She’s Got Mash Appeal: Celebrity Chef Poppy O’Toole’s Rise to Potato Queen Apr 24, 2025

Show notes

In this episode of Up+Adam, Adam Montiel sits down with Poppy O’Toole, the Michelin-trained chef turned viral TikTok powerhouse behind Poppy Cooks. After losing her job during the pandemic, Poppy leaned into comfort, creativity, and carbs - and in doing so, built a global following obsessed with her signature style of accessible, personality-packed cooking. Known lovingly as “the High Priestess of the Potato,” she’s got over 4.4 million TikTok followers, 1.1 million on Instagram, and a growing catalog of craveable cookbooks that are as cozy as they are clever.

We dig into her brand-new book, Poppy Cooks: The Potato Book, which is nothing short of a starchy, salty, butter-laced bible for spud lovers everywhere. From viral 15-hour potatoes to nostalgic childhood favorites like potato smiles, Poppy’s recipes blend skill and soul in a way that makes everyone feel like a chef. She shares stories of kitchen burnout, starting over, and how the internet gave her a second shot. Whether you love food, stories of reinvention, or just want a hot tip for the crispiest roasties ever, this one’s for you.

Are Highways Racist? Yep, We're Going There. Asking Tough Questions to ACLU President Deborah Archer Apr 23, 2025

Show notes

In this episode of Up+Adam, Adam sits down with ACLU president and NYU law professor Deborah Archer, who makes a bold claim in her new book Dividing Lines: America’s transportation system hasn’t just failed us—it was designed to divide us.

This conversation doesn’t shy away from the big questions: In a time where everything is being called racist, is labeling roads helpful, or harmful? Do you think there’s a point where everything being framed as racial ends up diluting the very meaning of racism? At what point does a road… just become a road again? Has the ACLU stayed true to its mission of defending all Americans’ rights, even the unpopular ones? It’s a thoughtful, provocative exchange, and a must-listen for anyone trying to understand if inequality is paved in plain sight.

In this first of a special two-part interview, Adam sits down in the Timbre LoBro Studios with Dave for an honest, revealing, and often hilarious conversation about why now was the time to step away, how he’s planning his next chapter, and why connection — not forecast accuracy — might be the true legacy he’s leaving behind. From early days covering explosions in North Dakota to calling shots during the Thomas Fire and Montecito mudslide, Dave shares the heart behind the high-pressure job — and why he’s actually more connected to this community than ever.

…Part Two drops Monday.
