Ryan is the author of many books. One in particular, titled Ego is the Enemy, has had a big impact on me. Ryan talks about the difference between being or doing. "Do you want to be the important person or do you want to do the important things?" If you currently lean more toward the "To Be" camp but you want to be in the "To Do" camp, you will learn some specific things you can do to make the shift in this episode. Ryan also tells us about the Why Not Now? moments that led him to intentionally drop out of college and the corporate world. It's tough to sum up Ryan Holiday in a couple of sentences. Let's just say he has a very unique and special mind. This is one of my favorite Why Not Now? conversations because I learned so much.

Russ Perry shares how we can live life on an easier level of difficulty. He believes you have to be some form of an addict to become an entrepreneur. Whether that's being addicted to your business, results, recognition, success or alcohol and other substances. In this episode, Russ talks very openly about his path to sobriety, how his addiction almost imploded his life and ruined his marriage - but it didn't. What he managed to do was change his family tree and change his life. As a result of him gaining sobriety and clarity, Russ has gone from freelancing to growing a company called Design Pickle that now generates a half a million dollars a month. Russ's new book, The Sober Entrepreneur is refreshing. It's the ultimate life hack.

He talks about what to do when you have a Why Not Now? idea that keeps popping up in your head. It's resurfacing for a reason, so take note and take action. He explains how. Lastly, we talk about the difference between being productive in a job vs. happy and fulfilled in a job. Two different things!

After a tragic loss of a friend, Sebastian Terry did some reflecting and asked himself, 'Am I happy?'. His answer was no. Next, he wrote down a list of 100 things that he always wanted to achieve. Over the past 10 years, checking items off his list has become his full-time job. A few of the things on his list included marrying a stranger in Las Vegas and delivering a baby. What Sebastian realized throughout this process is that he gained the most happiness from helping other people check items off their own list. He's written a book about his adventure and he's even been in an TV show. His next goal is to develop a way to scale this concept and create a marketplace for people helping one another.

It's a part of how they operate through life. In this episode I've pulled together a few snackable soundbites of people who offer a unique point of view on gratitude and giving. Additionally, I interview my Mom in this episode! We start off with Adam Grant. He's an organizational psychologist, New York Times best-selling author and the highest rated professor at Wharton. Often times we think of "giving back' as a legacy after we've achieved a certain level of success and expertise. Adam shares a new, more progressive, way to look at giving back. He's the founder and CEO of Automatic which is the parent company of Wordpress which powers 28% of the internet. Matt is one of my favorite people to learn from.
