    Show notes

On this episode Matt and I discussed aggression in puppies and how we handle dogs coming in for daycare.

Liz Foley from the Dog Haus in Cananda joined us. She spoke about her virtual training, the biggest problems dog owners have today, crating, and handling dogs arriving at daycare.

Liz is a good friend of the show and she always gives us great insight into dog psychology. It's always nice chatting with Liz and we have a lot in common in our businesses.

Your Dog & The Dog Park - Talking Dogs Radio Show Jan 14, 2021
    Show notes

Depending on who you are, dog parks can either have a negative or positive association. I don't believe whoever created the dog park had bad intentions, it just sometimes turns into a negative place to be.

There are a few different ways a dog park can help your dog from it being a training environment on the outside to having off leash time on the inside.

What's your association to a dog park?

Your Dog & Fear Aggression with George Cockrell - Chit Chat Jan 11, 2021
    Show notes

George Cockrell finally joined and we talked about fear aggression which is a term that can be misleading. With over 40 years experience training dogs he's someone I always lean on when I have questions. George is never afraid to tell it how it is and he is a wealth of knowledge.

I have interviewed George a couple of times on this podcast and you will recognize his voice in the intro and outro of the show.

George works for Dogizone in Maryland and they are a large facility that is training hundreds if not thousands of dogs per year.

Your Dog & Quieting Their Mind - Talking Dogs Radio Show Jan 07, 2021
    Show notes

A number of years ago I would tell my clients that having a calm dog was ideal and that is the goal. But what I didn't realize then is the process of how we want to quiet the dog's mind down first in order to get to calmness.

There is a big difference between a quiet mind and a calm mind. Think of a 5 year old in school, you can tell them to be quiet if they act up. That may quiet them while they are sitting in their chair but it doesn't mean they are calm. But if you keep the mind quiet for a while then you calmness will come.

Would love to know what your opinion is on this subject. How do you achieve a quieter mind with your dog?

Your Dog & Loud Noises & Licking Faces - Chit Chat Jan 04, 2021
    Show notes

We get numerous questions about how we can help a dog that has a fear of loud noises. Between thunderstorms, July 4th, and snow falling off the roof, there are a lot of loud noises that can affect our dogs.

We also discussed how to handle your dog licking and how to help our dog through reactive situations. These were excellent questions from our Facebook Live viewers.

Join us every Wednesday at 12:30pm LIVE on our Vermont Dog Trainer Facebook Page to watch our podcast taping.

Your Dog & Freedom - Talking Dogs Radio Show Dec 31, 2020
    Show notes

Freedom is so powerful to dogs, it can lead to a wonderful feeling being able to go on hikes or walks in the woods. It can also lead to undesirable behaviors and unwanted decision making. Where do you and your dog fit in this spectrum??

Feel free to join in on this conversation on the Vermont Dog Trainer Facebook page.

Your Dog & Being Stubborn - Chit Chat Dec 28, 2020
    Show notes

I think too many times people will label their dog as stubborn but in most cases the dog hasn't been taught enough to know what is expected of them. Does that make them stubborn or is it lack of instruction. This is an interesting subject to talk about.

I would love to hear your feedback, visit our Vermont Dog Trainer Facebook page and comment on this podcast episode post.

Your Dog & Being Dominant - Talking Dogs Radio Show Dec 24, 2020
    Show notes

I hear this so many times "my dog is alpha", or "my dog is dominant". And that may be true in certain situations but I have rarely come across a dog that is 100% truly dominant. There is no where near the amount of dominant dogs out there that people think there is.

Your Dog & Cats - Chit Chat Dec 21, 2020
    Show notes

Matt has a special announcement before we got on the discussion of cats. The cat subject is a hot topic among dog owners as this is an on-going issue for many people. There is some good advice in this episode for you cat & dog owners out there.

Your Dog & Different Types of Barks - Talking Dogs Radio Show Dec 17, 2020
    Show notes

Barking is an important form of communication for our dogs. If we don't understand what it is how can we know how to handle it? In this episode you will learn some tricks to help you understand what barks mean in certain situations!
