Jean Klein - A Guided Meditation on "Welcoming" - Advaita - Vedanta Jan 27, 2021
    Show notes

Jean Klein (October 19, 1912 – February 22, 1998) was a French author, spiritual teacher and philosopher of Advaita Vedanta (Nondualism). He was born in Berlin and spent his childhood in Brno and Prague. Having left Germany in 1933 for France, he secretly worked with the French Resistance in the Second World War. Klein was a musicologist and doctor, traveled to India where he was influenced by Sri Atmananda Krishna Menon, studied Kashmir Shaivism and was sent to the West to teach Advaita Vedanta. He is regarded as one most eloquent communicators of non-duality in the second half of the 20th century.

This teaching is taken from the Spirit Awake website and can be found here: https://www.spiritawake.net/jean-klein/

"The Sayings of Old Man Tcheng" - Zen Buddhism - Non-duality Jan 27, 2021
    Show notes

Remarkable teachings intended for meditation and for cutting through delusions! The Words of Old Tcheng first appeared in the French journal, Etre, in 1974. Where this text first originated and at what time are unknown. It was given by a Buddhist monk in the form of a written document to a Frenchman who was visiting Indochina. Indications of style suggest that it may belong to the school of Zen founded by Hui Neng, the 6th Zen patriarch. French paraphrase of the original Buddhist text by J. Garillot (1974), translated by Else van den Muyzenberg.

Mirabai (Meera) - Selected Poems for Meditation - Hindu Mystic - Poet Bhakti Movement Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

Mirabai (1502–1556) was a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna. She is a celebrated Bhakti saint, particularly in the North Indian Hindu tradition. Mirabai was known for the incomparable beauty of the poems and bhajans she composed and sang in devotion to her beloved god, Krishna. Born in Rajasthan, she was married against her will to a prince of Chittor, near the fabled city of Udaipur. Her life was marred by persecution as she struggled to manifest her ardent desire to compose, sing and pursue spiritual studies. Though she was renowned for her talent, her family felt she was bringing dishonour by not behaving the way a courtly lady should — and they tried to poison and drown her.

Paramahansa Yogananda - Selected Teachings for Meditation - Kriya Yoga Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

Paramahansa Yogananda (January 5, 1893 – March 7, 1952) was an Indian monk, yogi and guru who introduced millions to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga through his organization Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) / Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) of India, and who lived his last 32 years in America. A chief disciple of the Bengali yoga guru Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, he was sent by his lineage to spread the teachings of yoga to the West, to prove the unity between Eastern and Western religions and to preach a balance between Western material growth and Indian spirituality. His long-standing influence in the American yoga movement, and especially the yoga culture of Los Angeles, led him to be considered by yoga experts as the "Father of Yoga in the West." Yogananda was the first major Indian teacher to settle in America.
