Terrifying & True | Bill Sparkman — The Census Worker Death Staged to Look Like Murder Mar 11, 2024
    Show notes

Bill Sparkman’s death in a Kentucky cemetery initially looked like an attack on a census worker. Terrifying & True revisits the 2009 investigation, the “FED” marking that fueled speculation and the forensic findings that challenged the first interpretation. Police concluded that Sparkman had staged his suicide to resemble a homicide, a finding some loved ones struggled to accept. This episode examines how an alarming scene became a national political story before the evidence was understood. What happens when the apparent message of a death obscures its cause? We're telling that story tonight.

His host sees reason for a different explanation. This complete Gothic short-story reading explores how isolation and dread can distort what appears directly before our eyes. Is the landscape hiding a monster, or is fear changing the scale of the world?
