WYE 030: Dealing with Death Nov 27, 2019
    Show notes

For full show notes, visit http://wyeradio.com/episode39

In Paramedic School, EMS and Fire expert Justin Schorr learned all manner of keeping people alive but very little about how to deal with the deceased. In the three disciplines we encounter deceased persons more often than we'd like and making a death notification is not a benign procedure. What we say and how we say it will leave a lasting impression, don't make common mistakes.

    • Don't try to be overly kind. Don't apologize.
    • Brief explanations are best, don't get technical.
    • Use the word "dead" not "has passed on" or "is in a better place."
    • They will remember this forever, put some thought into it.

Ask WYE - Issue 30 - How to Confront Another Supervisor Nov 20, 2019
    Show notes

Listener Eric sent in a Facebook message about dealing with co-workers. Supervisors to be exact. It can be tricky speaking to our co-workers without being a jerk sometimes and that is the same when two supervisors come together.

The guys talk about simple tips to address scene issues and administrative issues when one boss disagrees with another boss:

    • When is the right time to address the issue?
    • What factor does scene/staff/officer safety play?
    • Is Gary involved?

Ask WYE - Issue 29 - Does Anyone Still Use a Beat Book? Nov 06, 2019
    Show notes

Retired LEO and author Ruth Ducharme was in studio recently and asked us a question about an old method of tracking activity and people in her district, or beat, called a Beat Book. In it she would track common people she encountered, who their associates were, where they hung out etc.

Is this analog solution still applicable in the modern world of databases and cross referencing? Do you still use a Beat Book? Do you keep it in a Beat Box?
