Episode 391- Scream 2 (1997) Aug 15, 2022

Show notes

In this week's episode, our second of College Month, we're discussing the final entry into the "Scream" franchise that we've yet to review: "Scream 2." Special topics for your consideration include: an absolute cavalcade of 1997 stars, inexplicable movie theatre behavior, 1997 hair, phone hacks, a serious of extremely 90s conceits and just some nice times hanging with old movie friends.

Scream, baby! We've got the original in Episode 44, "Scre4m" in Episode 228, "Scr3am" in Episode 278, and "Scream 5[?]" in Episode 374. Genuinely I'm sort of sad to bring this franchise to a close (lol jk they're definitely doing another one, right?)

Episode 390- The House on Sorority Row (1982) Aug 08, 2022

Show notes

Hey EMTs, it's about time we did a theme month! This August, it's back-to-school time with a series of four horror movies set at colleges. We're kicking it off this week with the 1982 slasher "The House on Sorority Row." Special topics for your consideration include: a lot of NSFW slang terms, being the dumb one in your group of friends, chicken bone disposal, underwear technology, impractical fashion, the worst blind date and MR. COOL SHOES.

If you liked this movie, you'll love the original "Black Christmas" in Episode 113 and to a lesser degree, the remake of "Black Christmas" in Episode 312.

Episode 389- Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) Aug 01, 2022

Show notes

You guys. YOU GUYS. How do you sleep at night, knowing that you've suggested films that bring us such pain? This week it's the 2008 dystopian goth musical "Repo! The Genetic Opera." Special topics for your consideration include: a mutual disdain for talk-singing, genetics: how do they work?, kernels of ideas that have gone to seed, whatever debt Paul Sorvino (RIP) had that got him to be in this film, a reconsideration of Paris Hilton, and some real honest-to-goodness angst from us.

I guess we just love Paris Hilton, I dunno. Catch her in Episode 118- "House of Wax" and Episode 321- "Nine Lives." I genuinely hope she does another horror movie soon.

Re-release: Episode 152- Anaconda (1997) Jul 25, 2022

Show notes

Hi EMTs, I (Katie) and my family all have covid, so no new episode this week. Instead, we're re-releasing one of our favorites from the archives: the 1997 horror/action film "Anaconda." If I recall correctly, this episode was recorded during my height of new-baby madness so that's always a great time. We'll see you back here next week for the Paris Hilton rock opera (whatever that thing is called).

In the meantime, give us a call and leave us a voicemail! You can call 412-407-7025 and let us hear your sweet sweet voices.

Episode 388- The House by the Cemetery (1981) Jul 18, 2022

Show notes

In this week's episode, we're back to the joyful, horrifying, repulsive, hilarious fountain of weirdness that is a Fulci film-- it's the 1981 movie "The House by the Cemetery." Man oh man. Special topics for your consideration include: sweet sweet Bob and his grown ass adult voice, utterly phenomenal accents, absurd red herrings, squirrelly men, blood balloons, baffling plot holes, necessary larvae, and of course, CLOSE ENOUGH LUCIO.

Get yourself some Fulci. We've got Episode 72- "The Beyond," Episode 227- "Zombi 2" and Episode 281- "City of the Living Dead."

Episode 386- Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) Jul 04, 2022

Show notes

So many of you have suggested that "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" might be the scarecrow movie that Katie enjoyed years ago while immediately forgetting the title. Well, is it? You'll have to listen to find out! Special topics for your consideration include: an utter lack of knowledge about farm equipment, only having one outfit and wearing it for everything, absolutely amazingly-named characters, some fun with math, the insignificance of the passage of time when you're plotting out a movie, and some thoughts on folks who purchase a particular type of tshirt.

This is the third scarecrow-themed film we've covered in hopes of finding the one: the others are Episode 237- "Scarecrow" (this is a SyFy channel original film and hoo boy that was a mistake) and Episode 334- "Husk."

Episode 385- A Quiet Place (2018) Jun 27, 2022

Show notes

In this week's episode, we're trying hard not to drop things and avoiding our yelling-around neighbors because as the newspapers say, "IT'S SOUND!" We're discussing the 2018 film "A Quiet Place." Special topics for your consideration include: weird Instagram personas, letting Jim from The Office put his hand over your mouth, questionable parenting, post-apocalyptic horniness, a new way to get in touch with your favorite podcast buds and some good news out of Savini Watchland.

LOL remember "Bird Box"? It's Episode 211.

Episode 384- The Purge: Anarchy (2014) Jun 20, 2022

Show notes

In this week's episode, we found ourselves having one of the most deeply divided reactions to a film in a very long time. The film in question is the second entry of a franchise in which, shockingly, we have also covered the first and NONE of the subsequent movies out of order: it's 2014's "The Purge: Anarchy." Special topics for your consideration include: the concept of a libertarian fantasy world, the lack of more stupid crimes, terrible code names, QB!, income taxes, trying to make a dumb idea sound smart, and the official treat of summer!

We covered the first "Purge" film back in Episode 109. If you're into home invasion films, maybe you'd also like Episode 40- "You're Next," Episode 86- "Hush," Episode 243- "The Strangers," or Episode 315- "Knock Knock."

Episode 383- Hack-O-Lantern (1988) Jun 13, 2022

Show notes

In this week's episode, it's an EMT pick! Thank you so much to listener Derek who won the contest in our "Firestarter" episode and chose a real doozy of a film-- the 1988 Satanic cult movie "Hack-O-Lantern." Believe me when I say that this movie has it all: heavy metal, boobs, Satanism, a bathroom with carpet in it which is inherently also very evil, horny adult teens, weird stuff at the rec center, boobs, terrible fake guitar playing in the world's saddest jerkoff fantasy, Levi's cords, creepy grandpas, Coors Light, inept police work, barn-based occult rituals, did we mention boobs? There are a ton of them.

Halloween is THE BEST. You may enjoy Episode 52- Halloween III: Season of the Witch," Episode 68- "Trick r Treat," Episode 105- "Murder Party," Episode 192- "Night of the Demons," Episode 197- "Terrifier," Episode 200- "Trick or Treat," Episode 366- "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and really so many more. It's the most wonderful time of the year.
