    You may or may not know that I don't teach dogs to sit that come to us for training. Sitting isn't the problem, the dog's state of mind is. A dog can be aggressive and just because it sits down doesn't mean you have taken the aggression away. I am not teaching Jemma to sit, listen in to hear my reasons why.

    This is always a touchy subject with dog owners. There are owners that want their dogs to romp off leash and have a good time and there are owners that can't take their dogs off leash and need a little guidance with socializing. Either way, you should always be thoughtful of who you might run into and how to best handle the situation. Letting your dog run up to another dog off leash is playing Russian Roulette.     Is Your Dog Sparring or Playing? - Talking Dogs Radio Show Jul 30, 2018

    I learned about this concept a couple of months ago when I was talking with Linn Boyke (previous dog trainer interview). I had sent him a video of a dog playing and he quickly responded and informed me of the sparring vs. playing concept. It made a TON of sense to me and ever since then I have kept a closer watch on how the dogs play during daycare.

    Reid is a down to earth kinda guy and I always enjoy talking with him as we've known each other for a few years. We have always been able to toss ideas off each other and pick each others brains when needed. He tells a great story of one of the worst bites he's ever received.....and as always bites are learning experiences for dog trainers. But it didn't slow Reid down - he's got a great thing going and his wife has been by his side the entire time. Take a listen!
