Hello there! Welcome to Professor Jacob’s 135th lesson on Pokémon biology. Today's lesson is all about Jolteon: the Lightning Pokémon. This evolved form of Eevee creates electricity with an organ in its lungs. No one bothered to name this organ apparently. Jolteon is capable of discharging 10,000-volt lightning bolts, which it is able to do by accumulating negative ions in the atmosphere. These ions in Jolteon's fur cause a sparking noise, which you can hear if you get close enough to one. But not too close! This Pokémon has a total of 80 long tentacles that can stretch and retract, which it uses to trap its prey in a net-like shape. All of these tentacles are poisonous, so no handshakes or high-fives with a Tentacruel, trainers! Similar to Tentacool, it has red orbs on its body. These orbs are used to express emotion, communicate with other Tentacruel, and even alert others to danger. Unlike its domesticated Kantonian variant, the Hisuian Growlithe was a rock/fire type that took more time to bond with humans. Since then, they have forged an incredible friendship. This blue, streamlined-body, water type Pokémon is an incredibly fast swimmer - some Pokédex entries claim it's even the FASTEST swimmer among all Pokémon. It has webbed hands and feet, which are terrible for hand-holding but excellent for swimming. Like its predecessor, Golduck has the capability of using psychic powers and can do so when swimming at max speed. Golduck is also known to "punish" those who disrespect its rivers by forcibly dragging them in the water and taking them far away. That's like a horror movie. As with Paras, Parasect has a parasitic relationship with the tochukaso mushroom, which has now completely taken over its mind. This poor creature has been drained of nutrients, and when it's fully depleted, the mushroom forces the Parasect to suck the nutrients out of nearby trees. This process continues until all trees in the area are drained of nutrients... and even then, the tochukaso mushroom is never satisfied. This is hardcore stuff, trainers. This tiny bug/grass type creature has mushrooms called tochukaso growing on its back. These mushrooms are parasitic and absorb nutrients from Paras in order to grow larger and gain full control of its brain. Yikes. That's actually pretty haunting. Paras is a poor Pokémon that has never had a single desire of its own since birth... let's try not think about it. These mushrooms aren't all bad! The tochukaso are also used by many humans for medicinal purposes, including extending life. So if you want your grandma to live to see 100, then pop some of these bad boys in her curry. Zubat is considered by many trainers to be a nuisance while passing through caves or forests at night. They live in abundance with each other in dark environments (especially caves), where they navigate using echolocation. During the day, Zubats sleep while hanging upside down and avoid the sunlight at all costs, which can be harmful by causing severe sunburns on their skin. So it is strongly advised that trainers train with their Zubats at night or in caves. If you HAVE to train your Zubat during the day for whatever reason, we recommend using SPF 200 sun screen.
