Ladell Betts | WUW 431 Jun 22, 2023

Show notes

Ladell is from Kansas City, Missouri and attended Blue Springs High School. By the end of his high school career he was a standout on the football field and that earned him a scholarship to the University of Iowa. He excelled early, was a significant part of the Iowa Rushing attack for his entire career, and is still the only player ever to lead the Hawkeyes in rushing in 4 straight years. His career was uniquely split between Coach Hayden Fry and standing head coach Kirk Ferentz, the man that he now coaches under. We discussed the transition of coaches and what that was like from the player perspective, what the team realized once Coach Ferentz took over, and other details from his career at the turn of the millennium. He went on to have a very successful career in the NFL as a running back for the Washington Redskins, playing in the league from 2002 through 2010. He got into coaching shortly after he retired and spent time at a handful of high schools, before a conversation with his wife sparked a path to thinking about elevating to the college level and beyond. He got the job with the Hawks as RB Coach in 2021.

Kittle Gets Chubbie, Drake Is Broke, Kevin To Nashville | WUW 428 Jun 12, 2023

Show notes

In this Q&A Episode we spend the first half discussing a recap of the Bo Bower wedding, Drake being broke and needing a job, as well as a Montana warrant in Drake's name. We talk about Riley Moss looking like Mathew McConaughey, Kevin finding his way into the Nashville trip to TEU, and then we get into the questions from the fans. What were our extensive thoughts on the Kittle X Chubbies ad video? What are the most listened to WUW ever? What was it like having Aaron Hernandez's brother DJ as a coach for 2 years? Which former teammates of ours would we hire as coaches for the Iowa staff? Over 5 years post football, have we found something to fill our competitive void, and on a larger scale does it feel like we have found purpose outside of football?

Matt Haack | WUW 426 Jun 05, 2023

Show notes

Matt was born in Phoenix AZ but grew up and graduated an Iowa boy, spending his prep years at Dowling Catholic High School. This odd skill landed him a scholarship at Arizona State University where he would go on to start for 3 years and play next to college great Zane Gonzalez. Matt was picked up as a free agent after graduating and has now spent 6 seasons in the NFL with 4 teams. We discuss his wild rise to the League, the ins and outs of special teams in the NFL, the contrast between organizations and a whole lot more!

What Sport Requires The Most Skill? | WUW 425 Jun 01, 2023

Show notes

In this episode we catch up on each others lives and do some housekeeping items on the agenda. We open up with a bigger discussion about what sport requires the most skill? What Drake and Kevin would have shot at the PGA Championship, and how cool the Michael Block story is. We read some incredibly entertaining reviews of our podcast where one fan gives the best description of the show, and more specifically Kevin, of all time. We discuss Kasper's second son who is an 8th grader already scoring an offer from Oregon. A potential opportunity to collab with an Iowa brewery presents itself to the boys and we talk about the possibilities of partnering with them. Kevin ponders using his adult money to buy himself a moped to relive the glory days of college. We throw it back to our first ever on site podcast from a local Iowa City joint, and then we talk about Cooper Dejean a little bit. We finish by pumping Gervase's Rally For Reid Football camp.
