Zero-Proof, All Passion: The Power of Yes! Happy 10 Years to Yes! Cocktail Co. | Pet of the Week with Woods Sep 26, 2025

Show notes

What happens when two theater kids say "yes" to flavor, passion, and building a cocktail empire from the ground up?

In this episode, Adam welcomes Lauren Butler into the Timbre LoBro Studios, the co-founder of Yes Cocktail Co., as she pours out the story behind one of Paso Robles' most exciting and nationally celebrated brands. From their early days slinging small-batch syrups at Farmers’ Market to landing features in Oprah Daily, USA Today, and the Good Food Awards, Lauren and her husband Brandon have turned their love of mixology into a movement. This is a great local story about a great local business.

Now celebrating their 10th anniversary, Yes Cocktail Co. is inviting fans to join them for a special mixology class and celebration on Saturday, October 4th at their Paso tasting room, complete with exclusive cocktails, zero-proof mocktails, bites, stories, and a whole lot of YES energy.

Plus, we dive into motherhood, small business ownership, the art of showing up every damn day, and the future of alcohol-free spirits on the Central Coast.

Princesses, Frogs, and Fresh Princes: The Stories of Screenwriting Icon Rob Edwards & Him Coming to SLO CAL Sep 24, 2025

Show notes

What do Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, and TV classics like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In Living Color, Full House, and A Different World all have in common? Writer Rob Edwards. For more than 40 years, Rob has been shaping the way we laugh, cry, and see ourselves on screen. In this episode of Up+Adam, Adam Montiel sits down with Rob to talk about surviving Hollywood with “Detroit hustle,” why Disney and Marvel story rooms are more alike than you’d think, and what it means to close out this year’s Central Coast Writers Conference with what he calls “a full tank of chicken soup for the writer’s soul.”

Don’t miss the special screening of The Princess and the Frog + Live Q&A with Rob Edwards, happening tomorrow, September 25th, at the Palm Theatre in San Luis Obispo. The evening begins with a 5pm reception, the family-friendly screening at 6pm, followed by a conversation with Rob himself. Tickets are just $10–$12.

Disney Adults & Dirty Truths with Comic René Vaca who's Coming to the PAC in SLO! Sep 22, 2025

Show notes

Comic René Vaca Is Up+Adam

Comedian René Vaca joins Adam Montiel ahead of his upcoming show at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, September 25. From growing up in Van Nuys to winning StandUp NBC and performing with the likes of Bill Burr and Ken Jeong, René shares how comedy became his therapy, his hustle, and his way through it all.

In this candid conversation, the two talk about growing up just outside of LA, collecting rare Disney art, calling out Hollywood in a meeting that actually led to traction, and what it’s like to jump into stand-up the same way Adam Lockwood jumps off the Eiffel Tower. No net. Just guts.

Note: This was a virtual interview, and the last few minutes were lost due to a cloud upload glitch after René exited the call. But what we did capture is absolutely worth the listen.

Shame, Screenshots, and Justice: Inside the Mind of Bully Hunter Dr. James McGibney Sep 17, 2025

Show notes

In this episode of Up+Adam, Adam chats with Dr. James McGibney, the former U.S. Marine turned digital justice warrior, to talk about what it takes to take down cyberbullies, online predators, and the shadow networks that traffic in shame.

You’ve seen him in the Netflix doc The Most Hated Man on the Internet. You’ve seen his work on VICE, Dr. Phil, and now on A&E’s brand-new special Bully Hunter, premiering Tuesday, September 23rd at 10pm. But this conversation isn’t just about the mission. It’s about the man behind it. From the day he tricked Hunter Moore into handing over a revenge porn empire, to the stories of survivors that still haunt him, McGibney opens up about the emotional toll, the wins no one sees, and what it really means to reclaim power online.

Whether you’re a parent, a victim, or just someone who wants to believe in digital justice, this one is required listening.

Local #TrueCrimeTuesday: When the System Fails, Parents Don’t Quit Sep 16, 2025

Show notes

On this episode of Up+Adam, broadcaster Adam Montiel sits down with William and Mary Jane Jodry, the parents of Thomas “Tommy” Jodry, a 21-year-old man who died after falling from a San Luis Obispo parking structure under deeply suspicious circumstances. While officials quickly closed the case, the Jodrys have spent nearly six years piecing together what really happened that night, facing roadblocks, redacted timelines, and a man of interest whose presence raises more questions than answers.

Also joining the conversation is clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. Leslie Dobson, whose trauma-informed lens brings clarity and conviction to the emotional fog surrounding this story. First, we listen in on a powerful one-on-one between Dr. Dobson and the Jodrys, an excerpt from a longer conversation featured on her podcast, Intentionally Disturbing. Then, Adam steps in to ask what’s next — legally, emotionally, and publicly.

These Fists Break Stereotypes: How Martial Arts Films Changed Pop Culture, Hip Hip, Film, and Who Kids Saw as Heroes Sep 15, 2025

Show notes

What do Bruce Lee, Saturday morning cartoons, bootleg VHS tapes, and the birth of hip hop all have in common?

Today on Up+Adam, we go full roundhouse into the cultural explosion that was the kung fu movie craze, and the two men who’ve written the definitive, illustrated, and absolutely jaw-dropping story behind it. Adam is joined by Grady Hendrix, bestselling author and co-founder of the New York Asian Film Festival, and Chris Poggiali, film historian and editor of the legendary Temple of Schlock, to talk about their new book: These Fists Break Bricks.

From CIA-funded karate flicks to 10th-grade Black belts starring in Hong Kong films, from Enter the Dragon to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this convo is equal parts history lesson and nostalgic joyride. Even if martial arts movies weren’t your thing growing up, trust us, this one will hit you somewhere surprising. We talk pop culture, identity, myth-making, and the hidden heroes who helped build an entire genre, one flying kick at a time.
