    Show notes

Nicole Auerbach is joined by The Athletic's Chris Vannini to discuss the timeline of name, image & likeness laws. A few states are prepared to move forward to allow athletes to make money in 2021 but federal legislation is lagging. Meanwhile, the NCAA is just sitting on the sideline with basically no decision making power. What happens next? Last call!

State of the Program: Georgia w/ Seth Emerson May 10, 2021
    Show notes

Join The Atheltic for just $3.99 a month! Visit: theathletic.com/andystaples

Andy and Georgia Bulldogs scribe for The Athletic Seth Emerson discuss the state of affairs in Athens. Georgia's win-loss record since the beginning of Kirby Smart's tenure is among one of the best in college football, so why aren't the Bulldogs top dog yet? Had Jamie Newman officially taken the reigns at UGA would they have earned a berth to Atlanta? 'Why did Smart choose that QB to start over the actually good one' epitomizes his run as Georgia's head honcho. Does Georgia face a fatal flaw yearly? What is it this season, and what has it been in years past? Plus, the guys look at Georgia's schedule, including their season-opener against Clemson, discuss their abundance of talent, and assuage fans' concern (or hope) of Kirby Smart being fired.

Who are new names to know? What's the perception of Mark Dantonio nowadays in East Lansing, and did anyone use the transfer portal more effectively and successfully than the Spartans?

Power Auer: The CFB offseason feels normal again May 04, 2021
    Show notes

The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach & Stadium's Michael Felder discuss how great it was to have spring football back in full swing & the sense of normalcy it brought back to the sport that went a full year without it. Plus, Nicole has the latest on CFP expansion discussions. Is expansion ultimately about access or about creating a better TV product? Felder makes a case that in order to make the sport more competitive it's up to programs like USC to step its game up on the recruiting trail. Last call!

How the NFL Draft influences recruiting & the future of college football programs May 03, 2021
    Show notes

Join The Athletic for just $3.99 a month! Visit: theathletic.com/andystaples

Andy and Ari delve into how the NFL Draft affects college football recruiting and the college football landscape as a whole. In the future, how can the BIg 12 make good on first-round draftees, which it failed to produce this year? What can Steve Sarkisian do to elevate products coming out of Texas and into the draft? Alabama and Ohio State, though neck-and-neck in recruiting talent, have an obvious chasm between them, why is that? Is Nick Saban "ruining" college football by being as successful as he's been?

NFL Draft Preview w/ Bruce Feldman Apr 28, 2021
    Show notes

It's. Nearly. Here. The NFL Draft is less than 48-hours away, presenting a perfect opportunity for Andy and Bruce Feldman to navigate the event's biggest headlines ahead of Thursday. Who does Bruce believe San Francisco is going to select at number three overall? Is Mac Jones the guy, or could North Dakota State's Trey Lance be headed West? Lance is a few doughnuts shy of a baker's dozen of high-level competition pastries; however, there's a certain quarterback in Buffalo with a similar background that's doing OK for himself. If Bruce were shepherding the 49ers, who would he pick? The guys discuss Atlanta's and Cincinnati's situations. Also, who could tumble in the draft; where could guys with question marks, such as Landon Dickerson, TuTu Atwell and Sam Ehlinger, go?
