    Writing on GamesCast

Hamish and Nico discuss goings on in the games industry, wax philosophical about the games they’re playing, and rarely notice things going off the rails.

Writing on GamesCast Ep.106 - Freestyle Music Oct 11, 2019
    Show notes

Join us as one host recovers from illness while the other develops it. Question whether anyone that says either "Joker is an irresponsible movie" or "Joker is a modern classic" has ever seen the film/any film before. Untitled Goose Game is a funny little experience, but we'd probably choose Goat Simulator over it. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is maybe the most catastrophically broken AAA game in years but not a totally terrible time. John Wick Hex is a true disappointment. Yakuza 3 doesn't hold up super well. Checking in on Big Time Tommie. Introducing new feature Bitbusters—tune in next podcast to hear the answers I guess. And yes, we discuss that Nostalgia Critic video. Once again, take it eas'.

    Show notes

How ya doin' Instagram, it's the Writing on GamesCast here to talk about the legitimately weird announcements from that Nintendo Direct (including... Deadly Premonition 2?!), why Control ain't doing it for us, how Ghost Recon Breakpoint surprised us, we answer your questions, and get some life advice from a man smoking a cigar. Take it eas'.

Jackson Dingle and Ryan Nosecondname are talking Gamescom and have a lot to say about what was played/seen both on the show floor and behind closed doors—Avengers, Cyberpunk, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Dragonball Z Kakarot, and more. We also talk about how our opinion on Wolfenstein Youngblood somehow worsened from when we last called it "the most disappointing game since Mafia 3", Fire Emblem, that new No Man's Sky update (and why there probably won't be the usual Annual Video about it this time around) and Budget Tom Hardy from Upgrade starring in Telling Lies. Also a massive thank you to Nico who has taken over editing duties on the podcast—he's doing an amazing job. Thanks for supporting us!

In which we get paid millions by Microsoft to take the podcast to Mixer. Well, we don't actually, but we do go into how Metal Gear Solid 4 makes more sense in 2019 (because it doesn't make sense), why Wolfenstein: Youngblood might be the most disappointing game we've played since Mafia 3, and why Goat Simulator is still (and has always been) great. Oh, you also have your requisite CKY and Mike Patton minutes. Good to be back.

Writing on GamesCast Ep.102 - So Many Shinji Games Jul 16, 2019

This one is a few days late thanks to some internet/audio hiccups (as well as some literal hiccups later on). Join the EVAGNs (that's meant to be a riff on AVGN but it totally doesn't work written down) to talk weird Japan-only Evangelion games, Nico getting to grips with Judgment, and Hamish's first (very brief) dip into Kingdom Hearts... for some reason. Oh, also, back by popular demand... the return of Mario Make Yourself.

Trying out a new hosting service here too, hopefully there aren't too many problems on that end. Thanks for listening!

Writing on GamesCast Ep.101 - Message Not Received Jul 04, 2019
    Show notes

There are so many games to talk about we genuinely lost track, so let's talk about Evangelion, press events in Paris and bad delivery drivers instead. OK, I guess we can also talk about Judgment, Hamish's new Super Mario Maker 2 level in a new feature called Mario Make Yourself, as well as Bloodstained and Crash Team Racing, I guess. Diff Rent Strokes.

    Writing on GamesCast Ep.100 - Three Years, Three E's Jun 13, 2019
    Show notes

To mark the momentus occasion of hitting 100 episodes just a few days out from the third anniversary of starting the show, we thought we'd go back to where it all started—an E3 recap. That means we're talking all the hottest reveals: King Crimson on Spotify, Gundam and Kevin Smith. We also discuss all the press conferences, as well as the weird spot E3 as a whole appears to be in.

Writing on GamesCast Ep.99 - I'm Sonic the Hedgehog, No One Cares About Me May 04, 2019
    Show notes

You wanted weekly? Well how about two in a week (we recorded this only a day after the last one was posted, which itself was recorded about a week before then... it's a whole thing). Your favourite Video Game Boys are back to talk more Mortal Kombat 11, that Sonic trailer, Dangerous Driving, a dramatic reading of the Pumpkin Hill theme, seeing Sunn 0))) in concert, and some truly relaxing ASMR.

Writing on GamesCast Ep.98 - A Game That is Literally For Toddlers May 02, 2019
    Show notes

Back to weekly! Oh wait. Also, this is being posted a few days after it was recorded because Hamish had videos to edit. That said, we're back to talk about the hottest gaming headlines: getting into punk music, shreds videos and the wonderful world of legacy bands marketing tour dates through stolen memes. We might also mention Mortal Kombat 11, Ace Attorney and Yoshi's Wooly World in there at some point. This one's for the Gamers! Oh also, the intro song is Real Deal by Antidote.

Writing on GamesCast Ep.97 - Tipping the Fondue Apr 04, 2019
    Show notes

The hot new From Soft game has come out and is one of the more divisive games we've played on the podcast, so of course we're burying Sekiro under an hour and a half of discussion of the first Mass Effect, Star Citizen, Shroud of the Avatar and the winner of multiple Best Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh awards, Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh. Also discussed is Mortal Kombat 9, and how the Street Fighter movie was never actually bad. Shit on a shingle!
