He was born Venkataraman Iyer, but is mostly known by the name Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. He was born in Tiruchuli, Tamil Nadu, India. In 1895, an attraction to the sacred hill Arunachala and the 63 Nayanmars was aroused in him and in 1896, at the age of 16, he had a "death-experience" where he became aware of a "current" or "force" which he recognized as his true "I" or "Self".

Lao Tzu ~ The Highest Teachings ~Taoism May 28, 2025
    Show notes

Selected verses from the "Hua Hu Ching" by Lao Tzu. The Hua Hu Ching is a book containing later teachings attributed to Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching. It is also known as "The Educate the Barbarians Sutra". While the Tao Te Ching is widely known and revered, the Hua Hu Ching's teachings are believed to be of equal importance. The Hua Hu Ching's teachings focus on attaining enlightenment and mastery through a path similar to the Tao Te Ching. They offer a practical guide to living a virtuous life, embracing the present moment, and discovering one's true self. The Hua Hu Ching's history is somewhat mysterious. While the original text was discovered in the Mogao Caves, it was also banned and ordered to be burned during a time of political turmoil in the 14th century. As a result, there are few complete and accurate manuscripts today, but the teachings have been preserved through oral transmission by Taoist masters.🙏 May whatever goodness arises from these readings/offerings be for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Remain Like the Sky ~ Pith Instructions of the Bon Masters ~ Bön Dzogchen May 21, 2025

A reading of selected pith instructions/verses for "excellent meditation" from the text 'Masters of the Zhang Zhung Nyendyud' - the Experiential Transmission of Bönpo Dzogchen. The text contains the heart teachings of ancient Bönpo Dzogchen Masters, translated and commented on by Yongdzin Lopön Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, the current holder of this unique lineage. The Yungdrung Bön (Bön) Lineage tradition is one of the oldest indigenous spiritual traditions in the world. This profound and uninterrupted transmission through generations has ensured the preservation and vitality of the Bön tradition, teachings and practices across millennia.Often referred to as Tibetan Bön Buddhism, Bön Lineage teachings share many similarities with Tibetan Buddhism yet maintain unique traditions, texts, rituals and practices intent on cultivating openness of heart, purification of obscurations and direct realisation of primordial awareness. The text can be found here:https://www.amazon.com.au/Masters-Zhang-Zhung-Nyengyud/dp/8170262682

Sallatha Sutta: The Arrow - SN 36.6 ~ Pali Suttas May 10, 2025
    Show notes

The "Sallatha Sutta: The Arrow" SN 36.6 (also known as the "Two Arrows" or "The Parable of the Poisoned Arrow") is a Buddhist parable that highlights the importance of understanding and managing our reactions to difficult experiences. The parable illustrates how we can choose to react to painful situations in a way that minimizes further suffering, rather than amplifying it. The first arrow represents the painful experience itself, while the second arrow symbolizes our resistance and negative feelings in response to that pain. The Buddha teaches that while we can't always control the first arrow (the initial pain), we can learn to control the second arrow by practicing mindfulness and non-resistance.Translated by Bhante Sujato
