Terry Manning’s Studio Stories - From Zeppelin to ZZ Top Sep 29, 2023

Show notes

In this solo episode, Tom welcomes back renowned producer & engineer Terry Manning for another deep dive into his storied career. As Led Zeppelin toured the U.S. in 1970, it was Manning who masterfully mixed their seminal "Led Zeppelin III." Shortly after, a young Billy Gibbons soon sought Manning's expertise. The partnership saw ZZ Top's sound transform from the raw blues-rock of "Tres Hombres" to the groundbreaking "Eliminator”. Manning was an integral member of the crew that launched ZZ Top into the stratosphere and beyond. Ever wondered how that little ol’ band from Texas metamorphosed from a humble blues trio into a space-age, synth-boogie sensation? Then you’ll want to hear this great conversation with a genuine music legend.Join us on our website - www.waxaudio.net/waxaudioshow - and in the Wax Audio Show Facebook group - www.facebook.com/groups/waxaudioshow

Episode 7: Ghost Studios - Part 2 Jul 26, 2023

Show notes

In the 1980s, there were three residential studios that were among the greatest the world has ever known - A.I.R. Montserrat, Le Studio, outside of Montreal, and Compass Point Studios in The Bahamas. These three incredible studios all had several things in common. They were all in idyllic and secluded locations. They all helped to create the music that defined an era. And they were all ultimately abandoned, with only the ghosts of the music and memories that were made there, echoing within their forgotten and decaying walls. In this - the second of two episodes - we tell the tale of Compass Point Studios and speak with Terry Manning, the man who ran it for almost 20 years, about some of the many artists who worked there, the music they made, and the shocking story of why it too became a ghost studio. Episode 4: Van Halen - Rare and Unreleased Dec 03, 2021

Show notes

Van Halen were a band often criticised for not maintaining their legacy. In the last 25 years of their career they released just three studio albums. And they never put out any compilations of previously unreleased material (out-takes, demos, rarities, etc). But the fact is, a wealth of unreleased material exists online. So much so that even as die-hard fans ourselves, we’ve often felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of demos, live bootlegs and leaked studio work available. It’s taken us until now to sift through it and put it all in context. And now, we share that journey with you. Welcome to the Wax Audio Show…
