Should I DJ Sweet 16s as an older DJ? Apr 17, 2023
    Show notes

Sweet 16 parties are a significant milestone in a young person's life, and they are often celebrated in a big way with a DJ, music, and dancing. However, DJing a Sweet 16 party can be a challenging experience for several reasons.

Firstly, Sweet 16 parties can be high-pressure events. The birthday girl or boy wants everything to be perfect, and there may be a lot of expectations from both them and their guests. This means that as a DJ, you may have to deal with a lot of stress and pressure to deliver an excellent performance.

Secondly, the audience at a Sweet 16 party can be tricky to navigate. You will likely be playing music for a range of ages, from young teenagers to older family members, and you will need to find a way to keep everyone happy and engaged.

Finally, there may be some specific requests or requirements that the birthday girl or boy has for the music or the performance, which can add an extra layer of complexity to the job.

All of these factors can make DJing a Sweet 16 party a challenging and sometimes frustrating experience. However, with the right preparation, communication, and attitude, it is possible to deliver a successful and enjoyable performance that everyone will remember for years to come.

    Show notes

Understanding the BPM (beats per minute) of a song is essential for DJs, as it helps them match the tempo of different tracks and create smooth transitions between them. Here are a few reasons why DJs need to understand the BPM of a song:

    1. Beatmatching: Beatmatching is the process of aligning the beats of two tracks to create a seamless transition between them. DJs use the BPM of each track to determine how to match the tempo of the songs and create a smooth transition.

Do NOT DJ Your Wedding Like THIS! Apr 16, 2023
    Show notes

Your wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days of your life, and the music plays a crucial role in creating the right atmosphere and setting the tone for your celebration. Here are a few things to avoid when selecting a DJ for your wedding:

    1. Lack of professionalism: Your wedding DJ should be professional, reliable, and experienced. Look for someone who has a track record of delivering high-quality performances and has good reviews from previous clients. Avoid DJs who are unprofessional, disorganized, or have a questionable track record.
    2. Inappropriate music: Your wedding DJ should be able to read the room and play appropriate music that fits the mood and atmosphere of your celebration. Avoid DJs who play music that's too loud, offensive, or inappropriate for a wedding.
    3. Lack of communication: A good wedding DJ should be able to communicate clearly with you and your partner, and be open to your ideas and preferences. Avoid DJs who don't respond to your messages or who are difficult to reach.
    4. Poor equipment: Your wedding DJ should have high-quality equipment that's reliable and produces great sound. Avoid DJs who have outdated or poorly maintained equipment, or who don't have backup equipment in case of technical difficulties.
    5. Overpricing: While you want to ensure that you have a quality DJ, you don't want to overpay for their services. Avoid DJs who charge exorbitant fees that are not in line with the quality of their services.

Overall, choosing the right DJ for your wedding is important for creating the right atmosphere and ensuring that your celebration is memorable for all the right reasons. Avoiding these common pitfalls can help you choose a professional, experienced DJ who will deliver a great performance and help make your wedding day one to remember.

DJs STOP begging to spin while another DJ is on set Apr 16, 2023
    Show notes

It is generally considered unprofessional for a DJ to approach another DJ while they are performing and ask for a chance to play. This behavior can be seen as disrespectful to the DJ who is currently performing and may create an uncomfortable situation for both the DJs and the audience.

Instead, if you are interested in playing at a particular event or venue, it is best to reach out to the promoter or organizer in advance and express your interest in performing. This allows for proper scheduling and planning and shows respect for the other DJs and their performance.

In some cases, there may be opportunities for guest DJs to perform during a specific time slot or event, but it is important to approach the situation professionally and respectfully, without disrupting the current performance. Always remember to prioritize professionalism and respect for your fellow DJs and the event organizers.
