145: What iPhone X Plus Should STEAL from Galaxy Note 9 Aug 10, 2018
    Show notes

Today's show all about what iPhone X Plus could learn from Galaxy Note 9.

Yeah, you read that right. Apple has made the iPhone Plus line its own with features like multi-column layouts in landscape mode. But that was then, this is now, and there are features Samsung has thrown against the wall and... had them stick hard enough I'd love to see them in the next big iPhone.

144: How to Fix iPhone Battery Life Aug 09, 2018
    Show notes

    Buh-bye Facebook. Buh-bye Snapchat. Buh-by Pokémon Go…

What, I'm not supposed to force quit a bunch of apps, I'm just supposed to let the system manage all that? Well, yes and no.

Whether you're not getting the battery life you should or you just want to get MAXIMUM EFFORT out of your phone, people are super curious about what to do. And there's just so much information and misinformation out there. Some is true, some is false, and some depends entirely on context.

143: Apple vs. Infowars: Why Alex Jones got deleted Aug 08, 2018
    Show notes

Apple Podcasts, one of the largest and most popular podcast directory service on the planet, has de-listed four out of five of Alex Jones's Infowars shows — not just specific episodes but the entire shows — for violating the terms of service against hate speech.

Why did Apple — and fast followers Google, Facebook, and Spotify — hit the delete key? Does it have anything to do with content policies, freedom of speech, censorship, companies vs. governments, or are these companies so big and powerful they're indistinguishable from governments?

141: Why Apple Canceled the App Store Affiliate Program Aug 03, 2018
    Show notes

On Tuesday, Apple announced its best June quarter ever, with services revenue of $9.55 billion — up 31% year over year. And a large part of that is App Store revenue.

On Wednesday, Apple announced an end to its App Store affiliate program, which paid a small commission for links that resulted in the purchase of an app.

140: 12 Safari Secrets You Need to Know! Aug 01, 2018
    Show notes

There's a new book coming out called Creative Selection about how Apple makes insanely great products. Now, this isn't a promo. Ken's not a sponsor. I got a review copy of the book early and I've read it twice already. It's just that damn good. The first part deals with how Apple made the Safari web browser and WebKit from KHTML. And how the singular focus was — fast. Nothing. No code. No feature. Could be checked in if it slowed Safari down one bit. Zero regression, that was their holy Fremen war.

And it got me thinking just how fast you make Safari on iPhone and iPad today. Not just in terms of raw speed but convenience as well. And since I've been getting a bunch of requests for more tips videos as well, sharing made the kind of sense that does.

So, a few basics to start off with and make sure everyone, new and ninja, are up to speed, then some iOS 12 Shortcuts magic to bring us home.
