules in favor of more pressing issues (44:00).

Reliving the bombastic and extremely problematic 'Any Given Sunday' Jun 11, 2019
    Show notes

It's the dog-days of June, arguably the slowest point of the NFL calendar. So this week, after the success of their podcast decimating the 2014 Kevin Costner nightmare, "Draft Day," Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson are adding a second chapter to their football movie review series with the 1999 Oliver Stone opus, "Any Given Sunday."

With enough cursing and nudity to make Quentin Tarantino blush, Charles and Terez recap the nearly three-hour film, Jamie Foxx's surprisingly competent performance as QB Willie Beamen, what the film completely gets wrong about professional football and the moments that it gets strikingly right about the NFL and the lives of its players and coaches.

Incognito and Suh find their pirate ships, OTA thoughts from Foxboro and more Zeke trouble May 29, 2019
    Show notes

While the NFL calendar is relatively light this time of year, some players' social calendars remain very busy, which can be a bad thing. Exhibit A: the Dallas Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott who finds himself in another off-the-field incident after being detained but not arrested at a Las Vegas music festival.

Charles Robinson and Terez Paylor discuss Elliott's most recent troubles, the league's withering patience and what sort of punishment he could receive in light of previous infractions (2:50).

Later, Terez recounts his week at Patriots OTAs and shares his positive impressions of the newly-drafted first-round WR N'Keal Harry out of Arizona State (17:10).

Moving onto a pair of recent free agent signings: The guys discuss Richie Incognito agreeing to terms with the Oakland Raiders and how the Black Hole is turning into a powder keg of deranged personalities (25:25). Also they discuss the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' swap of defensive tackle Gerald McCoy for the Ndamukong Suh (33:45).

Charles wraps up the show asking Terez how he feels about a recent story surrounding the Buffalo Bills, O.J. Simpson and the current state of how teams retire numbers (38:00).

Gang green's red wedding: the latest Jets horror-show plus 'Game of Thrones' takes May 21, 2019
    Show notes

The 'Game of Thrones' finale is finally here and some fans are...less than enthused. Much like the fans of the New York Jets!

The summer when the Giants finally appeared to take the throne of 'most dysfunctional New York football franchise', the Jets said, "hold my beer," and fired GM Mike Maccagnan last week amid a flurry of back-stabbing quotes from inside the organization.

Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson welcome Yahoo Sports' very own Kimberley A. Martin to talk about the latest troublesome episode from one of the teams she covers most: the New York Jets (4:00).

Later, after the gang discusses what the NFL draft might look like if it adopted the NBA's lottery system which recently sent the basketball world into madness after awarding the New Orleans Pelicans with the first overall pick in the 2019 draft (22:25).

They then turn their attention to the Washington Redskins who took an immense blow to their depth chart after losing ILB Reuben Foster for the season to an ACL injury just minutes into their first practice (31:10).

To wrap up the show, Terez and Kimberley give their thoughts on the 'Game of Thrones' finale to an unimpressed Charles, who has never seen the show (35:20).

The latest on Tyreek Hill, Josh Rosen heads to South Beach and your mailbag questions May 08, 2019
    Show notes

Now that the 2019 draft is in the rear-view mirror, Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson address some of the larger league stories hovering just below the last two weeks' coverage of draft grades and incoming rookies.

They also discuss the trade of Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins, why he wasn't traded earlier and how Rosen's sophomore season in South Beach could be as troubling as his freshman season in Arizona (19:10).

Next, the guys talk about the strange case of combine stand-out QB Tyree Jackson. Charles outlines his plan that would allow underclassmen like Jackson to return to their schools after going un-drafted (27:10).
