    Show notes

Dr. Angie Maxwell is the director of the Diane D. Blair Center of Southern Politics & Society at the University of Arkansas. She and Todd Shields wrote, "The Long Southern Strategy: How Chasing White Voters in the South Changed American Politics. If you want to know how we got to today in politics, you must read this book. Please follow the links to find out more about Angie, Todd, and the amazing work they do with the Blair Center. We're lucky to have them. We recorded this interview at South on Main in Little Rock. It was a little noisy, but Angie is very busy, so we had to squeeze in lunch while she was in Little Rock.

    Alese Stroud Sep 09, 2019
    Show notes

Alese Stroud is a badass. She has been in the tech world for decades, starting when she decided to teach herself coding to be able to do what she wanted, the way she wanted. Because THAT'S WHAT WE DO. Alese and I met at Blue Sail Coffee at the Tech Park in Little Rock. There's a lot of background noise. Sorry. But you'll get used to it. This episode may be a little much for anyone not interested or somewhat well-versed in Startup World. But midway or so, we start to talk about women in this milieu and the challenges we face--from funding, to getting appropriate attention for our ideas, to creating a more equitable ecosystem. I hope you enjoy. #UppityWomenUnite

Kamille is the 9-year-old author of I Am Not, an anti-bullying book. Pyramid Books/Hearne Fine Arts hosted AETN for their program, "Gobbledybook." Kamille read her book, and Sela read, "Let the Children March," by Monica Clark-Robinson. Monica is the person you will hear introducing Kamille and Sela and telling us a little about why she wrote her book for children. It's a little hard to hear the readings, so you'll just have to buy their books! We included a couple of links below so you can see Kamille and Sela on video. Enjoy!

Dr. Julie Trivitt, Professor of Economics at UA Jul 08, 2019
    Show notes

Dr. Trivitt and I had a not-long-enough talk about some of my economics questions. I try to understand the different systems and ways in which economic policy differs, and how it affects most of us. I still don't really understand, but not because of this professor! I'd love to hear your questions and ideas based on this episode. Send them to me! In the meantime, enjoy this conversation.

    Music: As Promised, Daryl Shawn

How economists think about the economy:

1-What are we going to produce?

    2-Who gets what's produced?

3-How are we going to produce them?

4-How does the system incorporate changes into the system?

5-How do we promote growth and progress?

    Also...

1-Who owns the resources? The private sector or the government?

2-Who decides how the resources are used? Private allocation or government?
