Woodsongs 589: Munnelly adn Butch Ross Oct 10, 2010
    Show notes

MUNNELLY is one of the hottest bands on the traditional Celtic music scene. Led by button accordion virtuoso David Munnelly, who came to attention in his early twenties touring and recording with The Chieftains, the band has exploded onto the Irish music stage with their peerless playing, irrepressible enthusiasm, and unique musical style. Their style of playing has been called a living link between two centuries of Rural Irish culture and the Golden Age of Irish American music of the 1920's & 1930's. BUTCH ROSS brings a “rock n roll attitude to the traditional mountain dulcimer. Playing the dulcimer standing up like a guitar and strung backwards, hell play everything from Beatles tunes to “Stairway to Heaven to the more traditional mountain tunes. Butch was given a mountain dulcimer for his birthday a few years ago, at the time the regionally touring singer/songwriter had no idea of the impact the instrument would have on his career.

DARRELL SCOTT is a songwriter, acclaimed performer and recording artist. As a songwriter, he's contributed a string of hits that reads like a list of the best modern country music has to offer. There's the Grammy Award winning "Long Time Gone" and "Heartbreak Town," both top hits for the Dixie Chicks. "Great Day to be Alive" helped Travis Tritt complete his comeback; "Born to Fly" was a No. 1 hit for Sara Evans, while "Family Tree" was successful for Darryl Worley and "When No One's Around" extended Garth Brooks' run.
