Terrifying & True | Poltergeist Curse: Heather O’Rourke, Dominique Dunne & the Film Tragedies May 06, 2024
    Show notes

The “Poltergeist curse” grew around real tragedies affecting a famous horror franchise. Terrifying & True examines the deaths of Heather O’Rourke, Dominique Dunne, Julian Beck and Will Sampson, alongside the production stories that helped build the legend. The episode distinguishes documented circumstances from supernatural speculation, keeping the actors behind the screen characters in view. A haunted-house movie became the center of a different kind of ghost story told by its audience. Why do unrelated losses become so compelling when people arrange them into a curse? We're telling that story tonight.

The Creature from Richardson’s Lake — No Swimming After Sundown May 01, 2024
    Show notes

Richardson’s Lake has one rule: no swimming after sundown. Four teenagers ignore it, bringing beer and floats through a broken fence for a private summer adventure. Charles Campbell’s “The Creature from Richardson’s Lake” sends them into dark water where something with gills and claws is already feeding. The shore suddenly looks much farther away. This Southern aquatic horror story turns a familiar swimming hole into a creature-feature trap, with trespassers discovering why the daytime attraction closes so promptly. A moonlit swim is a poor time to learn what lives beyond the ropes.

    Show notes

A body on an Adelaide beach, a scrap reading “Tamám Shud” and a book with mysterious markings made the Somerton Man an enduring Australian mystery. Terrifying & True follows the 1948 discovery and the clues that fueled theories about identity, espionage and death. The episode also considers the genetic-genealogy work that pointed to Carl Webb in 2022, without treating a proposed name as an answer to every question. A scrap meaning “finished” became the beginning of decades of investigation. What brought this man to Somerton Beach—and what happened before he arrived? We're telling that story tonight.
